This used to be called "taking a spree" & folk songs depict it as a semi-normal part of childhood that would be a natural way of releasing emotions if things got worked up at home. During a spree, a lot of learning & personal development occurs in a short space of time.
When my niece was 5, she got mad at her grandma and said she was going to run away. Grandma said all right, but you can't leave the yard. Niece "ran away" , but didn't leave the yard. She kept walking back and forth on the curb in front of the house, stopping every so often to glare at the house. It went on for about 20 minutes until i called out to her to see if she wanted to help me make cookies
My 5-year-old niece ran away a few months ago when she was still 4, only she actually did leave the yard and walked down the street. But her mother followed closely behind her in her truck while recording. 😂 You just see this little kid with a backpack walking down the street with a big arse black truck following right behind her. It was hilarious. She came back eventually and my sister never let her out of her sights. My sister said the neighbors probably thought they were weird. 🤣 She leaves on a very quiet street.

Bruh, I remember once I ran away from home, and I lived in a smol wholesome farming town, and I walked almost 3km relentlessly until a concerned drunk guy picked me up and took me to my uncle's, which was walking distance from my house. When I arrived, they looked at me with a combination of dagger eyes and the look the disciples gave Jesus after his resurrection.
My niece once told me she was gonna run away from home. Told her to let me know when. Why? she asked. “So I can give you a hug and say goodbye” I said. She never mentioned it again.
