Hi Owamie, OK this is not directly related to the video, but I have to say thank you. Thank you for starting off your videos with a proper introduction and background/context for each and every video. The fact that most people don't really see a lot of the videos and people you upload and talk about on Tik tok and you break it down before getting into the whole break down and stories, is admirable and speaks highly of your work ethic. I just came from another podcaster's channel (it came on by algorithm I guess) and there the stories just start, it kinda feels like someone just starts from the middle and one has no clue as to where it stems from. So thank you for the way you do your videos. It's engaging, it's well constructed and the interviews are enjoyable to watch. I wonder how Madam speaker gets those 400k views but OK.. this is my opinion and I'm not putting anyone down or comparing, but Owamie, you are made for this. You definitely are a natural when it comes to your work. I love it.
Moja Love must create a show that creates awareness about gambling, ,one that shows the casino life and people whose lives have been ruined by Gambling
Owamie thank you so much for touching on these sensitive topics and not being scared of asking the relevant questions. This channel really opened my eyes, I realised how I have a brother with a gambling problem 😢
They will never share awareness because to them it’s like a “ smear campaign “ against their business. But I’m glad these conversations are being held.
Owamie. It is really glamorous ed. Watching your show just revealed to me that I had a wrong perspective of gambling. I thought that it was a sport for rich people. That when I grown up I will go to those places and get to be a rich woman at the casino. 😢
@@BridgetteTsikira Sure, and some people who smoke an 8 pack a day will live to their 90's but that doesn't mean that there is an amount of smoking that is risk-free, smoking is irresponsible period. Drinking and gambling are the same, you're always at some level of risk when you imbibe these substances, 'responsible gambling' is just an industry buzzword so they can keep pushing for regulations that try and modulate the behavior of the consumer (a tactic that has been proven time and time again to do nothing or have mixed results) instead of regulations that would actually do something, like stake limits and lowering the speed of play of machines.
Maybe when we can start to do vetting according to people's salary that goes into their bank account and accounting for all their expenses according to their bank statement not what they input because a person can lie at the end of the day. From that set a monthly limit for each person once limit is reached, you banned from every establishment in the country. Even though illegal establishments exist and people can forge payslips and everything. At the end of the day we can try but I really do not think there is a responsible gambler out there.
So does drinking, smoking social media anything can be addiction but what we need to understand is that a responsible gambler so does a responsible alcoholic if the word exist. There are ppl that goes to casino for fun once in 3 months or a year what do you call that person?
Miss Kaymo...you went right to the truth and that is the one who pays makes the rules. Remember they care 0.1% so even those helping come from the perspective of come do this proven be the source of many families being destroyed but do it responsibly 😢
I think what we are failing to understand is that ANYTHING CAN BECOME AN ADDICTION.. one would argue that there is no responsible drinking because we have alcoholics so nje the main focus should be dealing with addictions and ensuring that when you participate in anything that releases dopamine can become an ADDICTION
Many pp, get into her situation with huge gambling debts & they never contemplate murder. Gambling just exposed the evil in her heart that was always there.
Unfortunately they always discover the addiction when they are on the verge of losing everything or actually lost nd theyr now denying as they fight to win back what they have lost.then they get even worse.its not different from drug addiction.u start by thinking ur in control whilst ur loosing it

I am sorry to say this but as adults we should start what we have the ability to stop or end. Gambling houses can't be closed because of our irresponsible actions. gambling is everywhere, not easy to avoid if you are recovering, they sponsor must sports, on tv, radio their ads are everywhere. social media gambling ads
You can’t shut down gambling because Kaymo got addicted. People need education and then to make the right decisions with what they know. Kaymo can’t attack the counsellors. It looks like she is not taking accountability for her decisions. Addiction is addiction if not gambling it could have been anything else .
I love this. Addiction is addiction; it could have been alcohol, drugs, working, exercising, the illness of addiction is a topic we never speak of, 10 years from now we are going to see a rise in people being addicted to social media
Thank you! They're attacking the wrong people. The lady in the middle is not taking any accountability. No one took her to a casino and pointed a gun to her head to gamble. Bare "winners know when to stop".
You are deeply misguided if you think Kaymo is the only person who has an issue. No one says shut the industry down but more needs to be done to educate and protect the consumers.. especially vulnerable groups. The Industry exists unabated. How can such a high addictive activity still be governed by 2004 legislation? In 2004 Betway (and others) and new practises in casino's didn't even exist. 😮
I have to agree. Even if stringent measures are applied, they will potentially steal or borrow money from family, friends or other unregistered ‘financial institutions’. It’s all about being accountable and knowing when you have surpassed your set limits. Seeking help/rehab as soon as you realised you are losing control. Unfortunately with ADDICTS, they need to reach rock bottom to snap out of it. Even when our guest ran out of money and reached her credit limits, she sought out other avenues to get her hands on money. Responsible gamblers will know when to stop. Otherwise ban alcohol and ban cellphones (ban everything) because there are humans that will be always find ways to misuse these or become addicts.
Imagine trying to convince somebody whose just won 400k with a mere 200 rand to do away with gambling! Heeeee nina niyadlala! What's that song, "Imnandi lento ngenza...." 😂😂😂😂😂
The problem with gambler they only count that one R200. They do not count the other countless R200s. And if you calculate it you will find out the spend R800k just to down the road win R400k. Even if the win that the 1st time they play they are going to spend it all & more at the casino. There is a reason they say the house always win Casinos employ psychological tactics to manipulate ppl prone to addiction to get addicted to gambling. These phone gambling sites are dven worse. They ALWAYS win. If you are smart you know.
There's no such thing as 'responsible gambling' when betting platforms thrive on losses. These companies invest millions in marketing, successfully linking sports with betting. For someone in recovery, it’s hard to enjoy sports without being triggered.
"For South Africa as a whole, the gambling sector contributed 0,38 % to the GDP (initial contribution) with a further 0,75 % indirect contribution," I just googled and i got this, so if indeed gambling add only 1% to the GDP, it can be considered for closure. Unless if someone knowledgeable can explain the real benefits of gambling, not just to an individual, but also to the economy.
Owamie, not true gamblers are not like dead man walking. They have feelings its just they would do just about anything to get a fix. Not that they are dead inside. there is something they are feeling which makes them or pushes them to go above and beyond to get what they want. For example , Kay MO did everything possible to get money but was conscious enough not to have sex for money or never slept with men. Meaning she did have some love inside left for herself
What I’m picking up from this conversation is this: The Responsibility Gambling Foundation is not allowed to discourage people from gambling, which is sad. It is also sad that they are funded by the same facilities that are creating the problem. If you haven’t started, don’t start
I think we will loose focus of this and miss what we have to learn, one cannot say ppl don't have enough money that's why we not risking enough....yes it's true it start small, in my whole life I think I only gambled 3 times and it was for fun the highest was 300 I could not beyond that. You cannot bet more than your means that is wrong.....I'm n9t judging anyone I'm just saying coz I heard one of the guest saying we not gambling more coz we don't have enough.
It is not appropriate to blame the casinos or online betting platforms for one's own irresponsible behavior. It is important to take responsibility for one's actions and seek help if necessary, rather than attempting to shift the blame. The consequences of one's mistakes should not be used as a justification for shutting down an entire industry. You knew the payouts for 36/1 bet with R500 on the number and several splits but didn't know the consequences?
I think it’s best to do a bit of research and pull out stats. When you say “the majority” and “all people I’ve ever met”, that doesn’t say anything. Pull out the stats that will support your statements. Just some input to give some weight to your opinion. Same for the professionals who featured on this episode. I would have liked to hear how many people become addicts vs the number of people actually frequenting the casino or gamble. I do agree there needs to be more education on gambling and its dangers but it remains an individual choice to be responsible in their conduct. Otherwise, everything on this earth will be banned because some people surpass acceptable limits. As in the case of most addicts, they don’t stop until they reach rock bottom. There isn’t much one can do to get them out until they choose to get themselves out. Watch drug stories and listen to how far people will go for a fix. You even need a court order to institutionalise someone and guess what they do when they are released? You guessed it… relapse. Whether we like it or not, the final decision and hard work of recovery needs to come from the addict and nobody else.
Exactly I mean we can all argue that we know people that are alcoholic but we see alcohol adverts I mean South Africans glorify alcohol so what about that ….THIS IS MORE OF ADDICTION than it is about gambling because even I can argue that everyone I know that drinks alcohol is an alcoholic so nje
