- I walk you through a front & rear differential gearbox oil change on my 3rd gen Tacoma. Below are the supplies, torque specs and links.
Socket Sizes/Torque Specs:
Front diff fill (10mm hex): 29ft/lbs
Front diff drain (10mm hex): 48ft/lbs
Rear diff fill (24mm or 15/16"): 36ft/lbs
Rear diff drain (24mm or 15/16"): 36ft/lbs
Front skid plate (12mm): 22ft/lbs
Front diff: 1.6qts of 75W-85 (GL-5)
Rear diff: 4.2qts of 75W-85 (GL-5)
If 75W-85 is hard to find, 75W-90 (GL-5) will do just fine.

I've had that same problem with that style of oil catch pan, its because the catch area isn't deep enough, or slightly angled at the drain area.
Very nice and informative. Can you elaborate on how many different types of washers you used? I am a bit confused on what washer goes where. It's my understanding that there are metal crush washers, aluminum washers and a copper washer for the differentials and transfer case.
If you could keep the fluid spilling over the ground that would be a great video. Also once hearing a click you should stop turning the torque wrench.

I change my diff fluid too. It's pretty easy really, not any harder than an oil change. Can't figure out why shops charge so much to change it. Mine wanted $140 per diff hahaha! Why? It's 10 minutes of work.
Question for the diferencial i need to change the rear diferencial?
, the tranfer diferencial?,
and the front diferecial? how much oil i need?

I've got a 2017 4x4 taco,never knew about this til I was looking around. How often do I need to replace this fluid? Im at 101K miles already. Is this why my taco feels like it stalls?
Do what I did...cut the top of that oil drain pan right out with a jig saw,they are too shallow..
Smart! Engine oil usually doesn't come out that fast so I never had a problem until then.

I would have let all that residual fluid drain out, given all the work and prep, what's another 5 minutes?
How many miles do you have on the truck to do this service and also do you did that transfer case to ?
I did this as part of the 60K service interval. I’m going to do the transfer case and manual gearbox soon. Stay tuned for that video!
I think it's 30k miles for diffs/t-case.

I have that same exact oil pan. It's a crap design. It's too shallow and oil always splatters out of it. Obviously ZERO testing went into the design of it.
this bothers me more than anything else.. As a former Air Force military maintenance man I continually see a major error in almost all these videos, no matter Who makes them. YOU SHOULD NEVER double click a torque wrench. That was forced into our heads and was alway a warning in the Technical orders. If you double click a torque wrench you are actualy over torquing. This won't change anyones habits, but I'm sure there are many vets out there and present military maintenance men that will agree, and cringe when the see it happen.
This was also forced into my head when I worked at a quick lube shop. But we were also using Harbor Freight torque wrenches, so the first click could just be it breaking.
