I store my fabric by type of fabric & by color, with plaids, polka dots & stripes in groups of their own. I have shelves that are 18" deep. I have a 24" dowel, with marks in from each end so it is 18". I fold my fabric to 18" & roll it up on the dowel, wrap paper around the roll (like they do with the fabric remnants at JoAnn's. I then put the rolls on my shelves, pulling out the dowel after it is in place.

I have a couple clear plastic filing bins, so I'll recycle the contents and give the hanging file folder idea a try!

Cinnamon, I tried pins on my fabric boards 4 yrs ago, but they get caught when trying to removing boards that are stored tight. Rubberbands dry and rot. Now I use 1/4" bulk elastic left from masks. 14" cut and knot tied in the end works great for 7''x11'' boards, plus doesn't damage fabric. I have over 450 boards in labeled Banker Boxes with section cut out of end of box for viewing fabrics...on large bookshelves. Works great ! I can see all inventory at one glance. Your new larger room looks wonderful. CONGRATS.

I just spent two days folding my fabric over comic boards and folding smaller pieces into IKEA bins. I am using the largest, 72"x72" IKEA KALLAX wall unit. Thank you for the very cool idea. I am also visually oriented with that "out of sight, out of mind" challenge. This system has all of my fabric out in the open, sorted by colors (I used ROYGBIV, plus white and black).

The boards are a great idea for smaller pieces of fabric! I have SO much fabric that a lot of it is stored in 12x12x12 milk crates, stacked on their sides (last count was 38 crates). Some of my fabric is in boxes and some in bins and full bolts stack on top.

Hi there. I just came across your channel today and have been watching your organizing series. Your sewing room was pretty before but I love the changes you've made to make it even more functional for yourself and your work process. 💖 I just thought I'd give you a suggestion about the harder to store fabrics that you've draped over file folders. You, of course, can take or leave my suggestion. 😂 For the file boxes that aren't clear, you might want to try laying them on their side (the wider side) and stacking one on top of the other so that you can see everything a bit better as well as to prevent a line / crease from forming on the fabric where it's hanging on the file folder. Hope this tip is useful to you or one of your viewers. Looking forward to watching more of your videos! 😊

Great! I am also very visual...and have ignored ! a lot of fabric in bins/tubs/stashes because I could not see it...out of sight/out of mind LOL so now I am in the process of cutting down foam board $store to wrap the fabric around, I probably owe someone an apology for not believing them, and not even trying their suggestions. I tend to be a bit of a procrastinator and Cinnamon, your room is perfect...love the doll sized shelf/fabric ... And you are certainly correct, when you say, doll clothing storage is a totally different topic. and I would like to see how others store their doll clothing, made from all those wonderful PFaire patterns we purchase . ThankS.

I've seen this video before in the Sewing With Cinnamon.
I ended up using this for my craft/sewing room. I bought plastic drawer units on sale. They're clear, so I can see what colours are inside and can open it to see exactly what's in. I bought poster board from the dollar store and cut rectangles in the size I needed (more work than comic cardboard but easier to get).

I think it's the year to organize and get rid of many things. I need ideas on how to store laces by the yard and ribbon not on rolls...ric rac and colored trims of all sorts! Going off to measure cubbies and order comic boards!
