the one thing that absolutely burns my toast is the belief (from mostly non-artists) that you HAVE to go to a fancy art school in order to be a good/successful artist. art school is EXPENSIVE and not everyone can afford to shill out 40k+ a year in order to get a “good” education (40k is actually the lowest price i’ve seen for in state tuition). there are so many public universities with equally good art programs, but a lot of artists don’t even consider those because they feel like they need to go to an ivy league art school

Ooooh, what really gets my goat is when someone stops themselves from drawing what they want because they are afraid it will be “edgy” or “cringy”, or worse, when an artist puts down someone for those reasons. LET PEOPLE DRAW WHAT THEY WANT! If they aren’t hurting anyone and just trying to draw what they like, who cares what you think? They didn’t ask for you to be a buttwad and call their work bad after they worked hard on it. We need to just let each other exist and enjoy each other’s work. To learn that if you don’t like it, you don’t have to look at it and that you don’t have to ALWAYS GIVE YOUR OPINION. lol

My pet peeve, related to Backseat Drawing, is the Art Career Counselor. It sounds selfish and close-minded, but I really don't like it when I get advice on how to make a living off of art from non-artists. It's usually something like "oh, that guy who made Garfield is successful, maybe you could do something like that" or "hey, I've got this great business model idea for you." I know they're trying to help, but most of the time, they don't know what they're talking about - they aren't artists, they've never worked in the industry, and they can't name more than 10 living artists. Plus, these Counselors hardly ever ask what kind of art I want to make.
Anyway, nice video! I like the big floppy ears on your vtuber model!

I have a lot of artist peeves. I'll try not to include the same as yours but here are a couple of mine...
    1. ART THIEVESSSSSS
I just want to post my art because I'm proud of it, not for you to steal it!!
    2. When people assume you know every FORM or KIND of art just because you can draw one thing
I can draw people mostly in a manga-ish type of style. I can't do very good realistic drawings and I can't draw houses at all! Also, just because I can draw doesn't mean I automatically know how to sculpt or something...
    3. "Why do you only draw girls?"
I'm more experienced with the anatomy of women and I do draw men as well, they just come off a bit weird!!
    4. "How do you draw!?"
IDK MAN my response to this is always "I just touch the paper with my pencil and a drawing appears"
    5. When people assume all.. uhm.. *corn* artists are bad people
People that draw rule 34 or anything related (Of characters 18+ ofc) aren't bad people. It's something they like to do. This is similar to thinking pole dancing is sexual. It isn't! It's a sport!
    6. "Why does your OC look like that?"
Not all of my OCs are humans, not all of my OCs are supposed to look like humans. There is no rule saying I have to draw humans or normal people. I can make a crocodile, cat, mouse and parrot hybrid! Who cares?!
    7. Bad art advice
"To become better, just practise!" well, how do I practise exactly?
    8. "Did you draw that!?!"
No. Somebody put an art piece in front of me.
    9. When people put down others to make someone else seem better.
I've had somebody put down my friend's art in order to make mine seem "superior".
    10. "Can you draw my OC?"
Similar to "Can you draw me?!!" but this one is a bit more annoying because of something that has happened to me. My friend wanted me to draw her OC and I thought nothing of it. I drew the OC and called her over. She got mad at me because I forgot to add a little ponytail she had in her massive locks of hair. The truth is, I didn't even see the ponytail lol. If you can't handle people drawing your OC in a wrong way or forgetting a detail, then draw it YOURSELF!!!
    Hope I didn't sound *t o o* angry!

  • @TheCrisisCollective

What I hate about *some* parts of art communities is when somebody is harassed for an art piece and then for no reason at all people start assuming and spreading rumors that have nothing to do with the art, like assuming that they're racist or homophobic. It's dumb. And then there's doxxers and trolls.
Also, the tenth pet peeve is so relatable to me. I get kind of expected to show my family my art otherwise I'm assumed to be drawing borderline porn. It's like I'm just supposed to ignore my self-consciousness lol.
But leaving that topic behind, I absolutely love your art and how pretty/cutesy it is. When I'm in the mood to draw or just wanna chill and listen to someone talk, your channel is one of the first I come to. Keep up the good work. ^^

Wow, I love your art. The lineart is so clean and cool.
I think it's really annoying when people say their art is bad just for attention. I don't understand why they post it if they really don't like it.
Well sometimes, rarely, when I don't like my drawing but I still want to post it, I try to say it in an optimistic way. I understand that that drawing doesn't look as good as my others and I can see what mistakes I made. Shrug. I never try to fish for compliments like them. Whenever I want compliments, it's usually on drawings that I personally liked.

I remember i saw a normal fb post with comission prices (mind you, it was on the own artist's page) and somehow the comments were FULL of other artists belittling the artist's work and self promoting by saying stuff like: "wow 20 dollars for that? And i charge 5 for something like this lmao [insert their unsolicited artwork]". Literally the price has nothing to do with ANYONE other than the artist themselve and the customer. If it's too expensive and ppl don't buy it bc it doesn't match the skill then it only affects the artist, if someone deems the price as an accurate one and buys a comission it only involves the artist and the costumer still. That whole situation was gross

For me; We have a critique chat in our art community - Theres tons of artists who draw different things and at different skill levels who come through, a lot of it is peer suggestion and not professional
Theres this one person in our community who bothers me; because there is an artist who is wonderful at making character illustrations; and anytime this artist puts in a work for feedback, the user goes ‘ITS PERFECT ART SENPAI YOU ARE JESUS *foaming at the mouth* TEACH ME UR WAYS FISHDHHD also the hand could be tweaked a bit to look more natural bUT YOUR ART IS THE NEXT JESUS PICASSO WHO’
And its like. **BOY** this is meant for criticism and youre out here worshiping this person and not really giving anything for them to work from? And they ONLY do it with this one artist, because every other person they get super nitpicky and specific. ough!!
Crit chats are for critiques!! Compliments are good but when you arent even!! Bringing anything to it whats the point luv!!

what really sullies my cereal, THE THING THAT REALLY BURNS MY BISCUIT! Is when people call art bad. It's one thing to call your own art bad, but when other people call others' art bad then that's when it's a problem. There is no such thing as bad art, art is whatever you want it to be, it's not someone else's job to " approve" your art and make sure that it's good enough.

The things I hate is when I see a older artist just beginning but they don't feel motivated cause they see talented kids. It also takes a bunch of talent for someone so far in life keep going, the saying "can't teach a old dog new tricks" but these people are still learning (I know they're not dogs but people, people might think of adults to be serious and already have their life figured and people might think that they can't or shouldn't do it cause they're not creative or whatever but I really wanna like seeing people far in life still try something new and I hate it when that makes them think that they can't do it for that reason in someway)

You post your art on tiktok and make one tiny mistake? You’ll get thousands of comments pointing it out in a not so nice way. You don’t even need to make a mistake, they could just not like your art for some stupid reason and they’d throw a temper tantrum about it. I had a grown man (I’m 21, but he was like 30 or something) tell me my art was “tumblr art style” which, it quite literally isn’t. And what was his art?     One of my pet peeves is artists who don't actually try to understand the nature of art/the art "world", and insist it's either;
    1. inherently valuable with no other attributing factors,
    2. that its a necessity for survival,
    3. try to block other creatives from opportunities because *insert some moral value related to their personal view of art*.
It's like, I understand, you like art, you like being an artist. So do I. But deluding yourself about the nature of what we do and trying to lash out at any perceived "attack" on your ego is not helping either of us succeed in our careers.

One of my gripes is when a fellow artist asks for tips, criticism, you take the time to show them, explain and correct what they asked, and they just.. don't bother to implement it, and then ask for corrections AGAIN on another piece and you look at it and it's the same issues as the previous piece

My biggest complaint about the art community, especially on TikTok is the blatant harassment towards young or less experienced artists. I deffinitely fell into the "I need Copics" craze in high-school lol. At the time, I was obsessed with smooth blends and soft gradients. I used mostly watercolor and lineart pens to make my works. But i wanted to be able to colour in class, on the go; stuff I couldn't do with my tube watercolors.
So for birthdays and Christmases I asked family for Copic sets. My aunt got me some randomized ones; soft green, soft blue, bright orange, dark purple, dark blue, and black. My nan got me a hair colours set which also works for darker skin tones. And my mom got me a skintone set. So basically, I could draw characters with limited colour palettes.
I was so excited I used them as soon as i got them, fell in love with the brush tip, swore I needed more and I was now a Copic artist for good and I was gonna build this huge collection.
I'm 20 now, still have the OG copics I got from people, and haven't bought any more myself lol. I'm a digital artist and when I work traditionally, it's just lineart and painting (sometimes watercolor sometimes acrylics) still. They're great markers and all... but they're expensive and in the end I'm not a marker artist. I never have been. I've always been really picky about my colours and markers just don't allow for the same mixing as paint, or colour wheel on digital. I just wanted them and loved them so much in HS because Tumblr and UA-cam told me they were the best thing ever and I NEEDED them. Like they'd make my art infinitely better, as though you can't achieve smooth blends with paint or pencil crayon; it HAD to be that brush tip.
Now all I use my Copics for is loosely coloring fashion sketches and concept images.

almost done with the video but i already agree with all of these!! especially the one about "needing to have 'Good expensive tools' to make 'Good art'"
now, i only just got a tablet with a stylus last year (june 2021 to be exact!), you wanna know how long i've been drawing for until then? 5-6 years!! when i was JUST starting out i used paint tool SAI with my MOUSE. i tried and used every high quality phone drawing app you can name-- sketchbook, ibispaint X, medibang, etc. i used to draw with my finger and an oldddd ipad, or my finger and just My Phone. and even then i still drew, grew my art, etc etc. like, i was able to draw and also able to IMPROVE my art, while the only tools i had were: any form of traditional art, AND my finger and some drawing apps.
you don't need expensive ass tools to make "good art", and you especially don't need them to improve, make fulfilling art, whatever your art goals may be!

2 art pet peeves of mine is
    1. An artist being accused of changing the race of a character because of their color palettes. I've seen a lot of artist being accused of being racist or changing the race of a character intentionally when in reality they just have a color palette that makes it seem that way. Like the colors of the characters outfit and hair are even changed a bit because that's due to their palette. For example pastel palettes. They use, obviously, pastel colors. And pastel colors are lighter than any solid color, because that's what pastel is.
    And
    2. People saying when an artist hates their art they're a "pick me" because they see their art is amazing. An artist will never like EVERYTHING they draw. Even if you may see nothing wrong with it's that's because you have a fresh pair of eyes. The artist has been looking at their own art style for a while. There could be things they see in the drawing they think could've been improved on and they're upset with themselves for not being able to draw what they invisioned, etc. There's way more too it than just on the surface.

Oh my the first one I completely agree with. This happens a lot when I look into the Gacha community. They make decent edits but it's still not there art or just bad art, yet they get overpraised with annoying comments in my opinion. Like some of them would be: you're such a queen, it's a master piece, ect. And then they gain all of these subscribers even though they barely post. It gets on my nerves so much, that sometimes I just got to hate the art because I hate stuff that is overrated and overpraised.

  • @harmoniass

another commenter mentioned it but when people feel the need to tear themself down or needlessly self critique while praising my art. i used to have a friend who would do this and it was absolutely draining because in all honesty i believed their art was better than mine, though that fact never bothered me. what did bother me is how whenever i would send them a wip or a piece that i was proud of, they would respond with "wow *bunch of nice compliments which i really appreciated*" which would always ultimately devolve into "i could never hope to be as good as you" "my art sucks" blah, blah, blah.
that friendship ended up being draining for more than just that reason too.
seriously though, it isnt that hard to *just compliment* an artist. it isnt that hard to just say "this is nice, i really like how you did this." you dont need to put yourself down, you dont need to self deprecate, it makes the person or people youre speaking to deeply uncomfortable and draws them into a corner in which theyre forced to then drop everything theyre doing and make you feel better. its selfish, no matter the intention.

on one hand. I do agree about the unsolicited criticism point. It definetely can suck to recievie critisism when you're not looking for it. However, if you don't want to recieve criticism, in my opinion you just shouldn't be posting online. I only ever show my art to my friends for this exact reason. Once something is public to the internet, everyone is allowed to comment on it however they like, and I think they should be allowed to so long as they aren't hostile or rude about it. You just need to accept the consequences of posting stuff online and either stop doing it if the criticism is too much for you, or get better at ignoring it.

Some art nuisances I have experienced are, one, when someone doesn't understand the message or expression in the art.
I tend to make 'vent' or 'relatable' art most of the time since there has been lots in my head that I have not been able to let go of until 2018.
It can literally show a character doing something considered angsty and they can go, 'that looks cute/it's so good/you're a good artist' without even asking if I'm okay. Like, yeah if an artist draws something that you perceive as well done, then okay I understand that but if it has a specific message by its looks then it's slightly rude to at least not check up if the artist is okay. Hell even people get inspired by vent art (I make poetry too, so sometimes that even gets inspired by) and it can make the artist feel like a burden that the person pays no mind to their well-being.
Another thing that just bothers me sm is how they draw the male or female characters. The females sometimes have a big @ss or a big chest with such a dainty waist. With males, it's always that stereotypical 'buFFy tAlL 8'7 foOt stRaiGhT gUy'. If it's gay people or femboys, then they're stereotyped as females.
Something so small like art can just cause so many nuisances and I just- I don't know if most people find it funny, cute or do it intentionally but it really can just burn my butter :/

    • @renstrism
      @renstrism 2 роки тому +2

Well, sometimes people don't understand the actual message of vent art, so I don't know what you're expecting. It's like not everyone gets math at all. And not everyone *has* to check up on the artist. Sounds a little .. needy..? Forgot the word. At least there are some people that are concerned. And on the second one, yeah, some people do it out because of stereotypes, but sometimes it's just how an artist draws a person. Yes, harmful stereotypes are bad, but you need to see if they're doing it on purpose or not. Believe it or not, some people just like to draw hot women/men.
Edit: on getting inspired from vent pieces, make sure you explicitly say that you don't want your work inspired. This will at least clear up a few headaches.

I forgot I commented this and like, yeah it doesn't make sense if you think about it

Man the saying, "I can't even draw a stick figure" is soo over used and I never know how to respond to that. I didn't ask for you to insult yourself to try and weirdly complement me somehow. Something that also gets on my nerves is when people try to compare a self employed artist's prices to a normal pay by the hour job. They usually say something like, "Well you have to think about what to minimum wage is and that's how much your art should be, by the hour". I hate that one so much, self employed artists are their own boss for that reason, no cost restrictions, you price what you think your work is worth. Though I do get that when your starting out and don't have much of a name yet and need to pay the bills, that you should lower price a bit. Another one you said that I agree with is the cursed fandoms ruining things. For me it's more related to music. An example, I have loved Mother Mother's music for years but the TikTok fandom that recently flocked to them ruined it for a lot of people, especially with the whole "Your not nonbinary if you don't like Mother Mother" thing. I'm all for new fans discovering things and being a little cringey at first but sometimes I think gatekeeping is allowed. Last one is when people tell me I have a gift, I'm lucky to be able to draw or they say something like, "Someone in your family must have been an artist and passed down the gene to you". They totally don't understand that I have been practicing a skill for years and didn't come out the womb wanting to draw.

In the case of Clip, it is frequently updated, has a huge user made database of brushes, has a lot of good features and support. Ad free. Considering all that and the money made from people using the program, I find the prices to be pretty fair! An alternative you could use is Paint Tool SAI but it doesnt have all of the features, and I think its considered "deadware" or something because its no longer supported/kept up with/updated. There's Ibis Paint for mobile but I am not an enjoyer of ads to use a drawing program
I get your feeling though, art tools are expensive T_T hundreds/thousands of dollars if you want to go traditional

@@Yukibunns well luckily Clip studio has a lot of sales but I missed the last one so I’m just constantly waiting for the next one lol I have heard good things about the program which is why I would like to try it for myself but I just can’t afford the standard price T^T
