One thing I forgot to mention is you can do Down Pokes into Spinning Spikes and Maintain safety with Goro/Stryker (think of it like D1 Baraka Barrage. Same concept)
I don't know if this video was recorded before the Motaro buff, but right now I would say Motaro is Shangs best cameo. His low shot is +13 on block. It does not jail and is somehow reactable but with Shangs old form 5hit mid string you have 4 possibilities to do the low shot. In god/elder god rank I haven't found anyone who was able to consistently react to it unless you always do it after e.g. the 3rd hit. His last hit in his F41214 string is a high (as mentioned in the video) and people can duck it. Now you can do low shot OR complete the string and people have to guess. You can also do his 'spike' move where he jumps back and it eliminates the gap in his string. It is > -20 on block so most characters can punish it but not with a full combo. Ashra & Mileena can full combo punish it, others probably aswell. So use the EX version against them. Whenver you are +13 after the low shot, you can go into your mid string again, back throw them or hit them with the overhead in his young form. It also recharges super quick so you can use it 3 times in a row before the last hit in his F41214 string (no advisable against better opponents). His reflect is also super good. With some lucky timing your fireballs might combo with the reflected projectile of your enemy or at least jail so they eat the 5% chip damage. Liu's EX fireball on reflect cannot be blocked and the opponent gets launched which then can be combined with EX ground skull for a combo (from full screen). So there is definitely some potential depending on the matchup. His 'turret stance' or whatever it is called (down cameo) shoots 3 mid projectiles so the opponent has to block. You can then shoot 2-3 times the 3 straight skulls for chip damage which adds up to 10-15% chip. If they jump or don't block they eat 20% unbreakable damage as it is all from projectiles. You can also do a setup in the corner and forward throw them after the 1st or 2nd Motaro shot is blocked for ~25% dmg. The combo into the setup also does ~25% so it is definitely worth it. The only problem with shang and motaro while zoning are characters like smoke and scorpion as they get a full combo from their teleport. On 2nd place I would probably put Kano, Goro or Sub. Kano/Goro for the DF2 special move safety on block. Sub for his armor and the possibility of morph combos. Kenshi, Omni-Man, Liu Kang and Mileena (these are the ones I have tested so far) lead to > 40% combos. Kenshi matchup is insane. F4121 into freeze then EX morph, sento summon + optimal combo = ~54%. Which leads into a 50/50 which results in another ~ 40-45% because you EX morphed. With Johnny as the opponent it is possible to fully build the hype meter in one combo after the morph. Sub is very matchup dependent for me. Striker is actually a nice idea, never tried him with Shang. So that's a good advice
It’s funny you say this because I’ve been exploring this team heavily… Motaro is definitely a great pick to help those F4 staggers… he can also use his ex injection into motaro teleport to get a full combo which is so sick… is he his best overall for everything in Shang’s Kit though? I still cant say he is… Although that synergy is strong it’s not the most effective for every MU. Sub allows him to play super defensively. Stryker allows him to play a little more chaotic (unsafe string covered by grenade safety) Kano allows him safety and offensive pressure at all times. Sareena makes him a two touch character with auto neutral. Goro raise the roof jailing is lowkey super broke after doing Spinning blades. He can also get sick Form stealer conversions with that assist. The low shot from motaro not being an ambush attack makes it less of a threat imo. He has to cancel a string to call in that assist which at higher level can start to become super predictable. If one of these Kameos I listed gets nerfed Motaro is right there on standby… At the end of the day use who you like 💪🏼🔥 Shang is such a fire character in this game!
4:38 NRS please take notes. This right here is what you should be putting in the tutorial and teaching players instead of creating combo's that feel like they were generated by a drunk AI.
I truly dont think NRS was ready for an assists based fighter at the highest level. You can tell there is so much to explore with the assists. Sometimes this exact sequence wont even record properly when you try to do i in the practice setting, that’s how I know they didn’t test everything

Sektor is definitely on my honorable mention list I just don’t think he’s top 3. He doesn’t provide much besides Damage. His rocket pressure is all gimmicks. Being able to stack up chip is such an under utilized concept with shang. If more people start to abuse this they will realize how crazy the character is. The damage buff is game breaking too
Bro, What you do is do the inputs for the old shang string first, shang will continue to do the combo. Then put in the inputs for the spinning spikes while he's still doing the combo in old form. When he's done with the combo usually on the last hit I morph then the spikes come out. You then have about a second to decide when you want to press R1
🤝🏻…. I think he has great zoning options but they are kinda slow on start up and recovery, he’s not the best overall zoner imo. I would say top 3 zoners are: 1) Shang 2) Reiko 3) Liu Kang
