In my own Connecticut home I have found that the Ditra floor heat provided an acceptable level of winter season heat for my small master bathroom that also has an exterior wall and window. I tried to explain this to a mechanic engineer for a small existing home remodel and he wouldn’t buy it. Hmmm…
What are the extra steps for air sealing a house with paint on the walls. I saw an image where the wall paneling wasn't covered. I'm trying to get things painted soon to keep moving forward this winter.
@@NSBuilders A friend tested this during an application with some carpet piece, leaving half uncovered. The dried mist was easily vacuumed up, he was impressed.
Why could you not keep spraying until you fully seal the building. You stopped at 1.93. My thinking is that a .5 should be possible. Tell me where I am wrong. Great vid, by the way.
I'm working with an AeroBarrier guy in Colorado, and he'd agree. It's essentially a matter of how much material you're willing to blast in (at ~$100 per gallon). Typically the builders have a target they have to meet and then stop.
since you are using aerobarrier to make an airtight envelope, is it possible to insulate with permeable rigid foam, and add weep holes to the exterior walls? or still not doable in cold climate?
Hey Nick, saw you at IBS, wanted to say hi but didn’t get a chance with all the people. Sure enjoy watching how well you build, glad you’re able to find all the right trade contractors and like-minded people to pull it off, that’s commendable in itself. That Aerobarrier is pretty cool. I’ve seen something like this for sealing inside HVAC. I do have one question on the Kerdi-board; what sort of fasteners did they use on that? They look like regular or slightly wider-head screws. They don’t look like the Schluter washers/screws, this might be an issue. Although maybe less so if they used an approved adhesive on the back side prior to install. Anyway, awesome video, sure enjoy seeing your work!
If u couldn't do any insulating I would have put some good styrofoam on the interior under the blue board as the insulation holds the heat in. Otherwise ur sol n pissin away a lot of money. U'll actually have to upgrade the hvac as fresh air will b needed.
scott webber Hey Scott unfortunately your comment is in accurate, while we did upgrade the HVAC system in this house the mass wall construction keep the heat inside the house. Reducing the need for thermal insulation
I'm surprised a more vapor open insulation couldn't be used after the aerobarrier goes in. Either rockwool or dense pack cellulose with a smart vapor barrier like Intello.
It's the little, inaccessible, and overlooked cracks and seams that make that approach unworkable. It also depends on the hyper diligence of your workforce, so: no dice.
Aerobarrier has to be the coolest development in air sealing since like ever! Very interesting!
DesignIY It’s very cool, definitely some quirks but I think it has a lot to offer our industry
Love the stat's before and after. Especially graphs.

Have been waiting for this episode. The complexity of your projects is fascinating.
Vaughn Hostovich Really appreciate that, we truly try to put our best foot forward every step of the way

Doesn't the Aerobarrier mist end up on every exposed surface and be problematic from a cleaning/texture/finishing perspective?
J Healy it only sticks to horizontal surfaces. So floors and sills are covered if necessary.

I would like to see another test in 5 years since acrylic caulk is not crack proof
Thank for the video however, your work is stellar
so all the masonry walls at this project are not insulated?
Gen Zyannd that is correct. The home actually didn’t have a cavity for insulation.

What accommodations to improve air quality at that ACH have been incorporated?
Steve Patak we have dehumidification, humidification and two ERV unite along with a 7 zone HVAC system
Why didn't these guys use closed cell foam insulation 1st.
Fix a flat for houses

Chalk lines on plaster are nothing new. My father did it 50 years ago.
Sean M thanks man! Appreciate you chiming in
Nate looks like dave Portnoy
