Thanks for the reminder about coffee grounds for nitrogen.🤦😁😃
💡
Egg shells also are really good nutrition
My Starbucks gives away 10 lbs bags of used coffee grounds FOR FREE!
Nice !
Great idea 💡👍🏾
Thanks for the info on the used coffee grounds and not watering the leaves!! First time trying to grow!!🎉😊
Awesome.. and your welcome... You got this ! Happy weekend gardening 🌱
This year will be my second attempt. The first year didn't do too well, the melons were pathetically small, maybe due to soil, so this year I'm experimenting with containers to better control soil consistency and nutrients.
@@Greentgardenmy water melon is dieing but I’ll try this
First time growing is it ok to put 2-3 seeds and how far apart should I space them?
Water the soil great tip bro
🙏🏾🌱 have a wonderful weekend 🌱
The thing is, some plants like dry periods in the soil while other plants love a lot of water.
Is that baby watermelon 🍉
Yes .. happy gardening 🌱
Watermelon is big plant?
Some watermelon plants could reach 10ft easily
How often do you need to add the boost of coffee grounds to the watermelon? Also, I use another all purpose fertilizer I mix in with the soil, is it necessary to use both the fertilizer and coffee grounds ?
So as soon as you see a sign of a watermelon I will normally add fertilizer every two weeks and I normally sprinkle used coffee ground once a week to give it a boost of extra nitrogen and it also keeps away certain types of bugs. I definitely recommend to sprinkle a little bit of coffee ground. It does work pretty good I notice
Thank you 😊
Welcome 🌱
I didn’t know that’s what coffee grinds do. Thanks for the tip.
Welcome 🌱
@@Greentgardeninstant coffee or crush beans
@matthewm7540 beans make sure they are used you want to leach out the caffeine and other things plants don't like
@@jgadventures4161can I use used tea grinds?
@b.williams7818 sure I believe how the coffee grinds work are worms eat them then digest same with tea leafs but might be a slightly different nutritional make up you can add nitrogen many ways so unless your a coffee drinker I wouldn't go out of my way to get grounds just for that purpose but it is nice to get a bonus use out of them if you do
I'm new to gardening and its amazing to see what you plant grow.
Awesome ! welcome... And thank you 🌱
Ditto! I am actually fixing to start growing watermelons, I have tomatoes, squash, cucumber's, sweet peas, onions, dill and mint to keep bugs away oh and sweet peas. Starting potatoes and green onions. I am praying this works because we are going to need it!! Looking into beds or stable Green Houses, I live in Florida so the weather can get crazy!!!
Thats why my watermelon plant dies randomly then when i drown it magically watch an ad to revive and it repeats it over and over again.
Thanks for the tip!
Sorry to hear that.. And you're welcome.. happy Friday gardening 🌱
When should u plant watermelon seeds?
You want to start from late spring to early summer ! I would recommend the late spring to start seed
Microscopic watermelon 😊
Also, if you cut off water supply before they get almost to maturity you will have much sweeter watermelon
Nice.. thank you for sharing this 🌱
How early should I cut off the water supply???
@@mercedesbenzs600bash once the watermelon gets about halfway done developing or 10 days before harvest.
@@Maya__v8 Much appreciated 🙏🏾
Is this true? Why would depriving it of water make it sweeter?
Can you grow 4 plants in one pot?
It all depends How big is your pot.. but four plants in one pot might be a lot
@@Greentgarden 5 Gallon.
Four plants will be too much .. for that ..
Don't water your leaves 😂😂 he must stand over them during the rain to keep the 🌿 dry LMAO. Listen to nature Man will always fail in comparison
Rain water versus tap water is a big difference .. Thanks for your feedback .. I always appreciate it.. happy gardening 🌱
I got a question do I have a strawberry plant and I was wondering if they will grow back every year?
Yes ! Strawberries are perennials, and will grow back in the springtime if the plants are healthy..
@@Greentgarden wow cool
apply compost or an organic fertilizer, such as blood meal, around the plants to increase nitrogen for plant growth. Or Organic garden tone .. will get the best out of the plant
Question, does the actual fruit of the watermelon do better in ripening under direct sunlight or under the leaves or does it matter?
Some people say full sun no leaves but to me it doesn't matter... . watermelon ripen its own and once the plant have enough fertilizer and water you will have a delicious watermelon
Greetings and thank you for the great info friend. What do you recomend for skinny leaves curling up? More water or less? Also had a few baby melons have their flowers dry up and the melons fall off.. any tips? Thanks again sir
Very sorry to hear that. So when the leaves curl it's it's kind of tricky because sometimes it could mean too much water and sometimes it mean less water ..
I would water every 2 days and also you could check the soil stick your finger inside it soil if it's dry that means it's you need more water if it's already moist, it has water skip a day or two.
If your melon falls off it could be The plant is on their stress or it wasn't pollinated by a bee...
Make sure you have bees in your garden and your watermelon plant has to have female and male flowers to pollinate. You could always hand pollinate in the morning time..
Another thing to do is to increase your calcium to keep the plant and the watermelon healthy. This would avoid any rotten problem in the future too
@@Greentgardenthank you kindly friend for the thorough troubleshooting advice. I will add some crushed up eggshells to the coffeegrounds mix and add asap tomorrow morning. First time growing watermelon, + by seed & on top of that the orange and yellow tropical varieties, so I'll be happy if i can even just get a few melons to harvest..🙏👍 has been getting colder last few nights but warm weather on the way so hopefully they survive 🤗
Your so welcome and Backyard watermelon it's worth it. It's very delicious and tasty and it's beautiful overall to see in your garden..
I hope the hotter weather comes because they Will grow faster and better.
Super sorry about the late response. You have a wonderful blessed Sunday and happy gardening.
Plant nursery said don't water it to much in az. I can't seem to get the vabies to stay alive😢
I'm sorry to hear that but your area is super hot so I would definitely water lightly every single day. I will do it in the evening... Make sure to add fertilizer and repeat every 2 to 3 weeks to keep the plant healthy too..
Always do a light pruning in the evening time that will help to get some air flow..
After you do all that give it some time it will get better
Thank you so much
Your welcome.. happy gardening 🌱
I have a problem help!!! I took a handful of watermelon seeds and threw them in my lambs ear flower pot! I had no hope that they would grow and now I have about 10 seeds that sprouted and they are all clustered together do I separate them and repot each one or do I repot all of them together? 😅
Lol Make sure to separate them.. Watermelon plants can grow easily 8 to 10 ft long and grow many side shoots that read 6 ft on the side. They could take over a lot of space...
@@Greentgarden thank you for your response I think I’ll just take them to a local farm 😞 I don’t have that kind of space here in my 15x15 sq ft yard
@@Greentgarden I counted 22 sprouts 🌱 just now
Sorry And I do understand... Happy gardening 🌱
Nice.. I hope it all goes well for you.. Happy Garden. Keep us posted
Nitrogen only as plants are young. Phosphorus and Potassium for when the flowers start, less N. Too much Nitrogen produces big foliage, less fruits
Thanks for sharing.. I love when every Gardener shares their knowledge and experience .. as growing for years now I love it I am still learning too ... Have a wonderful Sunday 🌱
How can I grow watermelon 😭😭
Make sure you have temperatures over 65° .. Make sure you have enough room because watermelons are runners , If you water every 2 to 3 days you have to stick to that schedule and routine... As soon as the plant has it first start adding fertilizer every 2 weeks to your plans to keep it healthy .. and a light pruning helps .. that's it .. what's growing on with your plants?
Whats your opinion on planting peas near watermelon plants? Im thinking this might actually work since peas usually make great companion plants for nitrogen loving plants like corn.
Oh absolutely! It's a great idea. Both will increase the nitrogen for sure.. Thanks for bringing up this and sharing this with us. I appreciate it....
The fruit just dries up for me
Sorry.. Maybe it didn't pollinate... It will get dry and then turn black and fall off.. Try to hand pollinate with a tiny small brush.. are used the male flower to the female

What sort of fertilizer is best for watermelon? Meaning the NPK n trace elements
10 10 10 fertilizer is good ..
I normally mix organic garden tone. Fertilizer with a bone meal works pretty well..
Garden tone. - amzn.to/3VN41tJ (Amazon #ad
- bone meal - amzn.to/3ROsMo5 (Amazon #ad
What about calcium?
I just cut a melon off that had a blackened end im thinking blossom end rot?
Yes absolutely, calcium plays a big part in watermelon .
Also anyway to give it a extra sweetness or best method to growing ? ❤
So to get a sweet watermelon it's all about the right time of harvesting. Also try not to make the plants stress out. Try to keep up with water fertilizer and also pruning..
I normally water every 1 to 2 days. I add fertilizer every two weeks and I always prune... Once you take care of the plant, it will take care of the watermelon given you a delicious juicy one
Put some eggshells too it's help give some calcium to your plants 🪴 thanks me later 😊
Thank you for sharing with us.. 🙏🏾🌱 have a wonderful day
It takes many years for egg shells to break down to the point where they become bio available to plants.
You got some healthy looking plants, how do you keep the aphids and pest away?
Thank you , so normally I use the neem oil , I had some aphids last week I mix soap and water and spray it under the leaves. two times for last week and they're gone .. for now thank god ..
@@Greentgarden thanks for replying, I had a bad outbreak of aphids on my melons last year, and I am trying to plan ahead this season in case of another infestation, I'm definitely going to use neem this year and possibly netting
@@RRD7-A904 you're welcome , sorry to hear that ...these bugs are too much sometimes, but just have to keep fighting them off.. Neem oil works good
@@GreentgardenIs soap and water good for all leaves???
@@mercedesbenzs600bash yes , Just make sure to spray that on the leaves in the evening time not when the sun is hot.. I use soap and water lots of time before..
Speak up. We can barely hear you!
You got it 😎
So i have some planted in starters. And i know i need to move them. They are starting to be on yellow on the bottom leaves. Can i just trim those, or i need to restart?
Oh you could trim those off ... It's always good to do light pruning... Give a better air flow And easy to water..
@@Greentgarden thankyou so much for replying. I will try that!
Your welcome 🌱
What will happen if you do water the leaves? I accidentally did a couple times.
So if you water the leaves and it touches the soil you have a higher chance of disease or bugs and if the sun comes out really hot. It will burn your leaves... That's why it's best to water the soil , Always do a light pruning around the root area so this way you don't water the leaves.. 🌱
@@Greentgarden thank you SO MUCH for your prompt and super helpful response!
Your welcome 🌱
can i plant zucchini next to watermelon plants
No I would keep them far apart..
Watermelon plant will run and take up lots of space.. make sure to prune.. I have videos on that
@@Greentgarden thanks 🙏

nice! I'll absorb any information I can. Fingers crossed I get watermelon when our seasons comes in Australia. Thanks for the quick tip!
You're welcome, I will do a video on how I prune watermelon plants , I did it last year and it works great, Watermelon was growing faster... That's awesome. You're from Australia. I have never been there before.. I bet it's super hot over there .
@@Greentgarden WOW! had no idea you could prune watermelon. I wouldn't mind a video, I enjoy the way you explain them. Straight to the point and clear.
We're in winter at the moment, up north is warmer but I'm in the south east where it's much cooler, it gets pretty cold down here in winter but heats up well in summer. We don't get long enough summer down here, so I need to get my plants in early this time, I planted too late last season and most of my summer plants didn't ripen or make it in time. Looking forward to more videos!
Wow ! Sorry it's winter, always start seeding indoors so you get a head start.. and thank you so much! I am glad you like my videos 🙏💚 and I did Prune watermelon plants before it easy .. will do a video on that soon..

Does the rain hurt the watermelon leaves?
Oh yes , too much rain will cause diseases like fruit rot, downy mildew, gummy stem blight, and anthracnose.
Is this the result from seed or do you have to do extra steps for the watermelon to produce?
This was planted from seeds.. just keep up with fertilizer every 2 -3 weeks and stick to a water schedule..
@Greentgarden Cool cool. I think the manual pollination is a cool concept. I've been wanting to grow my own fruits for a while now.
Yes your right and It is a wonderful thing on your own... One of the best things you could do in life I believe... Do enjoy your gardening... And thank you 🙏🏾
