    There is nothing like a walk near water to lift the spirits and calm the mind. Worked for me Henry. Some great green spaces. A city with the mental health of its citizens in mind

    Lovely and fun walk! Your comments on the Cincinnati Dog echoed in yesterday's newspaper: "Cheese Coney: a Midwestern standout with chopped onion, a stripe of mustard, sauce of finely ground beef, a prodigal pile of shredded Cheddar, and miraculous merging of Mediterranean and Slavic flavors (nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon) with early 20th c. American tastes" 😊

    I am enjoying everyone's comments! The video was great, Henry! We live only 50 minutes from Cincinnati but I avoid it like the plague. 😂 Too many people and Montana has spoiled me.
    It was great to see the massive amount of improvement that they have done in this area. I haven't been there for at least a few decades and it looks so much better! Way to go, Cincinnati! Skyline vs. Goldstar...😁...Skyline is always the favorite here. And my son, who joins me on my walks with you, just had Graeter's Ice cream tonight. 🍨
    Thanks for sharing, Henry! I actually stopped exercising and sat down and watched the last half of it. 🤫😄 It was very enjoyable to just hear your thoughts and info. Hope you enjoyed the visits with the family. 🙏
    All the best!

      Thanks so much and glad you guys are enjoying it. Especially the Graeter’s😁. The next two weeks after Lexington are going to be downtown and over the Rhine. Hope you enjoy those as well. Living in Montana. I definitely understand what you mean about so many people. It’s exciting for a little visit, but then I’m ready to get back to the open spaces. Thanks so much for your wonderful comments and support and I’m so glad you are enjoying these. - H.

    Cincinnati did have an NBA team (Royals) from 1957-72, which moved to Kansas City, then Sacramento (Kings). The Heritage Bank Center arena opened in 1975.

    That’s Covington Ky right across the river 👍🏼

  • @Cincinnatian777
    @Cincinnatian777 Рік тому +2

    Errata & Information: Smale rhymes with snail. Covington, Ky not Ft. Thomas. "421 bridge"? you may have meant I-471 bridge or Daniel Carter Beard Bridge known as the Big Mac because of its golden (really yellow) arches. You seemed to be looking at the Roebling Suspension bridge completed in 1867 and designed by the same man who later designed the Brooklyn Bridge. You said the riverfront wasn't really used in the 19th century. It was used for warehouses, factories etc. the foundations of which you saw. There is a sign which identifies them. Above the Anderson Pavillion which is used mostly for weddings there is a beautiful large carousel. The labyrinth originated in Greek myth as the place where King Minos imprisoned the minotaur. Actually it probably referred to the labyrinthine palace at Knossos which had many rooms and might have confused people. The word comes from the Greek labrys a double-headed ax which was a symbol used by the Minoans on the island of Crete. The serpentine wall is not in Sawyer Point, but in Yeatman's Cove Park where the first white settlers landed. There are four parks which extend upriver from Paycor Stadium for over 2 miles: Smale, Yeatman's Cove, Bicentennial Commons at Sawyer Point and finally the Theodore Berry International Friendship Park. The Cincinnati Royals basketball team played not at what is now called Heritage Bank Center, but at the old Cincinnati Gardens in the far northern part of Cincinnati. There is still a minor league hockey team which does play at Heritage Bank Center. FC Cincinnati is the major league soccer team at TQL stadium which is near Music Hall. The Cincinnati Symphony did once play on a barge tied up at the Serpentine Wall. Handel's Water Music was played of course. In addition to Red Bikes there are also electric scooters which can be rented and there are segue tours. The old buildings in Covington you mentioned are still homes and there are annual clean ups of the banks of the Ohio River in Cincinnati.

      Hi there and thanks for all the info and corrections. I misspoke saying it wasn't used in the 19th century, I meant to say the 1990's when I remember it mainly as parking lots, but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks so much for the detailed info. Very helpful for me and hopefully others. I remember going to see the hockey teams in the Cincinnati Gardens as well as a couple concerts there. All the best. -H

      I go back to the 1960s when there were still quite a few warehouses and old factories as well as many railroad tracks in that area. One of them was owned by Mr. Castellini who is the major shareholder in the Reds. His family ran a wholesale fruit & vegetable business in the area where that esplanade is now. A food truck was set up there on your walk. It is decorated with metal fruit and vegetables and he donated the money to build that part of the park. The picnic tables on railroad tracks adjacent to that area is also an illusion to the old rail lines. Most of that area was torn down to build the Fort Washington Way (I-71) and the old Riverfront Stadium and then what is now Paycor Stadium, Great American and The Banks. The old buildings gradually disappeared, but I don't think many were sorry to see them go. Most were pretty dilapidated. Mr. Castellini is now out in the Kentucky suburbs somewhere I think.@@CityWalks

    *-H what is the census of this town ? Is it mostly decents of Europeans who live here or is it mixed ?* 👍

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  Рік тому

      The primary European immigrant group was German but the city has a lot of diversity: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati
