It seems like very little people know where he's coming from. This man is amazing and deserves to be out on his own. Bon Jovi is still making amazing songs and Richie is in the midst of his own album.

I understand Richie says he miss his family but Richie you had a commitment with Bon Jovi Band and help your family I know you don't really the support of a huge family help you when life gets to you like Jon has a Big family support system to back him but I think you needed to talk to Jon as a brother not the boss and really trust his judgement and give him a chance and the other guys to help you at that point you pushed the true family you had out of your life when you really needed them ❤

My thoughts are that Jon Bon Jovi still sees the band as the machine it was through the 80's and 90's...relentless schedules, keep pumping out the hits, tour, then tour some more. Where Richie wants to slow down and appreciate the process. You can see / hear this in his first solo album Stranger in This Town. He wants to see / feel / absorb the process, while Jon is in hyoerdrive still wanting to make more money. How much money does one individual need? He wouldn't even slow down the machine while Tico was in hospital so he was down to two original members. For this reason, I don't think Richie will return. He wants to be a musician, not an act.
Judith Thompson , The Awesome talent behind his Guitar & those Soulful Vocals over 30something years ago, makes him eligible. He was part of the Originals. Doesn’t matter if he was hired last, way back then. The Band started forming in ‘83 & he was hired in ‘83. THE HITS HAPPENED. Richie was inducted WITH The Band in the R&RHOF, undeniably.
Obviously he went over the questions and didn't want to answer the hard part. I can''t understand how he justifies selling us tickets, but not showing up. A lot of us feel cheated and unappreciated. Then there's the question as to, why on earth would you mar the 30th. anniversary of a band you helped build??
In fairness to Richie, Jon could have waited 30 days to start the tour. For some reason in 2013 he started the tour full blast a month before the album came out. Makes no difference to the fans if its June or July when they come to town.

Wrong, Richie is not one of the founding members. If anything, the founding members are Jon, Hugh MacDonald, Tim Pierce, Roy Bittan, Frankie LaRocka and Jon's cousin that helped give him a shot at recording "Runaway" back in '82. It was well liked around town and in 1983, he joined with David Bryan, Tico Torres, Alec John Such, and originally Dave Sabo as the guitarist, but later picked up Rickie after being impressed with his skills and they recorded it together, eventually under the name Bon Jovi as suggested by Jon's cousin. Dave went on to form Skid Row in 1986.
Ummm, no. Jon got a session guitarist for Runaway. Bon Jovi hadn't even started before Jon asked Richie to join. He's not a founding member. I wouldn't call any of them founding members, only Jon.

They pay their respectful mutual royalties. Or it’d be Court. In other interviews, he stated: besides his daughter needing him, he HAD TO go thru Rehab. Or he’d be dead. I’m proud of him for making that important decision. And super proud that he didn’t put money above himself & his daughter & family. When the cookies crumbled, he moved on to a more satisfying Solo venue, where he has more control & autonomy. ❤️

doubleP I couldn't agree more! Makes me think that he is trying to pretend he isn't getting older like the rest of us are. I was so shocked when Jon was showing up at functions in '14 with a head full of gray hair. Not that it's a bad thing, the guy just keeps aging like a fine wine, something that Richie hasn't. I'm sure if they tour again he'll have it colored but I'm no better, I've been coloring my own hair for at least a decade. Growing old isn't for the weak, that's for sure. Hope you have a great week!

If he wanted to quit thats fine, but he could have at least carried on and finished the last 6 months of tour so Bon Jovi couldve finished on a high and the fans, like me, who paid to see him weren't let down. He's going through some kind of midlife crisis, trying to recapture the glory days with the rockstar outfits and solo touring for his ego.

Pavel Beloborodov I guess I won't be the first to tell you how incredibly wrong you are. Bon Jovi kicked ass with their "Because we can" tour in 2013. It was the #1 tour on the planet AGAIN, outselling the next 3 all together, one of them being the little puke from Canada (my sympathy to my Canadian neighbors who have to claim him) and Katy Perry. Google it and you will see. Richie was only missed for a short time once fans realized that Phil X was awesome. The guy even flew back home to be with his wife when she went into labor, welcomed his new baby boy into the world and flew back for the next night's show, still wearing his hospital bracelet. The guy is solid, they won't have to cover for him in rehab multiple times, and they won't talk shit behind his back just like they've done for Richie the past 30 years. Jon never said a single bad word about Richie, and he was asked repeatedly, people trying so hard to get some dark dirty secret from Jon. All Jon said is "personal reasons" and "You have to work". Nothing worse than that, and now you see who is the loyal one.

When your the guitarist and main co-writing partner in Bon Jovi you can relax and stop telling us you're not just Bon Jovi's side man. We get it, no one but you is worried about it or actually cares. The bottom line is that unless he wanted to live a completely different life, quit music, etc., then quitting Bon Jovi is just flat out crazy... Counseling and therapy is a lot cheaper and more effective then forfeiting your position in one of the most successful bands of all time just to deal with whatever unresolved emotional issues going on...

In fairness to Richie, Jon could have waited 30 days to start the tour. For some reason in 2013 he started the tour full blast a month before the album came out. Makes no difference to the fans if its June or July when they come to town.
Yep, even though Richie asked Jon if they could please NOT start it straight away, as Richie was in the middle of a solo tour, but no the 'Benevolent Dictator' (Jon's description of himself not mine) chose to ignore his mates feelings and do WTF he wanted anyway. If anything, the founding members are Jon, Hugh MacDonald, Tim Pierce, Roy Bittan, Frankie LaRocka and Jon's cousin that helped give him a shot at recording "Runaway" back in '82. It was well liked around town and in 1983, he joined with David Bryan, Tico Torres, Alec John Such, and originally Dave Sabo as the guitarist, but later picked up Rickie after being impressed with his skills and they recorded it together, eventually under the name Bon Jovi as suggested by Jon's cousin. Dave went on to form Skid Row in 1986.
Ummm, no. Jon got a session guitarist for Runaway. Bon Jovi hadn't even started before Jon asked Richie to join. He's not a founding member. I wouldn't call any of them founding members, only Jon.

In other interviews, he stated: besides his daughter needing him, he HAD TO go thru Rehab. Or he’d be dead.
I’m proud of him for making that important decision. And super proud that he didn’t put money above himself & his daughter & family.
When the cookies crumbled, he moved on to a more satisfying Solo venue, where he has more control & autonomy. ❤️

I'm really amazed on how naive some fans are.Let's be honest,the guy is bullshitting everyone,first he used his daughter as an excuse for bailing on a running tour.For those who don't know,a huge band like Bon Jovi,plans their tours months before,he knew exactly the shedule!Than he announced,he will go into fashion,because he was dating this designer.Well, after nobody bought their clothes,he says,he want to prove himself as a solo-artist.Well,mostly he played Bon Jovi hits(don't give me the ''he wrote these song''-crap,if he want's to be a solo-artist,he should play solo-material),nobody gave a sh*t.The fans went to see Bon Jovi with Phil X,it was actually the most successful tour of 2013.The one day he's badmouthing Jon & the band,the next day,he does a 180(because of the rage of the fans).Now he stuck like a leech on Orianthi and is shamelessly exploiting this talented girl's fanbase,good image and ''rising star'',in order to keep his career alive and sell tickets to his cover gigs.He's drinking on stage & butchering the old hits,while she is playing/singing her butt off!He even managed to put one of his flopped singles from 2012,on her new ''Best Of'' compilation,so that he will get royalties from every cd she's selling!

The boys never said one bad thing about Richie's absence but every once in awhile Richie said things like he had "no freedom" in the band. He knew how it was beforehand. He'd already been there for 29 years, so why was he so bent out of shape at this point? It was obvious that it had nothing to do with him playing daddy to a daughter who is now 18. He sure as hell wasn't that interested in her while she was growing up, why now? He's lost so many brain cells now that he has nearly become an entirely new level of a special kind of stupid. I was one who thought it would suck without him but learned shortly after videos from the concerts started popping up here that they were doing great minus Richie. All 90 shows sold out and once again the biggest tour on the planet. Thank God someone besides me thinks Richie may have fucked the dog once too many times "these days" lol.

On the contrary,I have more respect than ever for Jon,who's busting his arse 3 hours on stage,even with a damaged voice,David,Tico and specially Phil X.That guy saved not one but two tours of Bon Jovi and he's not even an official member,he's professional,down to earth and brought new life to the band.After the tour,he didn't start acting like a rockstar,he thanked the band for giving him the opportunity to take part in such a big tour,thanked the fans who showed love to him and went back to his family and other projects(he has 2 bands,does sessions,is teaching & of course the many demo/instruction videos he does here on youtube,which are very entertaining,even if you're not a guitarist.)
doubleP I couldn't agree more! Makes me think that he is trying to pretend he isn't getting older like the rest of us are. I was so shocked when Jon was showing up at functions in '14 with a head full of gray hair. Not that it's a bad thing, the guy just keeps aging like a fine wine, something that Richie hasn't. I'm sure if they tour again he'll have it colored but I'm no better, I've been coloring my own hair for at least a decade. Growing old isn't for the weak, that's for sure. Hope you have a great week!

Eagleway Michael You're point is invalid as he claimed he was leaving for family reasons, then about a month later started a solo tour which he has been on/off doing ever since, so he clearly isn't fed up with touring. If he wanted to quit thats fine, but he could have at least carried on and finished the last 6 months of tour so Bon Jovi couldve finished on a high and the fans, like me, who paid to see him weren't let down. He's going through some kind of midlife crisis, trying to recapture the glory days with the rockstar outfits and solo touring for his ego.

Pavel Beloborodov I guess I won't be the first to tell you how incredibly wrong you are. Bon Jovi kicked ass with their "Because we can" tour in 2013. It was the #1 tour on the planet AGAIN, outselling the next 3 all together, one of them being the little puke from Canada (my sympathy to my Canadian neighbors who have to claim him) and Katy Perry. Google it and you will see. Richie was only missed for a short time once fans realized that Phil X was awesome. The guy even flew back home to be with his wife when she went into labor, welcomed his new baby boy into the world and flew back for the next night's show, still wearing his hospital bracelet. The guy is solid, they won't have to cover for him in rehab multiple times, and they won't talk shit behind his back just like they've done for Richie the past 30 years. Jon never said a single bad word about Richie, and he was asked repeatedly, people trying so hard to get some dark dirty secret from Jon. All Jon said is "personal reasons" and "You have to work". Nothing worse than that, and now you see who is the loyal one.

He's a good guitarist but watching him over the years, he seems to have this constant need to boast and obsess over the concerns of his own ego in a way that isn't matter of fact cool or confident like Jon Bon Jovi... When your the guitarist and main co-writing partner in Bon Jovi you can relax and stop telling us you're not just Bon Jovi's side man. We get it, no one but you is worried about it or actually cares.
The bottom line is that unless he wanted to live a completely different life, quit music, etc., then quitting Bon Jovi is just flat out crazy... Counseling and therapy is a lot cheaper and more effective then forfeiting your position in one of the most successful bands of all time just to deal with whatever unresolved emotional issues going on...
