I’ve been looking at split rings recently and the sizes are hard to decifer. Thanks for this video! I now know that I need size 3’s for most of my cranks.
This might be a silly question, but are you talking for the line tie only or for hook attachment as well? I'm trying to figure out what to order for attaching treble hooks.
Not silly at all. I’m talking about all of them. They are generally all the same, with exception to the nose (line tie) if you’re wanting to get a set up similar to the way Lucky Craft or Strike King does it, using and elongated split ring on the nose. But I believe that’s still the same “size” number as well, just a different split ring
I've bought so called 5mm ID split rings from different companies and I've yet to get what I have ordered. Every batch has been either larger or smaller, mostly smaller and in round wire when I've ordered flat wire! I've had to stop including the splits and hooks because of this reason. Thank you for such an interesting video and it's given me ideas of when I order 'more' split rings. I've given the useless rings to a local school who use split rings in their Tec classes.
first ! i just switched out the rings on my zander lures tbh i had to eyeball it the tackleshop didnt have the gamakatsu rings that are on the spro moonrakers and went with 6mm inner diameter from mustad . it panned out perfectly size wise ^^

Can you recommend a good brand of split ring pliers? Have tried several different brands, and none seem to be of real quality. Great video.

Black Owner Hyper wire and Spro Power Split rings is all I use...owner never spring apart...anything Stainless will
I though the American stuff was measured in 16th of an inch. So a size 4 would be 1/4” ID ( inside diameter )

Does anyone know what a Inside /or/ outside Micrometers are? You want to know the size try using one.
Calipers are fantastic when they're affordable, but not everyone can afford a decent one. Great thought though

I use the stock that I buy from Shortys, but my all time fave is Owner HyperWire when I can afford them
