    This is my fifth year after retirement. I’e been following the 4% rule thing I saw on a youTube channel, but this isn’t really how hard I expected things to be. After I cashed out a lump sum, I still have about $760k left, but at this rate, and with how the market is (we were putting money away in an index fund), I’m starting to get really worried.

      @jeromesand 9 днів тому +6

      Not a lot of people are able to save that much in a lifetime. But now you are retired and depend on your investment, it’s best you redistribute your capital. To simplify the process, you could allocate your resources with the help of a financial advisor.

    • @Aaronduckstein49
      @Aaronduckstein49 9 днів тому +3

      I’m closing in on retirement, too, and I have benefitted so much from using a financial advisor. I didn’t start early, so I knew the compound interest of index fund investing would not work for me. Funny how I pulled in more profit than some of my peers who had been investing for many years.

    In 2019 we sold our house in Austin, Tx, made a good profit, and moved to my wifes Homeland, the Philippines. We had decided on where we were going to live, in a cooler area, and with our daughters and her husband, we found our home, out in the country. We paid cash and also bought a new Pickup Truck. I am glad we did when we did. Life here is cheaper, and more laid-back. We have found our little Paradise here.

      I give you credit for that; my husband and son are not enthusiastic to go to the Phils. even for a vacation. I myself, I can't live there b/c of very hot weather, some inconveniences and not so good healthcare although we built a pretty big house in the Phils. We love the weather here in NY and between the two us, we're ok w/ our pensions.

      @@jingwills6267 I can understand about you and your families doubts about living in the Philippines, It's not for everyone. We had found a place wheere the weather was to my liking. Temperatures here are usually in the 70's and 80's for most of the year. The traffic is horrible. But the beaches are beautiful along with the Mountains. We have an active Volcano nearby, but it is one of the most scenic areas in the Philippines. I have been travleing around the Philippnes for over 25 years and I found the people here to be somie of the friendlest people in the world, and the hardest workers too. I love it here and my wife has family nearby so she is very happy too. Thanks for watching and hope you will continue to watch as I try to show what its like living here. If you and your family ever decide to come for a visit, please feel free to come by our place and we will show you around.

      The money is going to subsidize large corporations, such as oil and gas companies, not immigrants. Large companies are paying millions of dollars in salaries and bonuses to executives, while refusing to pay workers livable wages and raising prices to be able to pay those executives. That’s why 1% of the population has more money that the other 99%. Stop blaming the poor and immigrants and start putting the blame where it belongs, on the ultra rich who probably don’t pay as much income tax as you.

    I am in my early 60s and retired at 53. Lots of people gave me pushback because they had difficulty grasping the concept of not working if you don’t have to. I looked at my life as stages. I earned everything I have now through a lot of hard work, but I owe it to myself to “stop and smell the roses” in my final stage of life. In my case I left the country after I retired and live in Latin America. It allowed me to get away from all the negative things happening in America while appreciating my new environment. I have yet to meet anyone who regrets retirement.

      Nice way to retire. For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I has spent same number of years in the civil service, she is investing through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning towards having our retirement.

Not catching up with her profits over the years, but at least I earn more. I'm making money even before retiring, and my retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.

    What did y’all expect after a global pandemic and all the aid given.. I’m an adult disabled survivor I don’t get welfare…. I’m maintaining.. and I
    Don’t live higher than my benefits.. my rent alone is $900 a month , plus utilities and food.. it is what it is but being I was born disabled I know how to live within my benefits.. I wish I had huddled housing but I don’t like being restricted .. do I have a small emergency fund? Yes.. how I save something out every check I get…no matter how small and I don’t touch it.. if I need groceries the last week of the month I can go buy it.. the average person doesn’t even have $500 in savings on these benefits.. but they gave you stimulus money.. but our checks didn’t stop… .. but millions lost their jobs, life,and homes, and we complain millions are worse off…. At least you still have benefits coming in.. idc about cola if it’s $10 I’ll
    Save $5.. and that’s just that… .. we can’t complain if the money wasn’t paid in while working or on SSi benefits because SSi is a need based program so being so it comes from the general fund not the ss fund there is big difference in how the two benefits are ran different.. there is nothing we can do.. we got all these SSi over payments somehow so until they resolve that no more money needs to be issued.. I think something positive will happen to ss but not immediately .. but think about it… not all of us on benefits live below poverty level .. even some survivors don’t.. I’m one of these folks, I don’t qualify for welfare benefits.. they cut my check ok but trust me there will be more that will qualify for the extra help .. so it’s going to cause a domino effect.. one way or the other.. they can either raise social security or put more into the general fund.. if not the homeless population will rise because those of us paying fair market rents will continue to have increases .. I’m living it now…. And with inflation comes rent increases..

      SS benefits were never intended to provide everything for retired people. If you look at the SSA's web site, they have been explaining this for the last 60+ years: SS benefits are
      a "supplement" that enhances your savings and pension / retirement plan. They speak of the "3-legged stool", with SS benefits, savings, and pensions as the 3 legs. Despite
      their best efforts to explain this, way too many people get near retirement or already in it before they get it that THEY are responsible for 2/3 of what they need to have in
      retirement. Yet people continue to approach retirement with very little in savings and a small pension at best. I'm not sure what the US Gov could do to change this. Some
      people plan for retirement while others basically ignore it until it is too late to do much about it. A long time ago, I read a quote that really opened my eyes about retirement
      planning. It read, "He (or she) who fails to plan, plans to fail." I took that quote to heart, especially as it applies to retirement and planning for it. Sadly, all too many do not.

    What I see is that I worked and had all of my credits reported all of my earnings and unfortunately when my mother passed away as well as my dad passed away there was nothing no 250 no nothing, if my mother hadn't been able to at the tail and receive what she should have been getting all along from The railroad retirement board and veterans widow's benefits I literally would not have been able to bury her how many millions of people out there are like that and are petrified and scared some have no one and some have those who they wish would wake up from their dream when you receive assistance they are literally are not supposed to tell you that they take 10% of your social security every check you get when worker accidentally didn't know that they weren't supposed to say that, well when they say the average retiree receives 1900 that must be in another galaxy because it certainly not this one I was getting at least 300 now they're taking 154 out of that so maybe I'll be able to each month enjoy a good meal and some milk coffee and bread

    I receive a combined SS and a local European version of that. I don't get the full SS amount as it was reduced by some $300 per month several years ago since I was combining it with my EU version. If I were to return to LA today, I would be living in a tent on the streets with money in my pocket to eat well. Where I live in Europe as one in retirement for the past 5 years, I have a nice small apartment with a balcony, in a quiet area, about 300m to the forest, can go on vacation, as well as save ca. 25% of my monthly retirement benefits. Not to forget, full medical coverage as well, prescription drugs at a cost of €7.10 per drug no matter what the official cost for the drug is. Been living in Europe for 30+ years. Have now lived on 4 continents in 6 countries and on an island.

    Some come out of retirement at 67 because you can earn more without being penalized. The Government doesn’t want you to earn more than $22,000 from 62-67. Probably more advantages to getting Obamacare as cheap as possible anyways. Guess we can apply for Medicare at 65. No benefit to earn to much. Live on the cheap…Uncle Sam wants it that way. Thanks for your videos.

      @@charleswatkins9554 We should quit balancing our national budgets on the backs of retirees depending on a fixed income like Social Security. Instead we should cut the salaries of all members of the Senate and Congress. Also no more foreign aid to other countries. Our politicians are a bunch of thieves and liars who steal our tax dollars for their own personal gain. It’s not their money to give to other countries at our expense. Most of them belong in federal prison. If we did as private citizens. We would spend half our lives in prison? If they would repay what they have stolen from the Social Security Trust fund over the past 60 years. The trust fund would remain solvent for the next century and possibly beyond? If Congress and the Senate ever decide to gut and abolish Social Security? We should remember to vote out the key Politicans behind such action. Plus get a ballot measure on the national ballot to strip of their government Retirement benefits. The apply term limits and force them to go out and get a real job,where they have to save for their own retirement like most of us.

      @@charleswatkins9554 They should change how the Cola is calculated to reflect the real cost of living including inflation? Some years we get zero Cola raise,but our Medicare premiums and everything else like Rent and food and other essentials. Like the minimum wage law. There should be at least a 5% minimum Cola raise each year. I’m disappointed in FDR for not writing the SS bill much better to make our trust hands off and off limits from being tapped into for other uses,by politicians. The contributions we make in FIACA taxes is our money and. Should be untouchable for use other then paying out benefits. Politicians and Diapers should be changed often and for the same reason. Mark Twain most of them are full of shit.

    I was forced to retire several years ago. My private retirement money was stolen after about the time if my forced retirement, all that I have to survive on is social security. The maximum unemployment is roughly $3,700 a month, my monthly social security benefits are less than half that amount ! Something is drastically wrong with this country ! I don't know where these statics are coming from because the cost of living has increased 315% since January 1st to present day ! I cannot afford to go to the doctor or afford medication that I need ! I have had 9 heart attacks, how am I supposed to go back to work ?

    My auto and home owners insurance has increased by 16 percent in the past 2 years without any claims or coverage request .Groceries across the board has increased app 5-7 percent in the past 12 months . Utilities averages out at 4 percent increase in last 12 months. What must be done and should have been done from day 1 is to follow a new basis and formula and be realistic in arriving at an annual COLA. I’m from the Midwest and located in the country . Check the data out ! Thanks!
