I requested this specifically for the lines "One day I'll be old and ugly, will you still be thinking of me? If we were as brave as we are now." I didn't know at the time why it hit me so hard, but after I heard that line I fell in love with the song twice as much as I had before. Such a mature tallented artist who has become one of my favourite song writers next to Queen and The Who.
Grace is a singer song writing genius one of a kind. she wrote this song while on a break from her acting debut in the film “star girl” apparently in about hour!😳 and the director liked it so much they added to the end of film. Well said about limitations society places on people. we are all put into “little boxes” as we grow. expected to conform to a certain category that society dictates. its time for a change. and it’s new generations like grace’s that are going to be the instigators for that change and It will be past down.into the future.and a new evaluation , a new way of “thinking” (consciousness) will be born.
You know what’s amazing is that she has found her stride so damn young.. the future for her is going to be remarkable because she knows her talent, she is enhancing it & growing it accordingly, or really quickly, & that takes such a maturity & instinct that I can only feel proud of her for! To have such instinct that u know ur gift, bless her!!! 🖤
Great reaction! -- IMHO Grace is the best poet/singer/songwriter/performer since WWII, and I grew up with Paul Simon, Dylan, Lennon and McCartney, Joni Mitchell, etc. I absolutely love her voice, but you are spot on about her writing ability. She's at a boarding school right now (a junior in HS)and she's been doing some Dorm Room Sessions with covers and originals and it's been incredible! Worth a look, they're here on you tube.
I don’t think there is a better lyricist out there. Her music is changing as she’s growing and in the next couple of years you’re going to see just how incredible she is. There is great artists out there and they have their style. The difference is, they aren’t growing in their talent. They maybe doing different songs but they aren’t changing...Grace is. That’s really the beauty of the journey with her. You never know what she’s going to do next...that’s what a true prodigy does.
I used to watch AGT and her first audition literally had everyone talking. She was so sweet looking back at the crowd in awe as she left the stage! I pray she keeps a level head!
So happy you reacted to Grace again. I haven’t been impressed with a musician like this girl since the seventies. And so so young. She is astounding in so many ways. But it’s the songwriting that gets me too. She’s only sixteen and has like 50 or 60 originals. And not one a clunker. In fact they’re all at least great, and some of them are out of this world. She is one for the ages. Can’t wait til you explore her more. You won’t even believe what she’s written that you still haven’t heard.
Thank you so much for your excellent comments about Grace's song writing skills. A lot is said about her beautiful voice, but you have said it best. Her song writing is genius, her mind is constantly pouring out amazing lyrics that remind me of Bob Dylan, Joanie Mitchell, really old school lyrics, again thanks for this!!
Grace has an AMAZING talent! So glad to see her here after watching her on AGT. My first thought when I heard this was exactly what you mentioned. This would make an incredible movie soundtrack. It really sets the mood, while telling a story! Love her!
This young lady is a very old soul. She gets it at such a young age. I can't help but worry about her in this day and age in Hollywood and Disney.I absolutely love this young lady. She gets it already. I pray for her and all the kids.
Wrote it at 14 on the set filming Stargirl and presented it to the director who included it into the credits with a short video clip at the end with her co-star, don't miss it!
Grace VanderWaal is a pearl of great price and should be cherished. I believe the likes of will not pass this way again. Thank you for shining a light on the true spirit of music. Great reaction. Hope you will check her out again her musical portfolio at sixteen already has many marvelous works and wonders. I honestly believe when she lays down her pen in finality, she will be amongst the greatest of all time. Peace.
Didn’t you originate that quote watching another Grace VanderWaal video (Darkness Keeps Chasing Me)? 🙂. She’s so creative that she can bring it out in others too 🙂. I think you need to watch more Grace VanderWaal 😁
Nice reaction MRM- check out Grace’s live performance of her original song I Don’t Like You on the James Corden Show last year- high energy and classy. I know you’ll enjoy- Thx from Downunder.
Grace wrote this song when she was staring in the film. The director saw the the song and wanted it in the movie. How many so young write a song that is used in any movie. This so far is my favorite song that she has written so far.
Have enjoyed Grace since her audition AGT, and have bought her first album. two other girls that I have been watching the last several months are Savanah Shad who does duets with her dad Matt, They killed "The Prayer" . Karolina Prostenko, an 11 yr old violinist who has been on several shows. She just did a vocal and she has a beautiful angelic voice. I also put Voice Kids global in search and you will see many great child singers from all over the world.
LOl your comments ring true my friend, Disney restructured the movie and sound track while in mid production to allow for Grace's composition at at thirteen, That in it's self is a testimony to Grace's song writing ability really quite profound.I do not know if that has ever been done before. GGT
She actually wrote this when she was 14; for some reason Disney took forever to release Stargirl so she couldn't perform it until she was 16. Incidentally she's also a natural born actress; despite never having acted before she is brilliant as Stargirl. Whether she's singing, acting or modelling she has something special that shines through. If you haven't heard it listen to Letters vol 1, a brilliant EP that not only showcases her writing ability but her production skills as well; she works very closely with each producer to get the song the way it sounds in her head. Girl is a genius.
She did a lovely job in the movie, Stargirl. She's a natural, and the movie itself is artful and layered. This song plays during the credits, and ends in a short trailing scene with her singing to Graham Verchere, the actor who plays Leo.
I love this sound that she has, a style all her own with a very unique voice unlike any other for sure. TY, (Modern Renaissance Man) I have two very much under the radar songs that I think you might enjoy; One group was called Splinter, a group that was produced by the late great George Harrison of the Famed Beatles. It's an English group that he helped to promote , as you might imagine , his way of giving back to an industry that was good to him. The Group never gained huge acclaim , yet this is a very nice song I think you will enjoy. Its from the record label Dark Horse Recording; ua-cam.com/video/5r77DgLjZX4/v-deo.html A second group from the early 70's that I in fact saw in person as a teenager that did receive much notoriety, was the group; Ten Years After, and the song is "Here They Come"ua-cam.com/video/wuYnO6i8BYE/v-deo.html Another great Alvin Lee song is; "I would love to change the world" ; ua-cam.com/video/lSYFJB7o9ZQ/v-deo.html
This is a really beautiful performance from Grace. Thanks for the great reaction. Could you please react to her live cover of "Best Friend" by Rex Orange County? Grace has many fantastic original performances, but I really enjoy this performance. Grace has a lot of fun with it and it really shows off her stage presence. ua-cam.com/video/29EBewKX8Cw/v-deo.html
Two suggestions for future reactions: "You're No Good" by Linda Ronstadt ua-cam.com/video/6ysu2aUCwgk/v-deo.html "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel ua-cam.com/video/OJWJE0x7T4Q/v-deo.html
Grace is anything but boring have you never listened to her before, this song fits the mood of the movie its just one of many of her singing styles she also writes some great upbeat songs.
That made me tear up . What a soul penetrating voice
More Grace!!!!!
Mesmerizing, captivating - one of a kind. Beautiful songs music and voice. You get captured by her if you start listening to her music.
She gives me chills, goosebumps, like Angelina goosebumps, but these are definitely Grace goosebumps.

Grace is so different than what we are used to from the music industry, it boggles the mind.
Her powerful lyrics and vocals are supernatural.
Yes, she's outstanding. A very rare talent lives in that young woman.

An enchanting song from an enchanting songstress. Grace VanderWaal is the most important singer-songwriter of her generation.
Grace is amazing please react more of her
Great reaction, Grace is a one of a kind talent! I hope you react to more of her live performances cause that is where she shines the brightest!
More insight and emotion in her songs than most grown ups have....she was 14 when she wrote this. She has grown even more since.
You know what’s amazing is that she has found her stride so damn young.. the future for her is going to be remarkable because she knows her talent, she is enhancing it & growing it accordingly, or really quickly, & that takes such a maturity & instinct that I can only feel proud of her for! Have to keep reminding myself she was 16 when she performed this, and I believe 14 when she wrote it. SMH, phenomenal.
Grace is a breath of fresh air in this crazy mixed up world we live in today. Great reaction!

Girls only 16 you'd think she was much older, been a fan since AGT
Yes! And she wrote this a the tender age of 14yrs old.
Thanks, I say this all the time about someone that is young.
❤️❤️
The universe of Grace is sooooooooooooo vast. Have fun exploring it all.
She definitely makes you stop and think doesn't she
