His parents seemed to care more about his brother who kept getting into trouble, and his parents didn't really care that much about him. So he left and lived at a friend's house where they supported and loved him as family. Only when he became well known and famous did they want him back in the family and care about him. We may not know everything, but he has the right to his own money and who he gives it to.
