Yootha Joyce was such a gifted actress. Real life for Yootha, who gave so much joy, wasnt so bright. Which is a great shame, yet for all of us who watched her, will never forget her! Rip YJ❤⭐️🇬🇧
Yootha was the best for the role in both Man About the House and George and Mildred. No one wouldve done better. Its just a shame that her character was a misandrist who felt good about belittling her husband. Would love to see a sitcom with the roles reversed and see how far it got.
They don't make comedy shows like this and others from the 70's any more, they were so funny. Today there is nothing on TV remotely funny, thank God I lived through the 1960's 70's and 80's.
I worked in the early 70’s at the then Thames Television in Teddington Lock on programmes such as Magpie, Paperplay with Itsy & Bitsy, Rock Follies, Quick On The Draw (with the now tainted Rolf Harris) and this programme. And l can honestly say Yootha Joyce and Brian Murphy were truly lovely humble people ❤️ The girls at that time were in their primes so were a bit up their own oneness and Richard O’ Sullivan was mostly quiet and never said much at all
@@poddy6530 It truly was a magical time in my life poddy 🙂 Oh I forgot to add about Rainbow as that started life about 1972 ish Life and programs then were so innocent and society was at a different place that it is in today 😢
At junior school in the days these series were shown. Perhaps the best ITV comedies on at the time. The "Doctors" series the best before that along with "On the Buses". "Robins Nest" was O'Sullivans other best series in the late '70's. Sally Thomsett perhaps the most attractive British actress on tv at the time. "George and Mildred" another classic, Mildred not someone to mess with. Admit I did not realise that were adapted for US TV. Great memories all the same.
Sally Thomsett didn’t play an intelligent character in Man about the house, quite the opposite! It was sad that Youtha Joyce died a lonely alcoholic but Brian Murphy remained her one true friend right until the end, he was the only one at the hospital with her when she died.
I agree with you, but if you watched her closely, she always had a shrewdness and a street smart thing about her. Loved the show and Yootha Joyce. Apparently her choice of poison was brandy. YUK,!
@@FactsVerseUK Something of a similar nature would be fine. How about the cast from some other iconic British comedies such as a now and then of Only Fools and Horses and/or Goodnight Sweetheart?
Brian Murphy also later starred in Brookside on Channel 4 and One Foot In The Grave on BBC1 amongst other series-he is a versatile actor of course for sure too!
A few inaccuracies re Sally Thomsett, most notably that it was not her who starred in ‘Straw Dogs’ but Susan George ! She was also in her early 20’s when she starred in ‘The Railway Children’.
You say Richard O'Sullivan first gained recognition in the 1960's playing Robin Tripp in Man About The House. WRONG. Man about the house was the 1970's not the 1960's.
There are so many incorrect facts in this video, so it's a thumbs down from me. 0:42 - Man About The House wasn't made in the 60's it started in 1973. 1:05 - Doctor in the House isn't a drama it's a sitcom and started in 1971 so BEFORE Man About the House. 1:27 he wasn't in Carry on Loving, I think you've mixed up Richard O'Sullivan with Richard O'Callaghan whose name appears in that poster you're showing. Richard O'Sullivan was in Carry on Teacher in 1959 but NOT in Carry on Loving, this is probably why he did a DVD commentary 1:49 for Carry on Teacher and that's the one he was actually in.
My family home was next door to Brian Murphy's house, in Caversham near Reading Berks, he was a notorious local alcoholic, often staggering around near the Church Street shopping area and making a nuisance of himself in the off license. He was regularly brought home by the police, and my Father once found Brian upside down in a garden bush next to our greenhouse, with urine and faeces trousers. Although I must say, that during periods of sobriety, Brian was the finest fellow you could ever have the pleasure of meeting.
I met Paula Wilcox in the upstairs of a pub in the London theatre district, just behind St. Martin's-in-the-Field Church, in about 1981. Very attractive, intelligent and warm and she slaughtered my skinny then girlfriend at arm wrestling! She said that dance training gave here a strength advantage. So, Paula has my vote purely on the favourable impression she made on personal acquaintance..
We're very happy to know that you had the chance to meet Paul!! Thank you so much for sharing your life story. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
@@FactsVerseUK I haven't seen the show for nearly 50 years, so I can't distinguish any episodes, but my general memory is overwhelmingly positive about the series. Paula's character was the most straight laced as all the others had distinguishing querks.
If I remember correctly possibly Richard OSullivan's first role was playing the brother of Cleopatra in the movie starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton
Paula WIlcox made her name in The Lovers, no go on to do it, as it was 3-4 years b efore Man about the House, they had even made a film of that TV series a year befor Man about the House started.
I think I got him mixed up with Richard off of keeping up appearances who died recently glad to hear Brian is still alive he's very funny and a great actor
Yootha Joyce has definitely changed... dying tends to have a fairly drastic effect on the human body. But I can't see where the video has actually mis-identfied her.
Surprised you didn't mention Robin's Nest, that ran for 6 series after O'Sullivan left MATH. Also Dick Turpin was successful for him. A family friend worked at Thames and knew the cast, he said they were all nice although Paula was more quiet than the others. Nobody guessed Yootha had a drink problem. He was also very fond of Tony Britton, George Layton and David Kelly from Robin's Nest. The press were causing O'Sullivan and Tessa Wyatt a lot of stress, they only came out as a couple when she was pregnant with their baby. A lot of Spanish media were interested in MATH and the spin offs and the cast were often invited to Spain.
Brian Murphy is definitely not dead yet. My mother comes from the Isle of Wight and she would have told me that for sure. The island has only two famous actors Jeromy Irons and Brian
I loved Man about the House, and George & Mildred. Another spin off ROBIN'S NEST was equally as hilarious. Every one of the characters of the shows aforementioned were integral to the respective shows. Their comedy was INCOMPARABLE! As for the American show There is Company; NO THANKS. There is one thing Americans cannot do, and that is to mimic British Comedy. I find it impossible to watch any American comedy. The delivery is lame, and that bloody canned laughter is unbearable. Sorry, but that is my verdict.
Just for the record, there is a photo of Susan George, taken when she starred in "Straw Dogs", with Dustin Hoffman. However, Sally Thomsett did also appear in this film. 👍

Sally Thomsett was famous before man about the house. Her role in the railway children sealed her future
She was also regularly on the Children's Saturday morning pictures show ' Danny the Dragon' in the late Sixties.
@@Raider577 Correct. I was just thinking that too.

She literally was th best of them all😢😢🙏
Heard Richard O'Sullivan and Sally Thomsit were romantically linked whilst the made the show
I like Paula Wilcox and I'm glad to see her on Coronation Street where she plays a good part and captivates her audience as ever.

Loved all the characters especially Brian Murphy in George and Mildred
Our favorites too, you've got taste! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Seems like the makers of this video got the character traits of Chrissie and Jo confused.
Brian murphy playing George, is the human version of Homer Simpson. Straw Dogs, the still is Susan George.
Great show
I liked them all. It was an ensemble series.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
At last Brian Murphy is aging, from 1970's - 2000's this guy NEVER aged....
A few inaccuracies re Sally Thomsett, most notably that it was not her who starred in ‘Straw Dogs’ but Susan George ! She was also in her early 20’s when she starred in ‘The Railway Children’.
She was also in Straw Dogs as Janice Heddon.

This is really screwed up, also it RICHARD O'CALLAHGAN (Patricia Hayes' son) that was in 'Carry On Loving', not Richard O'Sullivan.
I met Richard o Sullivan once on the undergroumd and he was very friendly to me
he now lives in a nursing home
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing this info about Richard. We're happy to know that you had a nice time ❣
O'Sullivan also played Robin, in Robin's Nest, opposite Tessa Wyatt.
Brian Murphy, basically living the dream
Maybe if he had been married to Sally Thomsett. LOL.
Brian Murphy is fantastic.

At 4:28 there is a lovely picture of Susan George, not Sally Tomsett.
Saw Paula wilcox in darlington a few yrs ago appearing at the civic theatre I used live near the theatre, so I got to see a lot of stars
Time ticks on.
Richard O'Sullivan was Pharaoh Prolemy XIII in Cleopatra 1963.Subbed.
Correction he was in carry teatcher not carry on loving Richard o'callaghan was in carry on loving
Sally tomsett was also in a episode of nearest and dearest with sandy from cross roads
The Lovers was 1970 3 years before man about the house.
How you could mention other roles Brian Murphy played yet not mention Stan the shopkeeper from Wizardora is criminal!
Richard was a big child star

Agreed. The Lovers was broadcast about 1970 and Man about ..... 1973 so you are 100% correct.

Richard also did adverts and cook book
Man about the house was 1970s not 60s as said at 38secs.
Richard also went out with Sally for a while and also went out with Tessa Wyatt from robins nest
All good hard separate them outstanding actors
Hang on, ain’t that image at 4:28 not Susan George and not Sally Thomsett, or amma trippin’?
Yootha also appeared in steptoe and son and open all hours pilot.yootha was married to the actor landlord in minder

i liked brian murphy in the booze cruise particularly when he was stoned on the steam train
Also great when he attempted suicide by trying to jump off Victor's roof in One foot in the Grave!
Great series the American version was Three's Company.
4:23 - a picture of Sally Thomsett. 4:27 - another picture of Sally Thomsett...but it isn't, it is someone completely different.
Susan George in Straw Dogs. Sally Thomsett was also in that film.
Ummm pretty certain that’s her on the left.
Richard also played in a series called Dick Turpin
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Doctor at large...a long way from a drama😊
Paula also in episode of the green green grass and episode of still open all hours

Richard O'Sullivan also Robins Nest, Dick Turpin etc etc
Richard now lives In A retirement home in twickenham near the rugby ground
