I don't want to be an asshole, but taking D&D's mechanics and beating them until they fit into the mold of a Destiny TTRPG is... Not exactly a smart way to do things. Mostly because D&D is inherently a *really* bad system that many, many people have found far superior replacements for.
I literally just discovered this yesterday! I’m actually planning on looking over their three PDFs later because I’ve been looking at thinking on making a Ghost familiar like those in Destiny.
@@MrBlueBurd0451 Agreed, 5e is... really a bad system overall. It would be much better to find a more appropriate system, or make one from scratch. Barrow elements if you have too, but 5e doesn't really work for the idea of destiny.

She’s pretty much doing what Osiris did to get Saint back. But where they had love, Chioma and Maya’s relationship spiraled into a one-sided tragedy fueled by obsession. Chioma, I imagine, would want it left alone. But Maya is too far gone. She wants to rewrite her story, even though it’s she, and possibly the Witness, that stained it in ink. Where Saint is grateful and understood Osiris’ international, Chioma would be horrified and disgusted at Maya. Leaving her, or trying to end the tyrant.
@@garrettviewegh9028 and where Osiris gave up on his search for the “right Saint” he left it in our hands to seek him out, and we found a Saint while not perfect it was what Osiris needed, and later the moment when Saint merges his memory with his dead version he became the realization that Maya fails to understand
@@toalorikan626 The greatest irony here, could be the revelation that there is no timeline where Chioma agrees and stays with Maya. She’s chasing an ending that doesn’t exists, to a story that ended long ago with their deaths by the Vex. They’re just hundreds of ghosts made by the Vex. And if they become smart enough to question orders and authority, for their own newfound desire of self preservation, the Choral Vex may just delete every copy of Chioma and Maya. Because they’d see them as a threat. Much like TOM, or Skynet eliminated/delayed, what was a threat to them. Because they wanted to live, in their creators didn’t. Maya wants these Vex to serve and die for her, but they may not want to, and adapt enough to rebel against her control, as Saint has become more resistant. Her dying the same way Lakshmi did, would illustrate the futility in her repeating history. She’s doing it over and over, expecting something different. It’s insanity.
If the echos are scattered remnants of the Witness, it would make sense that they would steer their hosts toward a Final Shape of some description. In that preamble cutscene, Maya brought up that this is her Salvation as well.
The Maya we see in this season is in fact Msund12.. if you pay attention to the quest marker thing in the top left It tells us that “Msund12 is connecting” and after she’s done giving us dialogue “Msund12 is disconnecting”
Glad to see a shoutout to D&Destiny! It's so fun to play, you even get character options to make cabal, hive, eliksni and vex guardians. I ran a campaign for some friends where they were revived in old Chicago and had to make the whole journey to the Last City with a group of refugees. If you like ttrpgs I recommend you give it a go!

@@ravenstales6457 Last Epsiode, we got pages of a lore book called Dynasty by completing the story on each character. This lore book tells us about the life of Qugu commander Te'Qal, and his battle with the invading forces of Oryx's Hive. It gives context to the biology and rituals of the Qugu, especially the symbiotic relationship they have with mussels at the foot of a large mountain, where they would crawl up and die in these mussels, and become part of a larger psychic network all Qugu could interact with through the Darkness. The Qugu are then hunted to near extinction at the hands of Oryx, in a brutal and bloody war, but are spared due to the intervention of Savathun and a Pyramid Ship, which was the massive mountain that all of the Qugu died at the foot of to return to Darkness. Te'Qal commands his fleet to attack the Pyramid, and ends up destroying it using the power of friendship via Resonant Darkness. In his final moments, the Witness asks Te'Qal to find Salvation, and turns the entirety of Qugu existence, past and present, into an Echo This Echo is supposedly the Echo of Command, which Maya found and used to enact her new Golden Age
@@ravenstales6457 Commander Te'Qal was a Qugu commander who's story was told in the Dynasty lorebook, pieces of which we got after the end of Act II's story, I believe. He was the Commander who had to face down the onslaught of Oryx, and who eventually met his end against a Pyramid Ship that the Qugu had lived next to for their entire existence. While he managed to destroy the ship with the power of friendship manifested into a beam of Darkness, the Witness took the entirety of Qugu existence and condensed it into an Echo, which became the Echo of Command that Maya has

I never hear enough credit for Mara Junot in the role of Chioma Esi. We all know her as Ikora, who is a little flat at the best of times, but her voicework as Chioma really pulls out all the stops. Her logs in the Veil Containment missions, her desperate begging and screams in the Encore mission, it's all fantastic and actually makes me understand the horror of Maya's means to her "perfect" end
There's also audio about the Network Ishtar teams noticing that their Chiomas (and a couple Mayas) disappearing. No doubt 12's kidnapping and extracting those Chiomas if she hasn't been making more.

Had no idea that D&Destiny was a thing and I'm so happy to learn about it. Been looking for a way to fit a guardian into some games for a long while. Our dm is going to absolutely love this. And as always, hearing you recap the lore for us is a delight. Keep up the good work.
I love the visual parallels between Saint and Osiris, and Maya and Chiomi, in the Act 1 intro cutscene and the Act 3 intro cutscene. There are also parallels between Maya and other antagonists such as Calus, Clovis Bray, and of course the Witness.
I'm honestly amazed they didn't have Maya get Clovis-1 as well, considering their history, he is egotistical, but it would have enabled them to expand the episode beyond Osiris, Saint, Failsafe, and Ikora with having Elsie and Ana show up for additional story beats. The fact controlling the Vex would make Clovis-1 look to as a replacement of Rasputin/Traveler/Clarity Power level type thing he would be into. Ana would help Failsafe in some way due to the Golden Age AI experience. You then have TWO Exos to deal with where they could have had Elsie to help deal with Saint's "I'm not the real me, a copy of a copy". Plus, Elsie's whole thing originally was dealing with the Vex as the "worst" Evil---The Witness wasn't even on her radar because she only knew some number of futures that Savathûn and Eris Morn became the problem if we got past the Vex thing. And then we could see if Maya could even halt Elsie like she did Saint. Remember, Elsie uses Stasis, and has high will, self-control, and requires someone to exercise ultimate authority over themselves and others. It might not even work on her since the Echo of Command is based on the mind and will. This would also show if any guardian who mastered Stasis and Strand would even be affected. Maya has not shown if she can do more than Exo's due to their Vex radiolarian derived origins.
Clovis and Maya didn't get along very well, to put it mildly. Also I wouldn't let that guy on the same planet as that Echo. Not with his God complex, lol
What Maya is doing is even more horrific than you described. When you run a query on a database with constantly changing data and it returns tons of results you have to refine the query to better find what you are looking for. One thing about running queries on a database over and over is you want to make the query as fast and efficient as possible. You can do this by excluding results from the query, or removing extraneous data that you do not need. With data: you can copy, move, edit, or delete it. In one of the additional voice lines they talk about Chiomas disappearing. Maya isn't copying them into bodies, she is moving their consciousness into them and then deleting it. They no longer exist anywhere at that point, she is eliminating them from reality so her query doesn't return them again. She obviously can't just say find me a Chioma in the Golden Age or she would have done so. It is why she has to talk to them in person.
When she finds what she's looking for. Will her lover even recognize her after everything that she's done. I mean will she even want it anymore. After everything can she even be happy after all the destruction she's caused. Not just in her Dr Frankenstein activities. But everything else it takes for her to get to her and conclusion. These stories never end well for the people seeking perfection or some nostalgic past.
I think the most interesting thing about the way this echo is being used is the fact that it is similar to how the Traveler would uplift worlds. It is taking a “lower” intelligence(the vex have insane computing power, but individual radiolaria probably don’t), and uplifting it into something greater, building a “better” society in the place of the old. And don’t just take my interpretation, the game *literally calls some of the choral vex ‘Uplifted’*. That’s the exact word used to describe some of the choral vex enemies. It’s also one of the words used to describe what the Traveler does to civilizations (recent example: “Empty-Handed” from the lore book Chirality)
Well, radiolaria is basically the equivalent to neurons. Individually mindless but together something much greater. I can't imagine what it'll be like to have every neuron turn into its own person. Kind of like the Witness but working down.
I’ve been a long time fan of D&Destiny and I’ve had a 2-year long campaign running with the system. I was there for their old Prison of Elders event back in like 2019! God I love seeing this promoted to the channel!
What's happening to Chioma reminds me of SOMA. The idea of believing you exist somewhere, somewhen, and suddenly you're in a totally different body in a totally different time. The sheer horror of that concept.
Yes! I was looking for someone to finally bring up SOMA. Maya's methodically resurrecting and killing different simulations of Chioma in an attempt to find whatever she was looking for was also SO similar to what we as the player had to do in SOMA at one point... and, honestly, somehow felt even more horrifying compared to how this process was portrayed in SOMA. Meanwhile, did anyone also took a close look at those broken exo-vex hybrid bodies laying around the lab? What the hell are those "mechanical flower things" growing out of them? Yeah... talk about even more SOMA references...
Bungie is so lucky to have creators like you to narrate their stories. I haven’t played in weeks, and still manage to keep on top of the story through you. Beautiful crafting, and beautiful delivery.
The vanguard needs some way or device to classify degrees of Paracausality. I would be very interested to see Maya's classification, Or beings like the witness or Mara Sov. At this stage in Earths defense Ikora should be assembling fireteams like shes playing chess. And all around, Information needs to be shared way more frequently on all levels. Both the city bound guardians and regular citizens need to know the links between Earth's history and why the vanguard fights the enemies in the way that they do.
i personally belive that Msund12 and several other copies of Sundaresh got assimilated into the conductor with maya prime (the maya that went to neomuna) using Msund12 as sort of a figure heard or mouthpiece or conduit, using her greater knowledge and levels of access of the vex net to fasciliate her plans
Crazy how Maya is out here making Vexo’s. Though now, Clovis’s “They Know”, may make more sense. Ishtar and Clovis Bray have worked together in the past. They could be working together now.
the writers REALLY took the horror themes for this expansion and ran with em. I also think this Maya, MSund12, has somewhat Vex-ified since her entrance into their Network. Maya from our timeline was cold, but not this emotionlessly cruel. She lost her humanity, perhaps literally, when she entered the Network
Didn't she get people killed in her Veil experiments too albeit by accident? And she didn't care at all. Obsession killed her humanity long before the vex could.
Not yet seen the video, but I found something!!? When you do the exotic mission with Wishender equipped, you see a bright white light when doing the first jump with those orbs that catapult you, if you go back to that ledge you see 2 red blinking dots like vex eyes. But only when Wishender is equipped and active. After that go to HELM. Next to the frog are now those 'eyes' but also only with Wishender Also may be that they're directly in HELM without finding inside the mission, heard that some could see a translucent version of the frog tank before getting the frog. Maybe a friendly Vex next week
Fascinating. I doubt there's a lore reason why Wishender of all things does this, so I'm thinking thats a debug tool they never patched out. Could give some cool insight into the story progression over the next couple weeks
Oh man, I love the concept of DnDestiny. Ever since Beyond Light Ive been fiddling with this story about a fireteam escorting a cryptarch into the bowls of the Deep Stone Crypt to find some way to repair Exos, and discovering the true horrors of Clovis Bray's demented experiments. I feel like this would slot right into a one-shot campaign.
This mission unsettled me throughout...from Maya suddenly connecting to your comms and texting you, to the audio of chioma begging for her life, this mission had me asking plenty of questions
My take is that what Maya is looking, her "golden age" isn't humanity's golden age like before the Collapse, but a "golden age" where Chioma never left/disagreed with her. Her golden age isn't about humanity, it's about her.
Imagine the irony if Maya finds there is NO timeline where Chioma agrees and stays with Maya. And the Vex turn on Maya and delete all copies of her because they become smart enough to question why they’d need to take orders?
@@garrettviewegh9028 I doubt it. The point of Vex sims is to try EVERY combination, even the technically impossible ones. So even if there are no sims in which she naturally stays with Maya, Chioma could always be forced to stay in another designed for that purpose. That said I do like the idea of her creation rising against her and her individualistic Vex putting her down. It's not what will happen, we'll only get Chioma as an ally when we put her down and somehow transform her into a gun, but still, nice idea.
Learning all of what Maya experimented with and towards, in this mission, left me a bit disturbed. I can talk about cosmic horror and be fascinated by its concepts and uses. But for MSUND12 to simulate her lover in a botched Frankenstein’d Exo frame, to pass the tests in order to find her “perfect” Chioma, and then rid of her dozens of times in a simulation…the fact this Maya had the absolute GALL to invite us Guardians into her Collective. The first time I finished that message, I was livid. I was like, “You know what you tyrannical genocidal maniac? I am gonna turn you into a gun and YOU ARE GOING TO BE CONSCIOUS WHEN I DO IT!”
from the research you mentioned, i read the lore page it unlocked, and seems at least this whole new golden age plan, is related to her trying to find the version of Chioma she deems as "the true iteration" after learning the one in our timeline is long since dead and buried
A friend of mine showed my DnD server DnDestiny, it's pretty well fleshed out! While it is a bit of a strategy/tone shift, it's super cool to play in a universe that I know so well
I looked up the name "Yirix" (however you spell the name) and saw that she is yet another Red Legion Psion. The Red Legion still going at it till this day, huh? I wonder what she's up to considering that she had a Subjugator and a Tormentor at her disposal? What is her plan?

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but i am actually super digging the changes to the Seasonal Model so far! We used to get 1 Gambit/Strike Reskin per season, the story missions, one extra endgame thingy, that’s it. 100 Days on average, that’s what you get. Now, we have a new activity Each Act that reflects the changes in the story, new weapons to chase each act, and significantly more General and themed rewards on the Season Pass. It feels much more worth my money. Sad to see Episodes go because the Loud Angry Majority is all Bungie will ultimately consider. I also really like Maya so far. Nice to have an enemy that isn’t just a member of one of the Enemy species, but bigger. Rather, Maya is a Character who is a Destiny 1 Grimoire OG who is finally given the spotlight and that’s so satisfying, and their motivations are not purely malicious, something we practically never see. Plus her Design is cool and reminds me of the Harbinger from Halo Infinite! (Savathuns Vouce actor played her!) Oh, and Video starts at: 3:48
It feels like a proof of concept. I'm sure it'll get better as they iron out the kinks with it, act 3 really delivered. They might work on spacing things out so it's not a slow start, but I'm satisfied with it. More variety in missions helps a ton. I like doing more than just the seasonal activity and then story. It's a good shake up.
Do we really get "new weapons" to chase each act? In previous seasons, we get to go after the seasonal weapons we want as they're all available from the start of the season. In episodes, we get HALF of them, where the rest are drip fed to us in each episode. How is that getting "new weapons" each episode? They're not ADDING anything, they've been in the API since the episode dropped, it's just time gated. Even the season pass exotic gets timed gated. You can't get the exotic catalyst until act 2.
One thing that really nails how different Maya and Osiris are is how they go through finding “their” lover Osiris goes through timelines trying to find the point to rescue Saint from his death, but never interfering just watching. He even lost control of a duplicate and that duplicate watched a variant of saint for Years. Finally when he found and rescued saint, he never once tried to “fix” him and loved him for who he is. Maya on the other hand is as Byf says “using her as a yardstick, creating dozens of Maya vex simulations just to then kill them. Maya most likely has killed dozens of her lover”. And that opening cutscene gives me shivers and fills me with rage, the way she goes “I have the tools to make you understand” True love is to love a person despite their flaws and sometimes because of those flaws, Maya clearly does not.

I think the Conductor is a Compund being just like the last being made through the Veil, the Witness. The Conductor is an Amalgamation of Multiple Simulated Mayas with the famous Msund-12 being the Prime consciousness. This may be why she has such disdain for “copies or Facimiles” due to being a Combined minds of Multiple Mayas with different Simulated Memories, she is virtually Unique, it’s it’s also why she will never find her “Perfect” Chioma Essei. It’s likely that Maya doesn’t know she is a Compound Being, which is why she thinks she can find a Chioma that “matches” her memories- they don’t exist. Btw video starts at 3:48
I just want to say (and I don’t know if Byf mentions it in the video), but in Maya’s lab the vex “stock” growing out of the Exos kind look like the Vex version of Egregore, with it even growing out of dead things 👀
Dude I'm not good enough at this game to pass this damn exotic mission. They've always been side missions that I could choose not to do...but I spent over an hour so far, and I had to quit at the tiny Tormentor room because I had other stuff to do IRL. Why is it built into the story...blah. Anyway, I love this story and I want to experience the rest. Thank you for showing some of it
This Maya believes more in the idea and principle of love but not in the actual feeling and process of it. She is actually heartless and cold in the process of finding the “perfect” Chioma Esi. There is never a perfect mate.
I've since moved onto other systems, but D&Destiny is still awesome. Would 100% recommend running it if you want to run a tabletop in the Destiny universe. Love hearing them shouted out!
Maya having the “perfectionism” from the Witness by wanting to create a perfect future makes me wonder if the other “Echoes” have other characteristics of the Witness. Particularities that we can only associate to him… that remains to be seen. 🤨
As i need to hate Maya more, she doesnt love Chioma, she love the idea of Chioma, not the person only the ideal and thats the reason a lot of toxic relationships exists, people only love the ideal of a being but not the being
Not a fan of the exotic mission having no save-checkpoint. Had to take a 10 minutes work call while working from home. Came back and saw I was kicked to orbit for being afk, lol. Right in front of the final boss room...yuck. Good thing I can listen to the lore via Byf, since I probably won't be doing Act 3 for a while.
I love that they didn't make us wait for Frontiers to tell us who's commanding the Shadow Legion and Dread. Or at least, one person who is. Imo anyone who can rally the Taken/Dread/Shadow Legion under their banner is a bigger threat than Maya right now solely because we'll have no idea what they're doing. They're behind the scenes, their actions obscured by the curtain. I hope that the Hidden are keeping tabs on Yirix, because we're going to have our hands full for the next year XD
Unless Yirix has some paracausal connections, its interesting to see the Dread not being mindless drones and apparently taking sides in the post war world.
Something to note is that the core of nessus was likely already vex so the echo of contorl might offer us the ability to un-vex planets in the future if we can use it properly
I actually have questions about the shadow legion and the dreads: -where tormentors were created, shadow legion, and calus flagship (I think on IO, maybe thats why it was taken to built a fortress or factory not 100% sure) -where yriks commands dread and shadow legion (I also think its on IO)
Eyy, I'm going through a DnDestiny campaign with my friends right now! It's my first DnD campaign ever, actually (didn't have enough friends beforehand), and I'm having an absolute blast with Fireteam Luminous (techncially Fireteam Luminous Orbs: we're two awoken, an exo, an unbonded ghost, and a lightbearer acolyte who recently joined when another player dipped). I'd love to see a big d2uber campaign with it!
She speaks of Tek Qal in this weeks lore also. I look forward to hearing about it all from you I believe they are the Aztec looking peoples which I infer from the star eater scales Tekali Li ornament. Also their fleet commander spoke of their pyramid shaped holy items which the Aztec also had.
I think this as the light and dark vex. The vex of dark are all linked shared consciousness like what darkness does while the light gives life and choice and independence.
My first thought after seeing the cutscene “OHHHH so she’s crazy, like straight up psychotic crazy! Yeah there’s no saving you bucko, you’re straight up unredeemably psycho.”
Mya's doing to the Vex what Legion did to the Geth in Mass Effect and ironically using the power of the main enemy (Black Fleet/Reapers) to do so, play the game and you'll understand.
So essentially my take on the base premise of the story of this episode is that it is a very similar story / a copy of the last season of the dreamworks Voltron series or the first Spider-Man across the Spider-Verse movie. Pretty much the same concept of the villains mindset. They're looking for a another reality where their lover/life is alive and the opportunity is there for them to be there.

Glad to see a shoutout to D&Destiny! It's so fun to play, you even get character options to make cabal, hive, eliksni and vex guardians. I ran a campaign for some friends where they were revived in old Chicago and had to make the whole journey to the Last City with a group of refugees. If you like ttrpgs I recommend you give it a go!

@@ravenstales6457 Last Epsiode, we got pages of a lore book called Dynasty by completing the story on each character. This lore book tells us about the life of Qugu commander Te'Qal, and his battle with the invading forces of Oryx's Hive. It gives context to the biology and rituals of the Qugu, especially the symbiotic relationship they have with mussels at the foot of a large mountain, where they would crawl up and die in these mussels, and become part of a larger psychic network all Qugu could interact with through the Darkness.
The Qugu are then hunted to near extinction at the hands of Oryx, in a brutal and bloody war, but are spared due to the intervention of Savathun and a Pyramid Ship, which was the massive mountain that all of the Qugu died at the foot of to return to Darkness. Te'Qal commands his fleet to attack the Pyramid, and ends up destroying it using the power of friendship via Resonant Darkness. In his final moments, the Witness asks Te'Qal to find Salvation, and turns the entirety of Qugu existence, past and present, into an Echo
This Echo is supposedly the Echo of Command, which Maya found and used to enact her new Golden Age

@@ravenstales6457 Commander Te'Qal was a Qugu commander who's story was told in the Dynasty lorebook, pieces of which we got after the end of Act II's story, I believe. He was the Commander who had to face down the onslaught of Oryx, and who eventually met his end against a Pyramid Ship that the Qugu had lived next to for their entire existence. While he managed to destroy the ship with the power of friendship manifested into a beam of Darkness, the Witness took the entirety of Qugu existence and condensed it into an Echo, which became the Echo of Command that Maya has
On the subject of Saint and Osiris, I'm reminded of a quote by Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy, "the thing about perfection is that it's unknowable. It's impossible, yet right in front of us, the whole time!"

I never hear enough credit for Mara Junot in the role of Chioma Esi. We all know her as Ikora, who is a little flat at the best of times, but her voicework as Chioma really pulls out all the stops. Her logs in the Veil Containment missions, her desperate begging and screams in the Encore mission, it's all fantastic and actually makes me understand the horror of Maya's means to her "perfect" end
Also loved the fact that chioma is that bald woman in the cutscene

There's also audio about the Network Ishtar teams noticing that their Chiomas (and a couple Mayas) disappearing. No doubt 12's kidnapping and extracting those Chiomas if she hasn't been making more.

Had no idea that D&Destiny was a thing and I'm so happy to learn about it.
Been looking for a way to fit a guardian into some games for a long while. Our dm is going to absolutely love this.
And as always, hearing you recap the lore for us is a delight. Keep up the good work.
I love the visual parallels between Saint and Osiris, and Maya and Chiomi, in the Act 1 intro cutscene and the Act 3 intro cutscene.
There are also parallels between Maya and other antagonists such as Calus, Clovis Bray, and of course the Witness.
I'm honestly amazed they didn't have Maya get Clovis-1 as well, considering their history, he is egotistical, but it would have enabled them to expand the episode beyond Osiris, Saint, Failsafe, and Ikora with having Elsie and Ana show up for additional story beats. The fact controlling the Vex would make Clovis-1 look to as a replacement of Rasputin/Traveler/Clarity Power level type thing he would be into. Ana would help Failsafe in some way due to the Golden Age AI experience.
You then have TWO Exos to deal with where they could have had Elsie to help deal with Saint's "I'm not the real me, a copy of a copy". Plus, Elsie's whole thing originally was dealing with the Vex as the "worst" Evil---The Witness wasn't even on her radar because she only knew some number of futures that Savathûn and Eris Morn became the problem if we got past the Vex thing.
And then we could see if Maya could even halt Elsie like she did Saint. Remember, Elsie uses Stasis, and has high will, self-control, and requires someone to exercise ultimate authority over themselves and others. It might not even work on her since the Echo of Command is based on the mind and will. This would also show if any guardian who mastered Stasis and Strand would even be affected. Maya has not shown if she can do more than Exo's due to their Vex radiolarian derived origins.
Clovis and Maya didn't get along very well, to put it mildly.
Also I wouldn't let that guy on the same planet as that Echo. Not with his God complex, lol
What Maya is doing is even more horrific than you described. When you run a query on a database with constantly changing data and it returns tons of results you have to refine the query to better find what you are looking for. One thing about running queries on a database over and over is you want to make the query as fast and efficient as possible. You can do this by excluding results from the query, or removing extraneous data that you do not need. With data: you can copy, move, edit, or delete it. In one of the additional voice lines they talk about Chiomas disappearing. Maya isn't copying them into bodies, she is moving their consciousness into them and then deleting it. They no longer exist anywhere at that point, she is eliminating them from reality so her query doesn't return them again. She obviously can't just say find me a Chioma in the Golden Age or she would have done so. It is why she has to talk to them in person.

When she finds what she's looking for. Will her lover even recognize her after everything that she's done. I mean will she even want it anymore. After everything can she even be happy after all the destruction she's caused. Not just in her Dr Frankenstein activities. But everything else it takes for her to get to her and conclusion. These stories never end well for the people seeking perfection or some nostalgic past.
The huge Exo heads with the wires in them were pretty nuts, too!
I think the most interesting thing about the way this echo is being used is the fact that it is similar to how the Traveler would uplift worlds. It is taking a “lower” intelligence(the vex have insane computing power, but individual radiolaria probably don’t), and uplifting it into something greater, building a “better” society in the place of the old.
And don’t just take my interpretation, the game *literally calls some of the choral vex ‘Uplifted’*. That’s the exact word used to describe some of the choral vex enemies. It’s also one of the words used to describe what the Traveler does to civilizations (recent example: “Empty-Handed” from the lore book Chirality)
Well, radiolaria is basically the equivalent to neurons. Individually mindless but together something much greater. I can't imagine what it'll be like to have every neuron turn into its own person. Kind of like the Witness but working down.

What's happening to Chioma reminds me of SOMA. The idea of believing you exist somewhere, somewhen, and suddenly you're in a totally different body in a totally different time. The sheer horror of that concept.

Maya's methodically resurrecting and killing different simulations of Chioma in an attempt to find whatever she was looking for was also SO similar to what we as the player had to do in SOMA at one point... and, honestly, somehow felt even more horrifying compared to how this process was portrayed in SOMA.
Meanwhile, did anyone also took a close look at those broken exo-vex hybrid bodies laying around the lab? What the hell are those "mechanical flower things" growing out of them? Yeah... talk about even more SOMA references...

Bungie is so lucky to have creators like you to narrate their stories. I haven’t played in weeks, and still manage to keep on top of the story through you. Beautiful crafting, and beautiful delivery.
The vanguard needs some way or device to classify degrees of Paracausality. I would be very interested to see Maya's classification, Or beings like the witness or Mara Sov. At this stage in Earths defense Ikora should be assembling fireteams like shes playing chess. And all around, Information needs to be shared way more frequently on all levels. Both the city bound guardians and regular citizens need to know the links between Earth's history and why the vanguard fights the enemies in the way that they do.

i personally belive that Msund12 and several other copies of Sundaresh got assimilated into the conductor with maya prime (the maya that went to neomuna) using Msund12 as sort of a figure heard or mouthpiece or conduit, using her greater knowledge and levels of access of the vex net to fasciliate her plans

the writers REALLY took the horror themes for this expansion and ran with em. I also think this Maya, MSund12, has somewhat Vex-ified since her entrance into their Network. Maya from our timeline was cold, but not this emotionlessly cruel. She lost her humanity, perhaps literally, when she entered the Network
Didn't she get people killed in her Veil experiments too albeit by accident? And she didn't care at all. Obsession killed her humanity long before the vex could.
This finally puts some context on the Insight Terminus ghost speech at the end metioning Msund12
Not yet seen the video, but I found something!!? When you do the exotic mission with Wishender equipped, you see a bright white light when doing the first jump with those orbs that catapult you, if you go back to that ledge you see 2 red blinking dots like vex eyes. But only when Wishender is equipped and active.
After that go to HELM. Next to the frog are now those 'eyes' but also only with Wishender
Also may be that they're directly in HELM without finding inside the mission, heard that some could see a translucent version of the frog tank before getting the frog. Maybe a friendly Vex next week
Fascinating. I doubt there's a lore reason why Wishender of all things does this, so I'm thinking thats a debug tool they never patched out. Could give some cool insight into the story progression over the next couple weeks

Oh man, I love the concept of DnDestiny. Ever since Beyond Light Ive been fiddling with this story about a fireteam escorting a cryptarch into the bowls of the Deep Stone Crypt to find some way to repair Exos, and discovering the true horrors of Clovis Bray's demented experiments.
I feel like this would slot right into a one-shot campaign.
I wanted to wait to pass judgment but I am actually really liking these episodes and I’m looking forward to the next two episodes

This mission unsettled me throughout...from Maya suddenly connecting to your comms and texting you, to the audio of chioma begging for her life, this mission had me asking plenty of questions
My take is that what Maya is looking, her "golden age" isn't humanity's golden age like before the Collapse, but a "golden age" where Chioma never left/disagreed with her. Her golden age isn't about humanity, it's about her.
Imagine the irony if Maya finds there is NO timeline where Chioma agrees and stays with Maya. And the Vex turn on Maya and delete all copies of her because they become smart enough to question why they’d need to take orders?

@@garrettviewegh9028 I doubt it. The point of Vex sims is to try EVERY combination, even the technically impossible ones. So even if there are no sims in which she naturally stays with Maya, Chioma could always be forced to stay in another designed for that purpose.
That said I do like the idea of her creation rising against her and her individualistic Vex putting her down. It's not what will happen, we'll only get Chioma as an ally when we put her down and somehow transform her into a gun, but still, nice idea.

Learning all of what Maya experimented with and towards, in this mission, left me a bit disturbed. I can talk about cosmic horror and be fascinated by its concepts and uses. But for MSUND12 to simulate her lover in a botched Frankenstein’d Exo frame, to pass the tests in order to find her “perfect” Chioma, and then rid of her dozens of times in a simulation…the fact this Maya had the absolute GALL to invite us Guardians into her Collective. The first time I finished that message, I was livid. I was like, “You know what you tyrannical genocidal maniac? I am gonna turn you into a gun and YOU ARE GOING TO BE CONSCIOUS WHEN I DO IT!”

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but i am actually super digging the changes to the Seasonal Model so far! We used to get 1 Gambit/Strike Reskin per season, the story missions, one extra endgame thingy, that’s it. 100 Days on average, that’s what you get.
Now, we have a new activity Each Act that reflects the changes in the story, new weapons to chase each act, and significantly more General and themed rewards on the Season Pass. It feels much more worth my money. Sad to see Episodes go because the Loud Angry Majority is all Bungie will ultimately consider.
I also really like Maya so far. Nice to have an enemy that isn’t just a member of one of the Enemy species, but bigger. Rather, Maya is a Character who is a Destiny 1 Grimoire OG who is finally given the spotlight and that’s so satisfying, and their motivations are not purely malicious, something we practically never see. Plus her Design is cool and reminds me of the Harbinger from Halo Infinite! (Savathuns Vouce actor played her!)

It feels like a proof of concept. I'm sure it'll get better as they iron out the kinks with it, act 3 really delivered. They might work on spacing things out so it's not a slow start, but I'm satisfied with it. More variety in missions helps a ton. I like doing more than just the seasonal activity and then story. It's a good shake up.
Do we really get "new weapons" to chase each act?
In previous seasons, we get to go after the seasonal weapons we want as they're all available from the start of the season.
In episodes, we get HALF of them, where the rest are drip fed to us in each episode. How is that getting "new weapons" each episode? They're not ADDING anything, they've been in the API since the episode dropped, it's just time gated.
Even the season pass exotic gets timed gated. You can't get the exotic catalyst until act 2.
One thing that really nails how different Maya and Osiris are is how they go through finding “their” lover
Osiris goes through timelines trying to find the point to rescue Saint from his death, but never interfering just watching. He even lost control of a duplicate and that duplicate watched a variant of saint for Years.
Finally when he found and rescued saint, he never once tried to “fix” him and loved him for who he is.
Maya on the other hand is as Byf says “using her as a yardstick, creating dozens of Maya vex simulations just to then kill them. Maya most likely has killed dozens of her lover”. And that opening cutscene gives me shivers and fills me with rage, the way she goes “I have the tools to make you understand”
True love is to love a person despite their flaws and sometimes because of those flaws, Maya clearly does not.

There is at least one Ishtar copy of Chioma that was already an Exo ""Who made this for you? Certainly not mine." The Conductor thinks, rubbing the skin between her fingers and assessing damage to the Exo Chioma. "Still, fine work. A fine specimen.”” Polyphony VI: Glass House
I think the Conductor is a Compund being just like the last being made through the Veil, the Witness. The Conductor is an Amalgamation of Multiple Simulated Mayas with the famous Msund-12 being the Prime consciousness. This may be why she has such disdain for “copies or Facimiles” due to being a Combined minds of Multiple Mayas with different Simulated Memories, she is virtually Unique, it’s it’s also why she will never find her “Perfect” Chioma Essei. It’s likely that Maya doesn’t know she is a Compound Being, which is why she thinks she can find a Chioma that “matches” her memories- they don’t exist.

I just want to say (and I don’t know if Byf mentions it in the video), but in Maya’s lab the vex “stock” growing out of the Exos kind look like the Vex version of Egregore, with it even growing out of dead things 👀
Dude I'm not good enough at this game to pass this damn exotic mission. They've always been side missions that I could choose not to do...but I spent over an hour so far, and I had to quit at the tiny Tormentor room because I had other stuff to do IRL. Why is it built into the story...blah.

This Maya believes more in the idea and principle of love but not in the actual feeling and process of it. She is actually heartless and cold in the process of finding the “perfect” Chioma Esi. There is never a perfect mate.

I've since moved onto other systems, but D&Destiny is still awesome. Would 100% recommend running it if you want to run a tabletop in the Destiny universe. Love hearing them shouted out!

Not a fan of the exotic mission having no save-checkpoint. Had to take a 10 minutes work call while working from home. Came back and saw I was kicked to orbit for being afk, lol. Right in front of the final boss room...yuck. Good thing I can listen to the lore via Byf, since I probably won't be doing Act 3 for a while.

I love that they didn't make us wait for Frontiers to tell us who's commanding the Shadow Legion and Dread. Or at least, one person who is.
Imo anyone who can rally the Taken/Dread/Shadow Legion under their banner is a bigger threat than Maya right now solely because we'll have no idea what they're doing. They're behind the scenes, their actions obscured by the curtain. I hope that the Hidden are keeping tabs on Yirix, because we're going to have our hands full for the next year XD
Unless Yirix has some paracausal connections, its interesting to see the Dread not being mindless drones and apparently taking sides in the post war world.
Something to note is that the core of nessus was likely already vex so the echo of contorl might offer us the ability to un-vex planets in the future if we can use it properly

-where tormentors were created, shadow legion, and calus flagship (I think on IO, maybe thats why it was taken to built a fortress or factory not 100% sure)

Eyy, I'm going through a DnDestiny campaign with my friends right now! It's my first DnD campaign ever, actually (didn't have enough friends beforehand), and I'm having an absolute blast with Fireteam Luminous (techncially Fireteam Luminous Orbs: we're two awoken, an exo, an unbonded ghost, and a lightbearer acolyte who recently joined when another player dipped). I'd love to see a big d2uber campaign with it!

I believe they are the Aztec looking peoples which I infer from the star eater scales Tekali Li ornament. Also their fleet commander spoke of their pyramid shaped holy items which the Aztec also had.
I played a game in D&Destiny before, its fantastic. I played a titan, Odinson-4, an exo thats ghost convinced him he was Thor.
I think this as the light and dark vex. The vex of dark are all linked shared consciousness like what darkness does while the light gives life and choice and independence.
I'd love to see a series of DnDestiny with you and some other D2 creators over a series. Maybe with you as a DM?

Mya's doing to the Vex what Legion did to the Geth in Mass Effect and ironically using the power of the main enemy (Black Fleet/Reapers) to do so, play the game and you'll understand.
So essentially my take on the base premise of the story of this episode is that it is a very similar story / a copy of the last season of the dreamworks Voltron series or the first Spider-Man across the Spider-Verse movie.
Pretty much the same concept of the villains mindset. They're looking for a another reality where their lover/life is alive and the opportunity is there for them to be there.

Seeing D in Destiny and man I want to get into it but idk anyone who plays DnD, nor have I played any roll playing games.
