    Really good information. As a relatively new quilter, I learned a lot and appreciate the time you took to explain these different kinds of batting. I was guessing what to use with what little common sense I have. Thank you very much.

    I'm looking to use batting and a rather crispy material..

    I am making a mermaid and hexagon quilt and would like to after its done sewing to kind of bubble a little. I plan on having this on my bed. I am new to quilting and have no idea about batting. I would be using a regular sewing machine and would like to do some free stiching on it (I may get that part professionally done idk yet) what batting would you recommend?

    what about bamboo Batting?

    • @NancysNotions
      @NancysNotions  7 років тому

      Hi Kate! Good question. Bamboo batting is a rayon--which means that even though it's technically a synthetic, it's made from natural fibers and is therefore comfy and breathable. Plus, it's not as nubbly as cotton. :)
      We carry a great fusible rayon batting here:

    Does batting need to be prewashed?

    • @NancysNotions
      @NancysNotions  6 років тому

      Hi Geo'De Crochet,
      No you do not need to prewash the batting. If you are making a quilt that will be used and washed several times, then we recommend prewashing your fabrics. The batting will adjust with the fabric as it is washed depending on the amount of quilting that is done to the quilt. Can anyone tell me which batting I should use with coasters, that will absorb condensation? I used 100% cotton and it's just so bulky. One lady I watched used 80/20, the other used the fusible, which one is best? Or should I just use felt? Please help, I'm new to sewing and 68 but I'm watching the tutorials, love them. Thanks in advance

    hi! i'm new to quilting. i have a few tucks in the backing caught in my machine quilting - i need to pick the stitches and re-do those little areas. how best can i do this successfully so the original stitches will hold but they won't be obvious on the top or back?

    • @NancysNotions
      @NancysNotions  7 років тому +1

      Hi Margaret!
      First, pick out the mistakes: go a little further with the picking than just the immediate area so you have a better time easing the tucks back in. Hand basting about a 1/4" from where you'll be quilting can help keep those tucks eased as you machine stitch--just pull the basting out when you're done.
      Then, start with a lockstitch about 1/2" over the original stitching (many machines have this feature--if yours doesn't, backstitch about 2 stitches to start and then stitch forward).
      Continue quilting in the picked out area, being careful to ease your tucks in evenly.
      End by stitching 1/2" over the other end of your original stitching and finish with a lockstitch or some backstitching.
      Does that make sense? :)
