Moser's quick thinking and athleticism allowed her to avert what could have been a very serious injury.

It looks like the broken ankle on the pole vault could have been prevented if the mats were not angled and just squared off like the landing mat.

Granted I'm a Masters athlete on a different level, but this old man took a full year after an ankle fracture to be able to do anything remotely athletic and I'm still not competitive. 5 months to get to Olympic level from a more serious injury than mine is quite ambitious.

Looking at the severity of her injury, it seems highly improbable that she will return to action in 5 months.
But one has to appreciate her positivity and optimism. It is her only chance to compete in the Olympics at home.
