    I just saw him play yesterday against Djokovic. What a player! It's a joy to watch him. He's got a beautiful style with his elegant backhand. I'm a fan.

    Reminds me of Gasquet when he was 18 to 20. Beautiful strokes and all court game from both of them. They both construct rallies and then finish with the clean winner.

    Totally agree with the title of this vdideo and it's sentiment. Lorenzo is an artist on the court..in the tradition of other great Italian players...e.g., Adriano Panatta.

    People also said this about Dimitrov at the outset of his career. Not to diss about Dimitrov's career and achievements per se, but we have to be exceedinlgy weary about fomenting such comparisons. That being said, I have always enjoyed Lorenzo's spectacular shotmaking abilities.

    No question Musetti has lovely fluid strokes and great touch, but he is missing the massive power that Federer had at the beginning of his career. Federer had everything Musetti has when he came onto the circuit, but his power--his accurate power--more than anything was the reason he became the dominant player. The tour hadn't really seen that type of power at that point. In every generation, a player comes up that sets the power bar above what it knew the previous generation. Think Connors, Lendl, and Sampras and how easily they ran through players in early rounds. Players couldn't handle that power because they hadn't seen it before. The problem with Musetti is he isn't all that powerful for his generation. That bar is being set by players like Alcaraz and Sinner. One way to notice this is by watching a Musetti match and observing who is doing the most running. Musetti is often on the run in his matches. And while he certainly is fast, he's not super fast like Alcaraz or Federer, for that matter. But before we write him off, let's see how Musetti develops. He's worth watching.

    • @inocss

      Interesting comment. With these current surfaces, it is easy for Musetti to have a difficult life compared to those who hit harder. But you can never say ...

    • @banburydrumtuition8651
      @banburydrumtuition8651 2 роки тому +3

      And yet he has got the upper hand of both Alkaraz and Sinner in huge matches. Mental strength was his weakness but that has improved a lot over the last 6 months, coming through in vital 'clutch' moments. No point comparing to Novak, Federer or Nadal either, as these three players are an anomaly, and there is no player in the modern game that can hold a touch to their genius, even when they're 10 to 15 years their junior.

    • @davidbreitkopf3603
      @davidbreitkopf3603 2 роки тому +3

      Interestingly, in the last few months I’ve noticed that Musetti has been pumping up his power. But perhaps more importantly is his decision to take more chances closer to the lines. Earlier in the year he was doing the bulk of the running. Now he’s made the decision to get his opponents running. That means he’ll be taking more chances, but he’ll probably have higher rewards, and a longer career.

      @@banburydrumtuition8651 I saw the highlights of Musetti beating Alcaraz this year (though Alcaraz beat Musetti in a challenger in 2020), but Musetti lost the only professional match he's played against Sinner in straight sets in 2021 in Antwerp.

    Although I like Musetti, I would never put him in the same conversation as Fed. Musetti's backhand is elegant but the rest of his game is coarse. And he struggles mightily to get power on his forehand. As a result, he can't win tournaments because he exerts some much effort to win points on his forehand. Technically, Fed is perfect. Everything he does looks effortless. No one past or present comes close to Fed. He's in a class all to himself.

    He needs to add a lot to his game to be mentioned with Sinner and Alcaraz. Entertaining to watch and I love his backhand, but not quite ready to consistently beat top competition regularly. Guy's only one game over 500 for the year (21-20 after the US Open), and has 11 first-round losses this year.

    sul rovescio nulla da dire, a rete siamo su quei livelli, sul tocco di palla anche, l'unico colpo migliorabile è il diritto fossi in lui inserirei un supercoach come ha fatto Sinner con Darren Cahill per lavorare sui punti deboli ossia il diritto. Il Servizio è già ottimo con una seconda di servizio che ricorda un pó il servizio in Kick di Edberg dei tempi, Comunque è giovane può solo migliorare.

    It’s as high an insult to Federer to have someone compare Musetti to him. Musetti is a solid player but he is not in the top tier and probably never will be. Mentally, he is not a very strong player. The so called elegance doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t have strong results.
