    ERIC! if you need to get seats out of an aluminum head.....Hit the seat with a TIG welder and run a baed along the seat...When it cools down the seat will fall out of the head. You talk about the "Rottler Tax"....Cheap compared to the "Sunnen Tax"....I sourced a universal Variable Frequency Drive when the one went bad in my buddies VGS20 and we repaired it for less than $500 rather than buying the Sunnen retro-fit kit that was $2500!

      Thats how I do it. I need the tooling to cut the registers and put the seats back in.

      @@WeingartnerRacingElston off road mechanics in Alice Springs, he used to get the seat's cut with a bevel start of the seat, at a machine shop,then we would seat them in, and cut the seat with a New way cutter, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones

    Funny! I was just talking to somebody else in the industry about this yesterday and they were saying the same thing about Rottler, and their reps.
    We were also discussing the decline of small shops, and the fact that not a lot of younger people are interested in learning this stuff from the guys with decades of experience.
    Did you have any specific mentors when you were learning porting, and the cylinder head business?
    I think what you've done starting from your garage is pretty impressive, and thanks for the deadpan honest sharing of info, and opinions!

    I really think companies need to start leasing equipment & maybe they do. They would sure have more in use as only the big guys can afford to purchase several macines for blocks & heads with tooling. I'll never buy any as Im not mortgaging my home in hopes people will flood me with machine work. I have a lathe & mill & mill my on intakes & heads plus other machine work. Carbide, anything takes a chunk out of your wallet, and you dont know until you start buying the tooling you need. SuperFlow is the same way as Rottler. I bought a $5 rubber diaphram for my throttle actuator, $45 plus $46 shipping & handling😮 They could have put it in an envelope & mailed it to me. I guess their time to grab it & put it in a package is on an hourly rate? Insane what companies charge. Im glad our economy is so strong, thanks to all the geniuses that elected Biden :(

    I agree that sales agents will make or break a business....
    We bought some heaters this past winter and the rep convinced our super to get something that wouldnt work. It needed clean electricity and 4x420lb propane bottles. When they didnt work, the solution to $9000 worth of heaters that didnt work was a $13000 generator and a $4000 fuel caddy....
    It wasnt until i said i was going to spend $2500 on something that didnt need electricity at all from one of their direct competitors that his tune changed. It was rediculous.

    Air compressor? I can’t believe you didn’t say anything about that. I can’t believe how much air I have to use in my garage. I never have enough air! You it’s got to be a nightmare. Also trying to get dry air.

    • @WeingartnerRacing
      @WeingartnerRacing  5 місяців тому

      The air isn't a big deal to me because I use electric to grind. The blast cabinet and cleaning equipment is the other stuff I didn't show.

    I agree, the SG-20 is great.
    I get why you don't like to do seats. But that must hold you back at times?

    Man the tooling sounds expensive for everything but hey i don't know. Then the super man i will give you examples which i agree with you 100% and the whole i an the best thing soemone saying there the best you know i do know people who act like and it drives me crazy because they think they know it all because they have years of experience which yeah it help but doesn't mean they know it all. Crazy i am curious if you had people say that to you or customers told you what other said to them i don't know curious

      I often get asked question about what DV has said to do. I use to give an honest answer then they usually never contact me again because they believe him without real evidence of what he is saying. Now I just say hmm ok.
