Ham Radio Auction Deals and Lessons Learned

I got some great deals on items at the Rochester Amateur Radio Association's annual auction in November 2023. My haul included the LDG AT-1000 PROII, Alinco DJ-296 and ICOM IC-32AT. I also learned a valuable lesson when buying older HTs.

You bet! The radio is built like a tank. It was from an estate too. And while I didn't know the silent key, I like to think that they're smiling up above knowing I'll do my best to make SOTA, POTA and satellite QSOs on it.

When I got my first HT, I weighed the 32AT vs the Yaesu FT-470, I went with the FT-470…

I'm not familiar with the 470 and will have to look into it. The Yaesu FT-4XR was my first. But now with the ICOM and Alinco, I finally have the holy trinity: Yaesu, ICOM and Alinco, LOL.

When some says "FULL DUPLEX" that means you can transmit and receive at the same time. You should have said half duplex...A common ham mistake for a new ham...:)

You made me triple-check, LOL. I'm looking at the manual right now and on page 37 it says it's "Full Duplex" and can simultaneously transmit on one band while receiving on the other. I checked before I bought it, I double-checked when I made the video and just checked again, LOL. If you do a quick Google search, you'll see plenty of others reviews confirming and the manuals as well.
