  • STOP letting not having a yard prevent you from having the garden of your dreams and being able to source a portion of your food from your very own deck, patio, or pavement space. If you want to grow food for yourself or your family but think it isn't possible (or worth it) because you live in a small space, don't have land, or consider yourself a beginner gardener, the truth is, you CAN grow food and lots of it in a small space and in your spare time by starting with the right tools and considering container garden vegetables. If you want to maximize your growing space, your best option is to start growing vertically and being strategic about the types of crops you plant. In this video I share how I'm growing over 200 crops in just 10 square feet! If you want food fast, ditch the full size fruits and vegetables and opt for fast-growing organic hybrids which can take you from seed to harvest in 30, 35 or 60 days so that you can enjoy fresh food from your garden on the regular. In this video I share why I choose to garden in a GreenStalk vertical garden, the seeds that work best for small space gardeners and other products that enable me to have a successful garden. You can do this. Let GreenStalk give you a greenthumb!

    I love her!! We are renting a home and this is our 4th year container gardening. We have grown tomatoes, multiple pepper plants, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, green beans, snap peas, raspberries, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, onions, chives, lettuce, mustard greens, carrots, and a multitude of flowers for pollinators! It really is possible! I have chosen to use this time in a rental home wisely and learn to grow my own organic food, learn to cook from scratch, can and preserve my food, make
    Sourdough bread from scratch while we wait for our forever home. It’s been good for my soul. My children love it and look forward to it every year as well!

    • @Kelly_Mae
      @Kelly_Mae 10 місяців тому +5

      @@jrs3359 I used 5 gallon buckets. One watermelon plant per 5 gallon bucket. One cantaloupe per 5 gallon bucket. Or any other bucket that can fill with 5 gallons of soil or more. 5 gallons is a minimum for melons. I then bought a cheap trellis and let the canteloupe vines and watermelon vines grow up the trellis. I also successfully used a tomatoe cage for melon vines.
      As the melons grow and become heavy, we used a support like old pantyhose to cradle them, sort of like a tiny hammock.
      I grew smaller sized melon, around 5-6 lbs each.

    I’m a uni. student and rent a veggie patch from the city for a little under $100 a year. Saves me lots of money and I give away veggies to my relative who is over 90 yrs. old, which feels nice to be able to help them out finacially by gifting them veggies. It’s also nice to get in those extra extra visits to them. Seeds is something I save from the crops, so no need to head out and buy them anymore. It just feels so lovely to grow your own food❤

      Sometimes you gotta use your discernment. FOR ME, it's usually pretty clear which folks are a walking commercial and who is genuinely.... well.... you know. Sometimes you can even tell by the *type* of audience a person collects if their price has been met.😏Beyond that, they gotta do what they're paid to do.
      I took Me *ONE* of her videos to know what to expect here (without even having to sit through the whole thing), lol.
      I encourage finding ppl with "UNPRODUCED" vlogs (while you still can), like the original REALPEOPLE videos that BUILT utube. They aren't popular anymore and are deliberately hidden from most searches, but they never uploaded videos for popularity and I predict that they'll soon be the endangered unicorns with everyone becoming "manufactured" and signing up to be owned by sponsors. 🤣🤣🤣🤣And those genuine & unproduced gardeners will likely be the laaaaast sources of REAL information in this era of society.
      BUUUUT in all fairness, if you "love & appreciate" her channel, then My recommendation is not likely for you and I hope you continue to enjoy her content!
      Happy gardening!!

    She is right. It doesn't take a huge yard to grow tons of vegetables. Once you get it going whether in pots or plots, you'll find you are harvesting so much that you have to give some to neighbors, friends, work colleagues and more. If you know how to can, you'll have plenty for the winter months to get you through. And guess what? Gardening is so therapeutic for your mind and soul. For me the minute I put my hands in the soil, I feel at peace. It can't be explained, you just have to experience it. So get to gardening! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

    I love growing vertically and I have a yard. I can grow so much more vertically and leaves the land for fruit trees, berry bushes, a pond, chickens as well as a raised growing bed. By far growing vertically is the way to go if you really want to grow food.

    • @ajb.822
      @ajb.822 Рік тому +14

      Yeah. I DO encourage folks who are starting out on a small budget, to not worry too much about it tho, if you can't scrounge up much for free or cheap just yet to help you grow vertically. I grew up on, and my grandma raised 8 kids on, gardens with basically NO vertical growing at all ! Tomato cages, and not even great ones, were it ! I DO find lots of benefits to trellising things tho, so, yeah, if u can, try it ! Small sized winter squashes, cucumbers, melons ( cantaloupe), pole beans of all kinds, peas and tomatoes & tomatillas. It CAN be a bit tricky to avoid casting too much shade on nearby crops, so, watch for that, choose wisely ( there's tips on the internet for this topic).

    I bought a Greenstalk for my daughter in law as a starter for her. She, my son & granddaughter moved from CA to PA on July 2nd and she wanted to be able to plant something this year. I gifted her a planted out Greenstalk and it is thriving on her deck. She's already harvested peppers and has a bunch of bush beans just about ready. I was a bit jealous of her Greenstalk so i just ordered 2 for myself to supplement the 2 raised beds I have. Thanks for the inspiration.

As a beginner, dealing with containers and shooting from the hip, I knew I needed more information. One year I'd have everything I needed and a great harvest, and then another I'd have aphids and something else that killed everything...not to mention ground hogs and skunks. I was so discouraged and stopped for a few years. This may be the solution I need. Thank you!!!

    New subscriber here. I am from UK. Recently gave up my half plot at a local allotment site. Was becoming a chore to maintain but I still wanted to grow. So I have decided to grow at home in my small yarden, as I call it (a concreted yard area and a very small garden). I have bought 2 Green Stalk planters (only just been made available to a UK supplier). I have 2 mixed or combo ones. Have yet to set them up, but you have given me a lot of ideas. We are quite limited on what we can get over here, and no flash sales. Hence they are rather expensive in the UK, but I love the idea of them.

      Giiirrrrl, the CARROT CAKE JAM, is so addictive and I'll be making more of that in the fall when my folks come for a visit! I'm so happy you visit my kitchen and garden! By now you've figured out I'm a bit crazy, but I think its the good kind! I hope your garden is growing well! I'll be posting a pantry chat next weekend! "See" you then!

      Haha! No way?! Yup, I’m in a townhouse and we don’t have any grass out back. Until my husband retires from the Navy we’re gonna be planted here, and that’s just fine because it gives us time to slowly learn homesteading skills and make do with what we’ve got! I’ve gone Greenstalk crazy because it makes the most sense for my space and makes me feel like I’ve got my own little farm out back. I truly appreciate the compliment! I hope to have an acre or two one day!

    Hi Cassandra! I got my greenstalks this year after watching you early spring. I love them. I’m not able to get on the ground to plant so these planters are great. I’ve got peppers, strawberries, herbs, flowers, lettuces, and many other varieties. Thanks again! God bless!

    My question is what if each plant needs different watering schedules. Like if I’m planting an aloe vera plant which drowns easily with another plant that requires a lot of water, can I control how much water goes in each pocket or just each tier. Looking forward to a response 😊

I recently moved across the country and am starting my garden all over. I recently planted my fruits/veggies/herbs in container bags on my patio and just bought more bags. Then today this video comes across my feed lol… I’m thinking I’ll return the unused bags and go this route to yield a greater return! This video was thorough and very well done… thank you so much!

    Tell you what, your vertical gardens & plants are amazing & so you! Got to share this with my mom who had stopped planting in-ground veggie gardens due to losing all her crops (and tons of money!) to critters, poor soil and/or lack of rain. I got her to use buckets instead, which is successful & very convenient, but his idea of vertical gardening is genius. Thanks so much for sharing this brilliant idea! God bless you.
