    My son leases his cars. When he handed his last one back they charged him for a missing spare key. Fortunately he had videoed the handover and both keys were clearly handed over. He videos the full body with the collection truck in the background. He treats everything like that with suspicion. He's a traffic cop and it's jaundiced his opinion of other people's honesty.

      I assume that car dealers will basically try to screw people over in any way they can, legal or not. I normally prefer locally-owned businesses to buying straight from a mega-corp, but new car dealers everywhere have so thoroughly demonstrated their scumbaggery that I cheer on the efforts of automakers to break the dealership system and sell straight to customers.

    Had the same problem with an end of lease Audi TT. Collection driver could only find minor wheel scuff, said it would be a £70 penalty. Two weeks later Audi finance phoned claiming £1500 in rectification costs. The list included bald/damaged tyres, badly repaired front and rear bumpers and, best of all, a badly damaged centre console. Said their driver (from BCA) must have been blind to miss all that and, better still, how could the centre console be damaged as my car didn't have one? They dropped all charges a week later. Somebody, somewhere trying to defraud Audi.

    We had a run in with Ford finance some years ago, returned the car to their dealer who sold it but failed to pay Ford who were on our backs for many months until we showed them a copy of the receipt signed by their dealerships manager. A few days later the stealership admitted to selling the car but had 'forgotten' to let Ford Finance know !. Never bought a Ford since.

      If you read the small print on the finance documents, it’s made clear that you are responsible for clearing any outstanding finance on the vehicle and technically this should be done before selling/part exchanging the vehicle as you do not legally have title to the goods. Dealers usually have arrangements with finance companies and will handle this on your behalf in order to make the transaction run smoothly but whatever ever assurances any 3rd party gives you, and it’s very rare they are not honoured, it is the absolute responsibility of the customer to make sure things are done properly. I cannot stress enough how I point is for people to read contacts.

    I leased A Mondeo and used it like a van. I had problems with Ford Finance, they claimed a cigarette burn in the seat (I don't smoke), chip in the windscreen (tiny and outside the wiped area), and scratches on the tailgate (probably justified, van use!). I argued back and forth for a while and got the final bill down a little. I would never lease again.

    Another great video Gary! I've certainly had some experience with lease as my other half has had 3 or 4 on the trot.... Its been fairly straightforward, but we have used a pretty big broker, so their communication etc. is pretty slick. I am well aware of the many horror stories out there when it comes to giving it back.... I have always made sure the car has been as clean as possible, and have always been around on the day, and having spent far too many years in the motor trade, with enough of an understanding of the BVRLA regulations etc., I have always had clean collections with no issues. I do think making an effort by having the car presented well and being polite and courteous to the driver goes a long way! In terms of penalties, I do think they try their luck at every possible opportunity, and do think that their will be a fairly hefty percentage that just pay it.... At the end of the day the leasing company do nothing other than pocket that money as the car goes to auction as is, and with values as they have been post-covid, I'm sure are being sold ahead of what they owe them, so its a win-win for them!!

    i used to work for the particular company you dealt with. some of the charges are definitely excessive, and the vehicle appraisal training i was given was pretty basic and took only a few minutes. this could be why you were charged for a cable that wasnt standard equipment, they guy was literally just working from a standardised checklist. this isn't the case for all their staff, some have a lot of knowledge and experience, so know what to look for. it just gets bad when some of them act like the any wear or damage is coming out of their own pockets, and start to nit pick.
    however, compared to some of the other leasing companies i worked for, i liked how the appraisal is performed when the vehicle is collected and the customer has a good idea of the charges they will be facing. the next company i worked for (which shal remain nameless, but is bigger and very well known) would do the appraisal when the car returns to the depot, and the customer might not get the bill until a few weeks later.

    • @ModernHeroes

    I've driven quite a few Ford Rangers, one VW Amorok and a Toyota Hilux. All hired by work, so pretty new. The Rangers were all well mannered on a variety of roads, the Amorok likewise (but with more controls on the touch screen, so not as pleasant). The Hilux was only a single cab and felt more agricultural, but not terrible. It also had much less headroom so wasn't great and would have been a real pain (literally) off road
    I've never leased, I once bought a new car (£9200 on a bank loan), other than that I've bought all cars outright (never on finance), but as my newest car is an 09 plate I'm probably not the target market for finance / lease companies!

    The Maxis T90EV is designed for the American market therefore there are a number of variables to take into consideration. The average American weighs 650lbs hence the size of the vehicle, usually in the USA there is an addition daily snack trunk placed on the flat bed that has a typical weight of 1000lbs. A lot of roads in USA are unpaved and the terrible suspension and handling would not be noticed

    I find if im thinking of leasing a vehicle.
    I first try to at least book a test drive at a dealer to see if it will be what I want. Maxus i think use to be LDV . and im sure they brought the blue prints for the Sherpa.
    They seem to make low budget commercial vans which on the face look good value for companies that want a cheaper alternative to the likes of transit and vivaro.
    I suppose with a very small dealer network,the PDI is done at the import dock by a third party company. I remember years ago Hyundai did the same, and it left a lot to be desired.
    För someone who wants a 12 month lease they are fantastic value.and you hopefully get out of it without penalties.
    And of course you can give it back early.
    Just imagine if you had paid cash for that ?

    The lease company is providing finance, they don't care about you, or the manufacturer, it's no different than borrowing the money from your bank. When accepting, or returning lease vehicles it's critical that you understand the contract, document the condition (with pictures) and note the contents (e.g. cables, spare keys, etc.) on the delivery/collection note as this becomes the only valid reference in the event of a dispute. After this, the process is usually fairly straightforward, anything related to the contract you speak with the lease company, anything vehicle related is addressed with the manufacturer dealership as a service/warranty issue. For people who regularly change into new vehicles (every 2, 3 or 4 years) leasing can be an ideal route into a vehicle avoiding a significant proportion of the hit in depreciation purchasing might involve, but it's not right for everyone and you should research beforehand.

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  4 дні тому +1

      I understand that to some extent, I just thought they’d be a little more interested in their asset than they were.
      I’d almost certainly choose PCP over leasing to fund a vehicle in the future if I wanted the flexibility to not own it unless there was a significant difference in cost.

    • @Travel_Day_Dreams
      @Travel_Day_Dreams 4 дні тому +1

      @@ModernHeroes leasing only makes sense if you save money, in my experience (5 vehicles over 15 years) it's almost always cheaper than PCP if you intend to jump into a new vehicle at the end of the period. The risks are the same in that you don't own the title to the vehicle and you're responsible for excess mileage, and damage at the end of the period. If you want to own it for more than 4 years then purchase, ideally with cash, as this will probably save money you in the long run.

    Personally I’ve never lease and have financed in the past. But know own all my vehicles no worries on mileage or handing back or interest and so on. I can see leasing companies trying more and more on especially with EV’S, due to catastrophic depreciation and questionable liability in the real world. It would be a healthy ear industry if they wear left to free market rules with the added benefits it may not have issues Like catastrophic depression and massive losses by dealers Financ companies and manufacturers. But with governments dictat it dragging an entire industry down, ultimately We the consumer will be the ultimate losers let alone all the jobs lost and skills. In the long term. We are already seeing the effects like car manufacturers shutting down or winding down plants, layoffs, dealers shutting down or upping there prices by a massive margin especially on the back end with workshops. Also them having to pre register cars especially EV’S then massively discount them and still struggling to sell them just to meet targets. But if i wanted to buy a new ice car my dealer said sorry I can’t till next year but buy the way you could drive away today in this new EV lol 😂. Clearly the industry is in a very bad way and clear combat indicators of a un healthy industry.
    Not excusing what your lease company tried on at the end. But as the saying goes, If it sounds too Good to be True it probably IS… or comes with a lot of conditions. I can see more and more funny busines to try to recuperate losses.

      The battery is actually the engine of the vehicle.
      ICE vehicle’s engine’s invariably proven to last many more years than just 8 year’s.
      The longevity of EV’S is 🤨

      I still think that an 8 year warranty is great - on many diesel engine you only get 2 years - an LfP battery is expected to have 3 - 6000 charging cycles and if you charge 150 km per charge, that's 450,000 to 900,000 km, I think that's a pretty long distance.

      @ModernHeroes  4 дні тому +1

      Not this BS again. The length of an engine warranty is a lot shorter yet you’re not dribbling on about how long they last 🤷‍♂️

    Shame, certainly a market for a UK EV pickup, hopefully this won't put off people getting future trucks for other manufacturers
    (regarding putting weight in the back to improve ride, guess you never had a Capri 😛)

  • @BeingD2023
    @BeingD2023 4 дні тому

    really it may depend on the lease company. £450. for a charge cable you can get for £150.
    complaining now is the only way to get a fair deal.
    maybe record when vehicle arrives and when they pic it up.
    if they're trying to scam you then just report them to the controlling body
    we just accept every thing and pay for a quiet life.

  • @javic1979
    @javic1979 2 дні тому

    the T60/T90 utes are not the best on the market. they have improved greatly over the year's but still behind in vehicle ride and dynamics. combine that with a much heavier E axil in the rear its going to make the ride even worse.
    they strip out options to reduce weight and not consume battery.
    towing is a joke because its limited to 1000kg and combined with a fixed ratio reduction drive unit sucks the battery at low speeds driving up hills and at highway speeds.
    even when not towing fitting ladder racks and a length of storm water pipe can reduce your range by over 30%

    Why do manufacturers seem to think crap vehicles is what people want these days? In the past, cars were good and reliable,( 20 years ago), now they're not and have annoying ' safety' features like lane assist and auto start stop that nobody wants. Cars would do 50- 60mpg not now you're lucky to get 35, and as for EVs they're a joke. Funny they're not selling many cars isn't it? Perhaps they need to start making cars people actually want to buy.

    I’m on my sixth leased car and have had no problems with delivery or collection , never had to pay a penny. However I’m retired and keep my cars like new , if you’re a normal person and have kids kicking the back seats and perhaps kerb the wheels it will cost you when you return it . But this has to be offset by the money you have saved by not having any depreciation to worry about and much reduced monthly costs compared to buying. For me leasing is the way to go.
