not for me, arms well out of position, shoulders not far enough back to allow the chest to promote the Maleness of the Dance, the quickstep, too slow, and the steps far to easy for Championships
This is really wonderful stuff. Id never seen it until recently. Like someone else commented, the dancers are very much like ballerinas in the way they step.
The syncopated music from the pipes. The tempo of the music. The steps, and the movement of the dancers in their skirts, all blend in to make for a fantastic performance. One cannot watch this enough.
@@lillyannloopbert9389 A kilt, traditionally speaking, is a man's garment. Traditionally speaking. The garment that is worn nowadays, is an abbreviated and modified form of the garment worn by men centuries ago, which was a long piece of fabric yards long, and wrapped around the waist and drawn over the shoulder. In short a utility blanket that was belted. The English suppressed the wearing of this garment and Highland culture in general. What is known world wide as a Scottish kilt is a more modern make which came about when things Scottish took on a romantic mystique. Sir Walter Scott gave it much impetus.
It was first to train warrior stamina and balance then to know if luck (= you have danced without touching the swords) will be with us before a great event to come.
Non dancers 👯♀️ have no idea 🤷♂️ 🤷♀️ just how difficult highland dancing is!!! Men traditionally did the sword ⚔️ dance …. Pity so few are up to it or prepared to kept tradition alive! They’d certainly be much healthier if they took it up!

@@andreastewart1958 Yes, there was a point in history where only men did it, just as other cultures have gender specific dances. I'm not saying women shouldn't do it, I'm just curious how it became a mostly female thing today.
lovely dancer, brought back memories, i used to do this 40 years ago, same steps too

@@luissantiago8446 it’s a kilt not a skirt

these ladies look like they are ballareiners the way they are dancing on the toes all the time
I remember growing up in Scotland watching the girls dance around swords and really wanting to try it, unfortunately it never happened.
Complejo pero hermoso baile!!❤

Didn’t they use to dance the swords before they went into battle?

I'll just revert to the Gaelic name, G666gle... fixed:
An MacFhearchair Mór Chomhail uilig anseo agus tógfaidh mé ár gCloch ar ais anois.
is that dunoon
Yes it is.
This is a dance of war. How it became a dance for young ladies is beyond me.
You don't think there were any lady Warriors?...it's also done for entertainment and competition, Highland Games like you see here...

A very good dancer, the only problem with the sword dance most people have is they look down at their feet, your not supposed to do that
Yes, you are supposed to look down. Imagine if you never looked at the swords?!
