I’ve never played card games before, but decided to buy StS during the last Steam sale since it had such a huge playerbase. I actually WANTED to dislike it so that I could reaffirm my dislike for this genre...well that night I played for 8 hours straight without realizing and it’s now one of my favorite games of all time. Brilliant early access title, and I never thought I’d enjoy any video games that didn’t play like a fps/tps. Cool to see you like it too Mack!
its a very good game and i enjoy drawing and using 30 cards per turn with the thief class very much if you get the right upgrades.... really sux against the time lord boss cus he ends your turn every 12 card uses

Excellent game. Regarding RNG, if it wasn't for RNG you'd also never get to experience those decks where everything comes together and makes you an irrisistable powerhouse. RNG adds life. If it didn't, we'd all be hanging out in the chess channel.

An important aspect of the game that could've been brought up in the review is that you always see what your enemies are going to do next (unlike many other games involving cards). A lot of the fun in this game comes from the fact that even though there's a lot of RNG, you still feel like you have somewhat control over the situation. The strategy lies in trying to mitigate the enemies actions while at the same time dealing damage to them.

Mack I was thinking, maybe you can review the amnesia games. Like a retro review, because those games (especially the first one) holds up really well today. The games has amazing stories and they ooze atmosphere. I feel like the games are getting forgotten and its sad.

well i go with the take every single card strategy and it's working for me, had a 60 something card deck by the final boss. i simply had tons of energy, and i drew lots of cards so i could play like 5+ cards a turn, after a little set up

I got it quite a bit earlier, when they only had the first character. Even then it was great fun and I feel like they are updating quite frequently, adding cards, modes and new characters. For the amount of hours played, it's definitely worth a buy in my book.

Wow you finally got to it! I normally HATE CC games. This is the best I've ever played though and has such a unique premise that makes it addictive as hell to play over and over again til you win. It really is great! Just make it through one map and you will be addicted. The very start is kinda slow because your cards suck but it quickly builds from there and so many cool cards. Yes there's RNG but that's the funnest aspect and it's what makes it so replayable. So many variables can come up, and you also have that Just One More Turn motivation and before you know it 3 hrs have passed. I've played it for 10 hrs straight many times.
worth a buy. Do have any suggestions on great zombie games to buy from STEAM? I was gonna get how to survive 2 but, it has a lot of bad reviews.

Deck jokes aside, having a smaller deck makes you very vulnerable to enemies / bosses that put loads of status cards in your deck over a fight.
I like it, you don't go in for the win, rather that's just a lucky outcome, this is a rogue-lite where it's enjoyable to lose and where you just sometimes lose due to rng, but that's okey, cuz it's a fun game.
A great game review and personal deck care tips all in one. Can't beat it.

It's not the size of the deck, it's how you play with it.
Just wanna tell you, there are some really good modded classes and overall mods for this game. especially Replay the spire (which is like a pack of a bunch of new relics, events and cards but they are really good) to find the mods, they are on github so google search : known mods slay the spire

I think he'd piss all over it, especially 1 where theres stuff like mako that handles like it its made of jelly (and i still love it), but wouldn't mind seeing Mack do it.

Chocolate Rain I think me2 felt more like a side quest,recruiting characters etc,but it was superb btw. Me1 had a better overarching storyline.

One of the best games I've played. The replayability is HUGE. If you really like the game you can go infinite and play it forever. It actually made me stop playing Hearthstone where I spent lots of money and had serious addiction over the years. It was impossible to not come back to HS soon or later when I was taking a break. So you can imagine how good is StS to achieve that, it actually killed completely my addiction to HS and stopped me to keep wasting money there. Never looked back.
Couldn't sleep last night so loaded this one up on the ipad pro. Same deal for me, I saw the screenshots and thought mehhh. Then I started playing...It's amazingly fun! I'm totally 'hewked' as one might say

vabalokis Single Player "ONLY." Multiplayer would give you more choices in terms of how you want to play the game, he's not saying Singleplayer is bad
God rogue like card games are my favorite. Idk why I’ve never come across this one, definitely buying once I’m off work.
I hate cardgames, but this game is pretty freaking decent! Especially if you are an Adult and dont really have 10 hrs to sink into some grindy game. Totally worth a buy thanks Mac!

This is a true gem of a game. After I unlocked everything in the game Iike this I often tire of it after a little time. The unlocking itself was that bit of excitement I needed to keep enjoying it, but when it was done, I would,tire if the gameplay. Not this game: unlocked everything long ago,and still play all the time. The gameplay and replayability is that good.
Mod the Spire is great. Wait till you try out the other characters. The mad scientist and witch are my favorites

Have seen this game raved about a bunch but card games dont really interest me. Based on your review I gave it a purchase and really enjoying it, so thanks for the heads up. As many others say the graphics are the weakest part of the game, but loving the strategy... definitely worth it’s low price.

Java Monsoon but is it still depressing to play? I felt it was more of a victory to not lose a character in a run vs in other games where you actually make it back out better off than when you entered. It all felt so futile and pointless IMO.
A little late on this one Mack. But yeah, it's basically a card game version of Binding of Isaac, and yeah, it's awesome.

People who are used to card games like YuGiOh or Magic the Gathering will amass lots of cards and build huge deck... Understandable though, since in those games, running out of cards in your deck means game over.
While this kind of games, you simply reshuffle your deck. Meaning the slimmer your deck, the better you are. You can even build a deck using only ONE card. Imagine if you can draw 5 cards per turn and you only have 5 cards in your deck... the complete set of Exodia. Instant win every time.
There are lots of games like this lately, I played one. I beat the final boss using only 6 cards. Yup, only SIX (six path of SAGE! jk). But I abuse the game system that I can pull like 20+ attacks in a single turn. So I beat the final boss in like... 3 - 4 turns.
hey mack, Tower of Time is a very good, but underrated game. Maybe it is worth your time.
