Chad Noba As a Swede myself I enjoy it, but would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't so expensive. Seriously, cafes make something like 300% profit on every product they sell from what I heard.
megaelliott Acually average. EVERY café I've ever been to is this expensive. Also, I've had some inside information from a buddy who used to work at a café xD
Did they ever visit Visby in Gotland? That town is beautiful! The movie Kiki's Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便) by Studio Ghibli took inspiration from that town.
My birthplace. ❤ I long to return there. I've lived in Stockholm for 20+ years. The beauty of Gotland becomes more and more apparent by each passing day living in the big city. I spend every vaccation in Gotland. Re-charging my batteries. 😊
Sweden is truly wonderful.A person is really kind and The town is clean, too. I went to the same place twice, but want to go there once again.I thought Sweden is far from Japan, but is worth going
the funny thing about the weather during winter is that it was actually unusually warm and way less snow than usual this year. normally it's a lot colder and a lot more snow but this year was just completely different. for example: 2-3 years ago there was literally snow from the end of october to the end of april, without it melting away a single time
marcuslola You are saying that like it's a common occurance, which it isn't. One certainly remembers the really bad wait times when it happens though, compared to all the other times the trains are on time.
marcuslola It's because of the freezing cold and bad weather that the train is late. Not much to do about that than to accept the fact that Swedish weather sucks
Well now days it actually is very common occurrence. At least in the Stockholm area especially in winter time. Maybe local transportation works better where you live? Maybe you commit by car or bicycle? When I grew up trains were usually on time.
In the lower part of Sweden the trains are never more than a few minutes late and same with the busses, so it is definitely not a problem for all of Sweden.
This is really interesting, extra interesting since I am Swedish, live in north of sweden and I am moving to Tokyo in January for 4 years of studies. :)
I interviewed my Japanese friends to find out their thoughts on Sweden. They discuss the positve and negative things about the country, and give advice for other Japanese people who would like to visit Sweden. Thank you to my friends for taking part. Thank you Shiori and Iori for translating the video for the subtitles.
Chad Noba Maybe you should think about optional english subtitles for the hearing impaired. Besides, they are not native english speakers so they are not easily understood by all viewers
Chad Noba These videos are really interesting. I wish I could meet these people, since I'm not studying I'm not really in contact with all the amazing foreign students in my city. I love experiencing different cultures.
It is very interesting to see the girl from Osaka speak. One of my Japanese friends said that people from Osaka can be considered obnoxious, because they speak over other people sometimes. To us, that is considered an interruption, but not a serious one. So I think that people from Osaka might have an easier time adapting to European/American culture.
I hope my fellow Swedes are generally treating visitors well so more can come to enjoy our culture and join us for a bit of fika. I would love it to see someone who grew up in a very different culture genuinely enjoy for example a classic Swedish midsummer celebration and/or just some crispbread. : )
hej are you from Sweden? I am doing a school's project about the tourism in Japan/Fukushima from the perspective of Swedish people, can I ask you some questions? We will be forever thankful for your answers. Tack sa mycket!
Really interesting video! このビデオめちゃおもしろくて、よさそうな人だね。It's very nice to hear your thoughts on Sweden from you guys since I was studying Japanese at uni 2 years ago. Best time of my life! How you described Swedish trains being late made me laugh a lot because I feel the same way about our trains, haha. I've been thinking to myself that they should visit Japan to learn how they do it over there. スウェーデンで楽しんでください x)
Hej! This video was soo fun and interesting! Please check if you could do another one and see if their opinions have changed, what they think of our culture and traditions, clubbing and our FOOD! I love to hear them say what they think about it, for example salty liquorice, filmjölk, fika, kaviar, spices and whatmore :D also the girl in the pink t-shirt holding the pillow is super cute! :) Hope you all are having a great time in Sweden!
I think most people here in Sweden think highly of japanese people, there are very few things that we tend to dislike, if even anything. Also japanese people doesn't take up a lot of space so to say, if you compare it to some other cultures where 10 people takes just as much "social space" as a 100 swedes or japans. Despite the great cultural difference, I think most people from Japan will get along here very easily compared to people from other countries.
Really cool video, I'm currently studying the Japanese language by myself (not through school), and I would really love to meet Japanese people, they seem really awesome ^^
Well that turned dark really quick, and not everyone gets depressed during the winter its very easily debunk-able i think the reason you feel that way is because you haven't stored enough Vitamin D from the sun so you get tired more easily and don't feel like you need to do anything going by your profile picture you either have 10 layers of makeup or you haven't seen the sun in 10 years either way go get some sun before the winter arrives or you need Vitamin D pills its important to get the sun shining on you sometimes
Love to hear that other people hate our public transport system as much as we swedes do ourselves. Goddamnit why won't our government spend even the tiniest morsel of their budget on improving public transport..
Arthion I don't think the goverment can do much about that since Swedish weather plays a big part in it. Unless God is part of the government i doubt anything will change
The weather isn't a problem if one prepares for it, however our transport system seems to be in chock every time a few centimetres or more of snow show up during the winter as if they've never ever seen snow before.
Arthion You can't really prepare for frozen train tracks since it's not much you can do about it, and trust me you do not wanna sit on a train that drives on frozen train tracks
Well no if it happens it happens, then you just gotta be ready to solve the issue, which quite frankly they never do resulting in X hours of delayed departures.
As a Swedish person living abroad (Prague, in my case) I find this extremely interesting (might also be because I am infatuated with the Japanese culture). So thanks for sharing these videos, it is always good to have the input from someone else. Although I disagree on us being kind and friendly, but that might just be my own bias assumption :P
hej, I am doing a school's project about the tourism in Japan/Fukushima from the perspective of Swedish people, can I ask you some questions? We will be forever thankful for your answers. Tack sa mycket!
Oh how envious I am of you, I've never ever met a Japanese person in real life even though I am in love with the language, the culture and the image I have in my head of how the country is. I'm even trying to learn Japanese, but it's so difficult without someone to talk to. By the way, I saw your fika video and I have to ask, are you Scottish? The accent really reminded me of the singer from Belle and Sebastian. :)

It is interesting that Hiori (?), the guy on the far right, seems to have had his English accent heavily influenced by people in Sweden. The others, particularly the girl from Osaka, have a much stronger American accent.
It is possible, I suppose, but he also has a bit of the "L" and "R" inversion that is common with Japanese speakers. It is not criticism. He has a really interesting accent no matter where he hails from.
Just a question, why does the guy in blue sweater have such a strange accent compared to the others? Is it because he is from a different region than the others? (it sounds like when someone make a stereotypical Asian accent xd)
***** 90% of the swedish population is fluent in English. Stockholm is the capital and thus is the center of travel and business, that is probably the place where people speak the best english in the entire country. The north is still very swedish...meaning they dont have as much influence from other nations as the Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg. Not saying you are wrong, It just not that likely that the north would be more apt at speaking English. (unless we are talking about Umeå) Also, I dont think it was that he was a slow learner, his vocabulary etc was very good, maybe even the best of the group. They all had accents but he has a completely different accent.
Watched this on a laptop in a room full of people... When they all giggled and yelled "Fika!" everyone turned and looked at me thinking they were saying "Fitta" which means "Cunt" in Swedish.
my girlfriend is gonna live with me in gothenburg for a while next year.... I'm wondering if there are any Japanese communities or groups when she's like homesick? thanks
Fika is basically a break that involves drinking coffee, tea, or chocolate, and a light dessert treat usually cinnamon buns. It's also a big social thing where you sit down and talk
In my city we have some japanese things like japanese statues sakura tree’s and other stuffs. Japan är bäst Det är roligt ni gillar några saker här i Sverige 🇸🇪 och föresten jag bor i staden uddevalla. = Japan is best its fun you guys like things here in suu-Eden and by the way i live in the city uddevalla 🇯🇵👍
This was very nice and informative, but this is just my opinion :) I found the girl in the pink shirt a little too hyper haha just my view you guys. But I honestly do value their points, because afterall It really is true:)
Forget the japanese subtitles, you need to put english subtitles on this. They keep interupting the one who's talking or just laughing, can't hear half of what they're saying. I knew they would complain about our public transport, our trains are infamous with being late or never showing up >.
I find it interesting that they pronounce some Swedish words better then the Americans... Perhaps it is more "easy on the tongue" for Japanese speakers then it is for (American) English speakers...
***** Probably has to do with the amount of time they've spent in Sweden. Most of them had been there half a year, so they've had alot of time to hear and pronounce the swedish words
FlashySenap it's not rampant like some people say. But it is definately a thing. Usually when you ask a Girl/boy out, you suggest to go for a fika. It's a good way to hold a relaxed concersation and get to spend time with people without any great effort.
FlashySenap yes i em from Sweden and we Love fika, going ro school/work take a fika during work or after. Go home, fix a car with a friend take a fika and truck driver leaves somthing you ordered offer fika. This is a bit over the top but we always take a fika at work.
Since I am born and raised in sweden I should have noticed this, however it seems that I've missed it completely... Then again I'm more like "lets drink coffee at home, it's cheaper" so it might just been me and my friends. Occasional fika I've had but it has not really been a thing, more of an exception.
2:28 That's not true, you can buy alcohol but you can't buy booze at the supermarket. They do sell "folköl" or people's beer in English. That's pretty tame compared to the strong zero that Japanese are used to, only being a bit over 2% alcohol. If you want anything that's over 3%, you need to go to the government booze shop to buy it. So stuff like whiskey and vodka aren't sold there cause they have too high alcohol content, we call those kinds of liquors "sprit". 6:22 Allot of us Swedes grew up with loads of English cartoons on the TV, my dad had cable tv from the states before Cartoon Network in Sweden was a thing. That helped me develop my English, that and I had English speaking parents. It's also quite a generational thing in Sweden, the government added English as a required subject back in the early 60's, you can't even get into "gymnasiet" or what Americans would call upper high school without OK grades in English.
If I had to guess then they would probably like Scandinavia seeing as Sweden is part of Scandinavia. However, I imagine most of them highly dislike Denmark.
I'm Swedish, been to Japan, in the city and the country site. And I have to admit that Japan has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more green nature and more beautiful landscape than what we have here in Sweden. Oh and I don't think they went hard enought about the transportation, like compared to Japan, specifficaly Tokyo, sweden cannot be compared with the pulic transportation. Like it literally is sooooo much better in Japan. And here in Sweden the fucking bus is always late, I hate it but in Japan, like it was LITERALLY EVERY TIME on time, on the fucking second. Every time. Like, I don't know if Japanese pulic transporters get fired as fast as they get 1 minute late with their train or bus? I dunno but whatever they are doing and I suspect that they are not lazy in Japan, they work much harder and here in Sweden we are a lazy bunch who only complains. Like no joke on that part.
But I reckon it's unfair to compare any country (except maybe Germany) to Japan when it comes to transport and certain other things. Some things in Japan aren't the best or at least function differently to the rest of the world. IDK, just my opinion.
Haha spot on! the train schedule in Skane drives me craziiiieeeeeeee By the way, I am doing a school's project about the tourism in Japan/Fukushima from the perspective of Swedish people, can I ask you some questions? We will be forever thankful for your answers. Tack sa mycket!

Skriv gärna! _________________________ Where can you meet Japanese people? It doesn't seem like there are any Japanese at all in Sweden. Going on a language trip and would like to practice Japanese speaking with a Japanese person !! Please write!
Osaka sun is too strong! I love how they say the train being late is not normal! In Tokyo, the trains are late so much. That is why I still love Osaka most.
I thought that the Japanese had snuff in Japan. I mean people in other countries dont they ever go to the 7 Eleven and purchase cinnamon rolls or cupcakes or go to a cafe and have their own version of fika ?
Christopher Reyes Swedish snus is a bit different from the well known snuff since it's not as moist and often a bit stronger in nicotine. Also here, it's a whole culture around it, and not like "all the hillbillies" but where I live in Sweden it's actually a lot more common than smoking. And again with the fika, its actually not about having a cinnamon bun. It's the culture around it. A fika is actually just having a coffee or tee and maybe something to eat with it, it can be a fruit, baked goods or even just a sandwich. But it's like sacred time for many swedes to just take a break from all the stress and just have a fika. It's also a big part of how we socialize. I guess that's why Starbucks is'nt on every street corner here cus you can't have a fika to go. or infront of a TV.
Well I work about 3-4 days /week. I would never waste my life by working more than that. Of course I do prioritize my expenses, but you have to remember, the more money you make, the more you will have to pay in taxes.. So it is optimal to work around 3-4 days per week.
-Fikaa! That's so weird... they do it in every country i know... having a coffee with a friend or such. I'd say that the extremely special "Fika" is a marketing trick from the tourist board...
Its funny how they all mention that October and November are the worst. Depression, boredom and more depression. They couldnt be more correct in this matter =D Also: SKÅNE!!! :D
Like the "Americans about Sweden", they speak of the short store hours and how there's no 24/7 stores. There are, really. I'm beggining to think it's just here in Northern Sweden we have 24/7 stores...
goldug Seriously? O.O I've lived in Sweden like 20-21 years of my life and I've never heard of it. 24/7 gas stations and McDonlands yeah, but nothing else.
R AK I walk around alone in the city late evening often and I've never felt scared or threatened in any way. Of course it depends on what city, but i believe it's realtively safe anywhere in Sweden
I love how everyone bring up "fika". Can't say I blame them though.
GunvorPlays It's something we all grew to love :)
Chad Noba As a Swede myself I enjoy it, but would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't so expensive. Seriously, cafes make something like 300% profit on every product they sell from what I heard.

The girl in pink is so cute, just saying. Okay Bye
Embla Tarras agree cute girl
Where in Sweden do all of you live?
Did they say Växjö as one of the places they visit? :D
Cetrus We stayed in Växjö :)
This was very nice and informative, but this is just my opinion :) I found the girl in the pink shirt a little too hyper haha just my view you guys. But I honestly do value their points, because afterall It really is true:)
You can see those curtain patterns every here and there in Sweden X D
Is the girl in the pink shirt part American or something? Just something about her mannerisms and some of the words she uses.
みんなの英語が喋るのとてもいいですよ!
5 weeks? in norway we have 8
Their English is very good ^o^
Engruiss
Is Fika really a thing. I haven't noticed that it is that much of a thing, Or am I the weird one?
FlashySenap it's not rampant like some people say. But it is definately a thing. Usually when you ask a Girl/boy out, you suggest to go for a fika. It's a good way to hold a relaxed concersation and get to spend time with people without any great effort.
FlashySenap yes i em from Sweden and we Love fika, going ro school/work take a fika during work or after. Go home, fix a car with a friend take a fika and truck driver leaves somthing you ordered offer fika. This is a bit over the top but we always take a fika at work.
most workplaces have a "fikarum" which literally means fika room. where you fika and eat your lunch. its a big thing
Since I am born and raised in sweden I should have noticed this, however it seems that I've missed it completely... Then again I'm more like "lets drink coffee at home, it's cheaper" so it might just been me and my friends. Occasional fika I've had but it has not really been a thing, more of an exception.
thats quite funny. when i was in high school, all we did was fika. how old are you? i am also born and raised in sweden.
What a great group of people. (Especially red ^^)
What do Swedes think of Scandinavians?
Haha spot on! the train schedule in Skane drives me craziiiieeeeeeee
By the way, I am doing a school's project about the tourism in Japan/Fukushima from the perspective of Swedish people, can I ask you some questions? We will be forever thankful for your answers. Tack sa mycket!

Ska på språkresa och skulle vilja öva att prata Japanska med en Japansk person!!

Where can you meet Japanese people?
It doesn't seem like there are any Japanese at all in Sweden.
Going on a language trip and would like to practice Japanese speaking with a Japanese person !!
Please write!
Where's the eng sub !!!
i always crack up when i hear "fikka" in swedish since in german "ficker" means "fucker" xD
The guys seem prepared to go to sleep... Give'm a break.
Osaka sun is too strong! I love how they say the train being late is not normal! In Tokyo, the trains are late so much. That is why I still love Osaka most.
it's very rainy in stockholm...
Gothenburg: hold my beer
Don't know if this is already done, but you should do what Japanese people think of the Netherlands! :D
+Tamara Kwon But they don't live in the Netherlands....
Weird how out of 7 japanese ppl 7 are japanese, if you would have picked 7 swedes you would have 1 swede, 2 somali, 1 syrian, 1 asian, 2 other arabs
1m1337noSh1t Arabs are from asia.. so..
peronkop and this proves my point wrong how?
1m1337noSh1t No, i just wanted to ruin the joke.

interesting thing is blue shirt guy speaks english as swedish do. but others.. they have japanese accent :D
FIKA POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
English subs please. :(
I thought that the Japanese had snuff in Japan. I mean people in other countries dont they ever go to the 7 Eleven and purchase cinnamon rolls or cupcakes or go to a cafe and have their own version of fika ?
TitanGaming
Not snuff films Snuff as in sniffing tobbaco
Not funny
I guess that's why Starbucks is'nt on every street corner here cus you can't have a fika to go. or infront of a TV.
eeh what? that not true xD you work 5 days /week here. not 3 xD
Well I work about 3-4 days /week. I would never waste my life by working more than that. Of course I do prioritize my expenses, but you have to remember, the more money you make, the more you will have to pay in taxes.. So it is optimal to work around 3-4 days per week.
5 days / week is the norm.
8h / day
47 weeks / year
Yeah i never met anyone that doesn’t work 5 days/week
-Fikaa! That's so weird... they do it in every country i know... having a coffee with a friend or such. I'd say that the extremely special "Fika" is a marketing trick from the tourist board...
They are not Japanese but Korean.
山田大樹 ネトウヨいい加減に辞めような?日本の恥
In general, are Japanese women more extroverted than Japanese men?
I want to know those people they seem to fun ! ;_;
Its funny how they all mention that October and November are the worst. Depression, boredom and more depression. They couldnt be more correct in this matter =D
Also: SKÅNE!!! :D
How did you meet them?
william berkovits We live in the same building and became friends :)
Chad Noba Ok, nice.

Like the "Americans about Sweden", they speak of the short store hours and how there's no 24/7 stores. There are, really. I'm beggining to think it's just here in Northern Sweden we have 24/7 stores...
goldug There are 24/7 stores all over Sweden. You just have to find them ;)
goldug Seriously? O.O I've lived in Sweden like 20-21 years of my life and I've never heard of it. 24/7 gas stations and McDonlands yeah, but nothing else.
Love this movie....
I think Sweden's high level of happiness country. But Swedish security is good?
I heard that it became worse from accepting immigrants.
R AK Obviously depends on what areas you are in but generally its very safe
R AK Probaly still the safiest place to live. Dont live in the imigrant gettho..
R AK I walk around alone in the city late evening often and I've never felt scared or threatened in any way. Of course it depends on what city, but i believe it's realtively safe anywhere in Sweden
It's very safe. I live in a neighbourhood that consists of people from different backgrounds, and I've never felt threatened.
AFlashOfLight T That's good to hear. "Rape capital of Europe" isn't doing a good promotion, almost everybody picks up on that.
