- Three teens were arrested for attempted murder following months of violence between two suspected Polk County gangs.
Sheriff Grady Judd said, back in March, a gang from Winter Haven recorded a social media video of themselves dancing on the grave of 16-year-old Dartavious Outsey, who drowned back in 2019. Outsey was the younger brother of one of the Haines City gang members.
The video escalated tensions between the groups, and between March and May, the sheriff's office said there were 16 drive-by shootings or running gun battles between gang members.

I'm 19 and this is truly terrifying. I grew up in a Balkan country and have had very small gangs in my city. Lads of my age, even younger, having so much violence inside them. I had never seen them in person nor experienced them, but the problem was there. In a different city, something happened, the next week in another, and so on... It's truly unbelievable, yet true.

My weapons were always loaded and accessable for defense and my children knew exactly where they were always kept and that they were always loaded. If you are a responsible adult, you teach your children how to manage their feelings/anger in nondestructive ways. All parents are charged with protecting their children from harm by teaching them to not run into traffic and to look both ways before crossing the street. Teaching them what to do if they find a firearm at a friend's home is a smart and a responsible thing to do. You won't always be standing by and watching their every move. There is a lengthy list of things that parents are charged with regarding teaching and protecting children. As children grow and become more independent, they go to friends homes without you. While there, it may be that one of their friends may find a loaded firearm. If you have taught them well, no one will be harmed.
No one is born a killer, a social flower, or a genius. They become what they become because of the net environmental stimulus that they are exposed to. Parents, close family members, neighbors, friends, and society are all major influences and shape how a developing child's mind will work as the child matures to adulthood. It is safe to assume that these kids that did the shooting lacked the environmental stimulus/guidance in their lives that would have instilled the skills to manage their feelings, gave them respect for life, and the ability to exercise good judgement. It is truly sad for everyone whose life is now forever altered.
