This absolutely breaks my heart and I am sobbing. About five years ago, I had a tiny, 6-year-old, neutered, hairless Chinese Crested. I live on a farm. One day, I noticed he was limping on his right front leg. I checked him over and found nothing. They are fragile, fine-boned little dogs, so I thought he had over-exerted himself. A few hours later, his front leg was completely stiff, so I placed him on a soft blanket in his carry kennel. I kept checking on him every hour, only thinking he had sprained or strained a muscle, running around playing in the yard and needed to rest his leg. By 2 am, he was stiff. I rushed him to the vet and he told me it was tetanus. I knew about tetanus in cows and horses but had NEVER heard of it in a dog. The vet told me it was very rare in dogs. I told the vet to put him down. I was NEVER told this could be treated! And, until I watched this video, I never knew it COULD be treated. I'm an RN, and relief supervisor at a large hospital...I certainly could have given him the BEST care. I'm so heartbroken and angry right now. 😭
So sorry for your loss! It can absolutely be treated, but it's costly and may not always have a good outcome. Tech was a lucky one, and we had a really good head vet who gave her a chance for free of charge.
My dog just passed away on new years eve from fighting tetanus. Take solice in knowing you did the most humane thing. My poor girl suffered during treatment as the toxins hijacked her muscles and caused spasms so strong the meds were not enough and the final spasm gave her a heart attack and she died in my arms while in pain. I'm haunted everyday by her pain.
I'm so sorry for your loss! :( How old was your dog? I lost my dog 10 days ago, he had tetanus too. They did everything they could, but the vet couldn't save him. He was an old dog, his chances of surviving were minimal.
Great work! My boyfriend and I have a dog who survived a bout with tetanus at three months old. The treatment was very similar to what the video depicts. The staff at the vet was wonderful and we were able to administer a lot of the treatment at home. We still have the dog who is now eight years old😍.
Please help, my dog has tetanus now and currently she is at the vet but we are supposed to be picking her up later today. Can you explain what at home treatments you did please? I’m so happy to hear your dog recovered and it gives me hope!
Forlong Mariapaz my dog sadly passed away, I live in a small town though with an extremely inexperienced vet. I believe if they would have done what the people in the video were doing then she would have lived. I hope your dog gets well though! If your vet doesn’t know what to do I highly suggest making them watch this video. Lots of IV fluids and even tube feeding if you must. Let me know how everything goes please 💕💕
Angelique Davis thank you answering she is being treated right now and I hope she can make it though... if you don’t mind me asking how old was she and how far along was the disease ? Also did she get any treatment ? Mine got the fluids antibiotics and antitoxins. Praying for her! Thank you for answering !
Forlong Mariapaz I don’t mind, she was almost 3 and we caught it early, she was still able to bend her legs. But sadly the disease had attacked her respiratory system first, so there wasn’t much we could do. And yeah we took her to the vet and they hooked her up to fluids and she passed in the night. But this vet didn’t massage her or anything so she didn’t get the treatment she deserved. I really hope your girl is okay and that she heals, that would make me very happy!
I am right now treating my 7 yr old pit for Tetanus,it started as a infection in his toe no puncture wounds just swelling and redness so vet first treated it with a normal antibiotic for skin infections so after 10 days of medication some swelling gone and able to walk on it but we took him back they did bloodwork and urinalysis and X-ray everything came back good so on that second visit we suggested Tetanus because of his facial features and VET said she never had seen it in dogs and I even showed her a video of a dog from UA-cam with it and she still said no just give him another round of antibiotics so the next day they called and said his X-rays are good nothing broken so call ended and I went to give Duke his treat’s with medication and normally he can catch every treat I toss to but this day he couldn’t so then I noticed that when treats landed under his nose I noticed he couldn’t locate it by smell either so his eyes was messed up and his senses of smell so I called VET right away and she then said take him to ER WELLi did after 7 hours in hospital finally was seen and they had to call other Vets in area that worked with cattle, livestock and they confirmed my dog has Tetanus so they kept him overnight gave him antitoxin by IV and antibiotics (Metronidazole) 500 mgs so he has been on this for a week his toe is still swollen and pinkish red and now he has a stiffness in his one back leg so I have a appointment today at 3 pm with a VET that has treated dogs with TETNAUS so wish us a good recovery DUKE is like a family member FB for him is Duke Sicurella I have pictures of him and his progress, thanks for Video

Hi, I’m just wondering did you give any medication to the puppy? We don’t have vets in our country at all. Is there any home remedy?

Did your dog recover?
I didn't see the list of medication that was given?"
in the gray photo, her head is looking up. i've looked up what tetanus does and guess what, Emma Elizabeth?
They give dogs Metronidazole for antibiotics along with TETNAUS antitoxin along with muscle relaxants
Please write if the puppy has recovered, I now have an 8-month-old puppy who got tetanus. He has stiff hind legs all the time.
