Armed with our tickets, which cost around $10 per person for a reserved seat, we embark on a three-hour adventure spanning 60 kilometers.
While a car journey might be more convenient, this train ride is an absolute must-do when visiting Sri Lanka. The reason behind its immense popularity is clear - the lush tea plantations, cascading waterfalls, and misty mountains create a truly immersive experience. It's no wonder that this train ride has become a sought-after Instagram spot, with travelers like us eager to capture the perfect shot.
Speaking of Instagram-worthy moments, we share a humorous encounter during our first-class train experience. Although capturing the ideal photo seems nearly impossible, we learn of one particular stop where leaning out the window grants the perfect opportunity. While we may not win awards for the most Instagrammable photo, the laughter and joy we experience make it all worthwhile.
One of the most precious aspects of travel is the connections we make along the way. Through chance encounters, we met a wonderful group of women from Lebanon who were eager to spend time with our kids. This unexpected friendship led to an impromptu Arabic lesson, where our children learned how to write their names in Arabic. These small but meaningful experiences demonstrate the power of human connection and highlight the beauty of embracing different cultures.
As we continue our journey, we unravel the true essence of travel - breaking down barriers and forming connections with people from diverse backgrounds. It's incredible to witness how small and interconnected the world becomes when we open our minds, hearts, and mouths to embrace the beauty of diversity.
Our adventure doesn't stop with the train ride. We venture further into Sri Lanka, exploring the vibrant city of Ella. With our penchant for last-minute plans, we remain open to spontaneous changes and new discoveries. This flexibility allows us to learn from locals, discover hidden gems, and tailor our experiences to the richness of the destination.
As we venture to our homestay, we navigate through picturesque roads and pass by captivating waterfalls. Our destination is a hidden gem nestled on Waterfall Road, recommended by a fellow traveler we met on the train. This unique accommodation offers a chance to connect with a local family, learn from their traditions, and indulge in homemade breakfasts. Homestays are not only affordable but also provide a truly immersive cultural experience.
Our homestay experience becomes even more memorable as we bond with our host's two delightful daughters. Their infectious energy and laughter bring us closer together, creating unforgettable moments. We invite them to join us as we explore the enchanting nine arches, a place that has captivated Instagram users worldwide. Despite the rain, we make the most of our time together, giggling and playing along the bridge.
Traveling with children has its challenges, but the joy and wonder they experience are truly priceless. Our kids form a special bond with the local girls, reminding us of the beauty of friendship and the transformative power of travel.
As our journey comes to an end, we reflect on the magical moments we've encountered in the past three days. From the occasional misbehaviors to the unexpected surprises, we choose to focus on the positive aspects that enrich our travel experiences. Did you know that 2500 years ago Sri Lanka' s 6th king divided the city into quaters. One quarter was for the greeks. So ,i presume the greeks were a big part of the country. Also he made the first free health service in the universe and it was free for humans and animals.
