Dudes Seiders save was a thing of greatness! Absolute Lidstrom level work right there. Seider is so under rated among the entire NHL. Wings fans love him but he deserves Norris consideration imo. Hes not as offensive as like Hughes or McKar or Josi but he is SO well rounded and better defensively than any of them.

This is definitely a Norris defensemen of the year for Seider. Raymond also killing it on the other end of the ice, as always. Dont forget ya recent Yzerplan Haters .. that these two signings are a good part of the reason we gave up ghostisbere, peron, possibly walman, and others!

It’s amazing how much different this team looks just 3 games in to Mclellan’s tenure. But I’m left somewhat baffled about what happened with Lalonde. This was the same coach and coaching staff and mostly the same roster as last year and that team played fast, played hard, scored a ton, fought back in games, and nearly made the playoffs. What happened between the end of last season until his firing that caused this team to look and play so vastly different? Either way, awesome to see the team playing hard again and winning some games. Looking forward to 2025 and seeing how this team progresses and changes. LGRW and happy new year to all
@@MarkMeridiusDecimus nah.. he was in excuse mode, denial mode, stick to the same chase and dump mode, penalty kill ineptness mode, and absolute-no-thumb-on-the-pulse-mode (choosing goalies for the night , pairings , line juggling and shake ups). He was out of his element by far. Don't tell me about Cooper winning the cup with Tampa. I don't care about lalondes help there. He was an assistant coach. And bringing up AHL Blashill and bringing yzermans buddy lelonde was just too institutional a couple decisions for the last ten years. Babcock was a bully. These were three absolutely hated coaches (by me and others ) or at least not loved (by the rest) for red wings fans. Breath of fresh air. . . Is an understatement. Lalonde , blashill, Babcock.. these were Mistakes. We finally have a different type of coach. And if McLelland ever goes, maybe our roster and team will yield attention from other veteran elite coaches in the future. Thank f-ing god
My best guess is, due to the losing streak of last year, Lalonde wanted to make improvements to the defense this year, so he overhauled the entire system it seemed. However, this didn’t work at all. It’s not just that they couldn’t score, it’s that their defense actually got worse anyway, so it didn’t even work as a tradeoff, it just made everything worse. It wasn’t even like the days of say, Jaques Lemaire, where his teams, even in defeat, played sound defensively, and just struggled to score. This failed by every metric, but Lalonde went all-in on it, and instead of working with his team to devise a system that played to their strengths, he became stubborn, likely fearing for his job, and simply never adjusted. That’s why the team looks so much better just by McLellan coming in and hardly even doing much yet, because he has given them the freedom to disregard all of that prior crap that was failing.
Sieder and Raymond are huge parts of our present and future. Some of these other prospects need to start crackin the lineup. Our future top 4 d should be something like Ed And Mo Wallinder and ASP
The big question is - do people owe yzerman an apology for criticizing the players he brought to the team or was it just Lalonde ? On the other hand, Steve held on to Lalonde for too long. This team is a night & day difference & doesn't make Lalonde look good one bit...don't think he'll be coaching an NHL team anytime soon. And happy new year 🎉
What a truly horrible idea. Trade our young stud defenseman locked up to a 7 year deal making 8.5 for an underperforming forward making nearly 12. I have a hard time believing anyone other than you would be on board for this
There were some players who quit playing for Lalonde. Can't have that. Those who quit on one coach can quit on another. Needed to change to keep this coup from infecting more of the team. The remainder of the season should be devoted to moving those behind the coup. The coaching had to change but to steal from the fans as they did for over a month shows me some players don't belong in a Red Wing uniform. LGRW🏒
Was tjere a coup or did Lalonde just write horrible lineups? Kane scored 20 goals last year. Exactly 1 of them had neither Cat nor Larkin on the ice. The Larkin Raymond Cat line didn't work for one minute this year from day 1 of preseason. But he kept forcing it and it cost him Kane and the 2nd line. He never tried Veleno w Ray and Larkin, which appears to work brilliantly. He didn't try Copp w Cat and Kane till the very end. Pat's scoring and highlight hot streak started while Lalonde was still coach. As soon as he got Cat and Copp. Prior to that Derek had mostly had him in a position to be unable to play.
Hearing McLennan talk about the games and critique and break down what they are doing is such a breath of fresh air.

I hated seeing walman go, he was energy, grit, fightiness and clutch. You could see he fired up the team to play fkn hockey.
