- Just a short video of how to improve the sound quality and battery life on a GoPro. By running the GoPro battery bacpac you can run an external mic and a power cable at the same time.

I bought a used gopro hero4 silver and that thing sounded awesome for live music, i used it to record my son and my practice and i couldn't believe how good it sounded with the stock mic, unfortunately the camera stopped working so i have to go back to my hero 3 white which is a little muffled. I found a factory refurbished 4 silver i will probably pick up because supposedly that's geared for musicians.
Hey,
I'm in Navarre, just starting a gardening channel and want to improve my gig, maybe branch out to boogie boarding.
If you're fishing near here, or need a camper sport to, look me up.

Mic adapter for 3.5mm jack Connection Can you give the product buy link
great video
thanks 4 the info
thank you (liked)
Where was the battery tips?
For as much as the GoPro costs; sound quality should be a hell of a lot better without purchasing additional shit to make it work...
Yea, I was just looking at the promotional videos for the new Hero 5 and they supposedly fixed a lot of the audio problems with it, mainly it no longer needs to be put in a housing. Cant wait to get my hands on one.
You can also spend 10x what a GoPro costs on a DSLR for videoing and you still need an external mic for best quality results.
If you are videoing just for home security or a dashcam, you don't need the mic.
If you're taking your filming a bit more seriously, you'll need a mic no matter what you buy.
I still have my Hero 4 Black and 4 Silver that belongs to my elder son. It’s a nice set up that you have in there!
Great video! Thank you. I'm starting shooting of my channel videos, great advice.
I have the Saramonic G mic and it makes a popping noise. Ever have this problem? Thanks
Hi, is there any way to set the Hero 4 silver audio to Hi or Low? Thanks in advanced :)
It would have been a much better video if you had provided us with samples of the different mics you have, so the viewer can make an informed decision on which to get! but nonetheless you have some good Ideas there! 🙄🤓
Dead kitten lol you get a like for that
Thanks, that was helpful.
Thanks very helpful
Awesome! You just got another subscriber
I have a question, if I connect the external microphone to the GoPro Hero4 Silver, my display shut down, is this normal?
TBH I’m looking for skeleton housing backdoor with side opening and it is difficult. You just have to create a hole for it 😢
Good information!
Where can I find the back plate you attached to your go pro? Great video, you helped me tremendously
Nice review and pointers man, these guys were genius with these cameras and the 300 plus damn options "to go" buy.
Thanks for the amazimg video!!
Darren how long will I get time (min extra over standard battery) using a bacpac addition do u estimate? thanks john it seem every time I need to turn on battery is dead
Useless video without a demo of 'your improved sound quality'. Thumb down.
there all great but what if you use a gimbal?
and is the internal mic on the go pro on the top?
Thanks for the mic advice. The Saramonic is probably the one I’ll go for.
Very helpful video to understand the 8 trillion accessories to sort through when buying! Awesome
my 3 silver sounds like im mumbling from the basement
Cool. Thank you!
Im gropo user sir. Nice gopro
Just FYI I tried 2 Saramonic Go Mics and had nothing but trouble with them. Audio was unusable from either one. I sent the first one back and tried another and then sent it back too. I'm currently using the Rode Videomic and a Vivitar Zoom Mic. THe Vivitar does a very good job but REALLY pics up high frequency sound and makes it seem more than it is. (like birds chirping, squeaky shoes on the boat deck, etc) I use the Rode on the boat.
Sorry about your problems with the Saramonic. I have 3 of them and so far they have worked pretty good for me. Yea the Rode is definitely a much better mic but in a whole different price category. I have never used the Vivitar, they seem affordable enough, might have to pick one up to give it a try.
The Rose Videomic with the dead cat does great for close subjects but is lacking a bit once you get more than a few feet away. It works on ok the boat where everyone is fairly close. I Once I figure out a mount that will keep it out of the picture, I will probably move to a Rode Zoom Mic/dead cat. (But they are LARGE and hard to keep out of he picture. Thinking about a clamp on mount and longer cable In a small boat, their are limits to size and where to attach stuff so it does a good job and is out of he way.
Scott Gregg Vivitar Zoom mic is a good little inexpensive mic. you might want to look into to Rome Micro or equivalent for about $50. They work great
Oh and I forgot to mention that you might want to hook that micro up to a hotshoe pre amp. There's a few companies that make them like Zoom for example.
Great info thanks for the video. Just subscribed
Question for you, can you keep the power supplied to the camera while actually recording or is it just for charging out in the field between recording?
I do motovlogging and I'd quite like to be able to plug a powerbank into my camera, buy a couple of 64gb cards and record continously for several hours.
Yes, I keep the power plugged in all the time even while recording.
Hi nice videos. How do you mount on a speargun?
can you plug the mic into the battery bacpac?
What kind of mic do you recommend for live music...
Great video but id like to see and hear the difference to see if its worth it
when i had my gopro hero 3 i had 0 audio even outside the housing and now i have a gopro hero 4 and does great for meh
Just shoot with a compact DSLR with the same features as a GoPro. Too much to fiddle with.
I do shoot with DSLRs also but for the particular application I am using this setup for DSLRs still have all the problems I am trying to overcome in this video. Problems with wind noise and limited battery life plus thy don't like salt water spray. With this setup wind noise is mostly cut out, battery life is indefinite because it stays plugged in to a power source and the gopro is impervious to the salt spray.
does the mic tell you when the battery needs changing
thank you
Dead kitten :,) :,)
I have a Go Pro Hero 4...?
wow great info.
Have you ran into this and do you have a recommended solution?
No, I have never run into that before but than again I have never used WiFi. I just tried it and you are right, sounds like there is a damn helicopter flying over me. I guess my only advice is to turn WiFi off. Maybe the Saramonic is just too sensitive to use wifi. That sucks that there is so much feed back from the go pro. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Thanks for responding! By-the-way I found your video usefull.
After watching your video I purchased the Saramonic G Mic for my Hero 4 Silver GoPro. However I get a constant Clicking when using it. So far all I can find is that it is inteferring with the WiFi of the GoPro. It works if I turn off WiFi...but that's how I control my camera. I also purchased the battery backpack.
mr11bigboy11 turn your wifi off. those mics aren't magnetically shielded so they pic up a clicking sound from your wifi off the gopro or maybe even your cell phone.
I was having the same clicking/ticking noises and I couldn't figure out way. Now I know. Thanks I will keep my Wi-Fi off from now on.
Won't the mic stop working if it gets wet
Yes, its not for underwater use and the goal is to keep them dry.
@@FloridaSaltwaterLife I was thinking the same thing and am a bit confused as I thought the purpose of this video was that you use the go pro while on your boat but you wanted better sound quality? It seems like these options aren't for on a boat so I guess I'm just confused as to what purpose this solves for sound in wet conditions. I guess there isn't a great way to have good sound with a go pro in wet conditions.
Dead kittn 👌😂
Would you recommend the seramonic mic for use while the GoPro is mounted on a headband? I deer hunt with dogs and am looking for a mic to pick up the dogs better from a distance. I have also looked at the bacpac reviews. It seems Smatree is a very popular choice with a lot of folks. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Yea the Saramonic would defiantly give you better distance and sound versus keeping it in its sealed housing or the skeleton housing but I would be somewhat concerned with damage or it falling out if you are running through the woods after your dogs. I would probably zip tie or twist tie it in and try not to bag my head too much into the brush.
I sure appreciate the info buddy. I'm on a Police Officers budget and don't want to waste my money on garbage. Not many videos/reviews show the pros and cons of multiple mics like yours. You helped me tremendously
