I hadn't thought about big tech and personal privacy until you gave that analogy. I don't use apps like tiktok for that reason, but they must still get plenty off me!
Evening, YT is the only social platform i use, there is more to life than these awful application that seem to dominate the lives of so many people. I will stick to enjoying my bikes 🏍 😎 😄
@blearyview2254 I use Facebook as well, as it keeps me in touch with a lot of friends around the world. And WhatsApp is convenient for group messages etc.
Good luck with your computer issues. Hopefully you will create a method which you are happy with👍 I'm sure I've said before how I appreciate the time and effort you put into your channel, thanks again👍
Hi Paul, it all part of the fun and will find an alternative video editing programme, I just need to go through the learning curve. It good to hear you enjoy the stuff I stick out.
Nice to see the Royal enfield back out for a ride. Will have to get one of my old Laptops to install Linux and see how I get on with it. And would certainly like to see how you achieved this, and Dual boot would be very convenient. I have all the computers you mentioned, but my Commodore PET 8096 is still my favourite, although havent used it for years. Cheers
I do not use the RE enough for sure. No need to pull out laptop, install on a USB stick and boot from that on main PC. However, if you end up wanting to fully install then do not under any circumstances install on the same drive, you could end up corrupting the Windows install. I will do a quick video.
@@blearyview2254 . Yes,I like Linux Mint too. I think that I chose openSUSE, chiefly because I like the KDE desktop environment and I got used to it . Its great to see more people using Linux .
Hello Alex. This is all a bit beyond me but I'm sure that today with all this social media stuff - and we're using it with UA-cam aren't we, our privacy is seriously eroded. But UA-cam is as far as I'm prepared to go down that road. I use Ecosia as a search engine /browser as that helps plant trees too which is one of your Bertie Bonuses 😂. Keep safe. Peter
Evening Peter, YT is the only social platform I use, the stuff I am complaining about is a lower level and just far too intrusive. I try everything to minimise what they get but it almost impossible to stop them. Back to a tour video next.
Im afraid Alex none of us have much private anymore. I was talking to a mate face to face, and when I got home up popped an advert about the thing we were talking about, and both our phones were switched off!!!! Im a mac man always have been, so can't comment on the new system you have. Anyway stay safe mate
Evening Dave, they are all at it and it a blinking disgrace that they think they can listen to your chat. It is one of the reasons I use Graphene OS on my phone, none of that nonsense but my with has an iPhone so they get us that way.
900GB's!😱 Agree, them buggers should keep their beaks out of our private stuff. Ahhh, the old Spectrum, I remember it well, still it did a job way back then. Would be good to see the Linux software and how it looks Al, never seen it or used it.
Morning Nige, I will pull something together and share. I use the Linux PC for the livestream and works perfectly. I just need to see if I can find a video editing programme that is easy to use as PD.
Hi Alex. You lost this old fella right at the start .😂.I just about manage.to turn this new dell computer on .younger family are great .daughter set this thing up. I mentioned utube going pear-shaped to you before. Now I refresh my watched subscription every time. Still lost some good utube videos..looking forward to the videos of your Europe trips ..take care mate ..the old fella
HI Dave, computers can be a nightmare for sure. I been involved with them one way or another since the 80s so it easy. Yeah YT don't make life easy for sure. Take Dave, Alex.
I don't know much about operating systems and have always used windows. The latest computer i have is only a couple years old and came with windows 10 pro. After a couple weeks it upgraded itself to 11, which I didn't want, but it seems good so far. 😊
Windows 11 works just fine but it the telemetry enabled that sucks all your information out that does my head in. Recall is a new feature that is causing huge controversy and is another reason why I am doing this stuff. However, for non tech/average user, they will be totally unaware of what is going on.
Spectrum then Atari ST for me Alex, before moving to PCs to make a living out of them. I started using Linux on servers about 15 years ago when I got into developing cloud based software. At that time the GUIs were pretty clunky and there's no way I would have used them for day to day stuff. I'm sure they've improved now but the biggest problem for me in switching over would be having to get different video, audio and productivity software, then spending more time learning to use it. I need to upgrade our web server to the latest ubuntu version soon so I'll be doing a test install on a local server first, I might take a look at the client side while I'm at it. I'd certainly be interested to know what software you are using. Cheers, Mick
Hi Mick, Linux on the client side has come a long way although I am still very much using the PC for editing. There are a few editing programmes, the most notable being DaVinci Resolve but that one has a steep learning curve and will share the application info when I do a video on it. I have used Ubuntu before but that was a few years ago, I do like the Mint desktop, very Windows desk.
Ah the old YT NoGorithim, it's a blinder isn't it, quite literally 🙄🤔😎 it certainly not designed to work in our favours. Yet if you wear a skirt and ride a bike ( not while wearing the skirt, although I could see how that would attract views) the old male hormones make that NoGorithim reverse its polarity and go into overdrive. The number of regular commenters on my videos goes down with each one, yet I know these people will be commenting. As for spying you'll never beat it, your every move is known to someone, big brother is truly watching us.
Evening Michael, I must try the skirt thing 😀 The privacy thing is greatly improved with Linux, there ain"t ant telemetry, but it gets harder. How's the concrete twork going?
@@blearyview2254 Hi Alex, As you pointed out you've gained back some privacy in one area but lack of it is still an issue everywhere else. If you connect your phone to your car or your bike you loose it big style. The Concrete base is now screeded with a cement layer, which I did half and half over two days. If I'd only made a frame rather than use that gravel grid, I could have got a level slab rather than uneven pockets. I spent half a day searching for cement tools as I couldn't find mine and some stores don't carry the stock shown online. Now it's raining and the cover I put over became partially uncovered during the night exposing newly laid cement from yesterday. Still I should now have a fairly smooth level base to build the shed's plastic base onto and high enough to avoid the surface water on the lawn. The shed itself will take the best part of a day to put together, then I need to lay slabs leading to it.

Well done. A wise move.Lack of privacy is horrible.Speaking as an openSUSE linux user.
Morning, the Linux OS user base is growing and must say Mint is very akin to using Windows. I am very happy so far.
