But this might be off topic. During this whole thing i kept seeing people saying that if they had gone for a girl crush or hip hop concept that nobe of these would have happened. But what i keep saying in response to that is that either way illit would have gotten the short end of the stick, because they would have been accused of trying to copy blackpink or baby monster. I just feel sad for the girls

The Weeekly comparison was insane 😂 I was trying to explain this to a MHJ stan once that the only you see so many similarities is because you’re looking for them!!! If you gave me any 2 girl groups and a few hours I could edit together a convincing video claiming one copied the other! With good examples
It's obvious bunnies are new kpop stans because, if you're long enough in this, you know nothing is new, nothing is original, it's all a never ending cycle. I would add another word to what kpop stans don't know the meaning of: "refreshing". Nothing in kpop is refreshing because companies will go for what sells with a couple wanting to try to go against the grain a bit and see if it works.
The only reason why people stand behind MHJ is because the other side is a company and the new generation is very anti-capitalist, or at least, very anti-companies.
I would agree but from what I’ve seen, they aren’t actually anti-companies. They literally just want to hate on a specific one, being HYBE and I think it’s connections to Bts are a big reason why. The same people I see hate on Hybe claiming they’re a evil company, although they have the cleanest record between the biggest K-pop companies are the same people who call themselves SM and JYP stans. They’re the same people that claim Hybe is sabotaging new jeans which makes no sense whatsoever since they own 80% of ador and have to spend millions just on new jeans making new music, music videos and anything that leads to a successful group.
@@chesiresays Hybe is a fairly new company so they still have to build a reputation compared to their counterparts but they are not as nice as people might think they are. A clear example is the fact they are okay with debuting groups without training them despite the money they make annually. Also, when someone calls themselves "x company" stan, it usually means they are fans of the groups that company creates, not that they like the company itself. I'm mainly a fan of SM groups but the company is a shithole and I'll never forgive them for how they treat their idols.
I wouldn't say this is "new kpop Stan" behavior. Accusing groups of plagiarism over something extremely common can date back till 2nd gen

Finally someone said it loud and clear. I love both groups, and I don't prefer one over the other. I don't have incentive to prioritize Illit over NJ, and still I've never seen any sort of ground for copying allegations. Min Heejin is nuts, and many NJ stans got really dumb over these allegations. From the music, to the styling, to the concept, they've always been different, and coincidences are bound to happen in a world like K-pop that heavily relies on trends. I know this video won't stop people from yapping nonsense, but I'm glad there's now a piece of media with strong, structured, and studied arguments countering the baseless copying claims.

And you're right: if MHJ had humbly said she took inspiration for NJ's concept from retro media and ILLIT is just following the 90s/2000s trend, it would be fine and no one would be bothered. Another group thats recently heavily hated is accused of copying babymonster, using concept photos, the member reveals (such as the red backgrounds), apperantly sound even though its not something yg will produce, a bloody dance move 🤘 and logo.

1. Black silhouette with red background. Gidle did that and Viviz did it. It's very common.
2. The denim photos with white background. Other groups also did it. BM isn't full on denim either.
3. This handsign🤘 was used in 2020 by Dreamcatcher Scream. It's just one move anyone can do.
4. YG won't make BM do such music. He's too stuck with BP so BM will pretty much follow that due to laziness
5. The vibe and look. This falls under what I can actually talk about. It takes years to plan, not something that's rushed (and if it is it can get sloppy very fast). Name is decided years in advance. The type of look they want for the group, the logo, the amount of members. Generally this will be likely done using a mood board to show off the vibe they look for. Again, this gets done long before a member gets introduced. Like BV has the vibe of Villains, like how they used a comic book type of look.
6. The member intro music, might agree a smidge.
7. Locations (actually had someone say they copied the locations). It's like that diner you see often or the I think stadium building thing
So with the use of girl crush concept, no one owns it. But apperantly to some people because BM debuted 1st it means only they are allowed to use any of it.
Also a side note, but BM doesn't need to worry about their popularity. They were popular the second they were known as a YG group and BP younger sister 🤷♀️

Well, I guess I'm the exception *shrugs ego* I'm clearly a bunnie, but I've never liked MHJ. Whenever she appears, I grit my teeth. This woman just scares the hell out of me, because she seems quite capable of putting girls through the worst kind of blackmail (in her lecture, I clearly saw the beginnings of a suicide blackmail and that... really scared me). I don't think Hybe is all white, but I have no problem with illit (I'm obsessed with Lucky Girl Syndrome). I always knew the New jeans concepts were inspired and you explained it very well. In itself there's nothing wrong with being inspired, but to then go on to say that you're original and superior seems very hypocritical to me.
Anyway, thank you very much for this video! I hope the problems will be solved and that MHJ will lose control of the girls very quickly, because she's disturbing and belongs in a hospital rather than as CEO of an underage agency.
Fellow Bunnie here and I agree with you. Also, Lucky Girl Syndrome is a bop. It’s really strange to me that nobody sees how weird it is for a 40 something year old woman to be using a group of 16 to 20 year olds as emotional crutches. Like seriously, nobody batted a eye about her saying that the members called her late at night crying or about how she said Hanni wanted to come to her house and console her or that she said all of their parents were worried she was going to kill herself. That’s so off putting. This woman needs to get away from these girls immediately. I’d rather their creative direction falter than have them be emotionally manipulated and scarred from her mind games.

I don’t think majority of bunnies like Min Heejin they just appreciate the creative direction of the group. And many day to day people outside the fandom has mistaken both groups for different reason. I think MHJ speaking about copying and overshadowing Illit’s debut was so sad to watch. It was also sad to know that Newjeans was working so hard on their comeback with so much uncertainty and MHJ and HYBE in their ear telling them would be their last.
It just a bit disappointing see how Cheryl has never spoken about the group’s talents or success on this channel. And was so quick to call Danielle a spoiled brat for mistakenly over talking Eunchae - her commentary never comes off as unbias when speaking of Newjeans. I literally thought the same exact thing when I watched it. BeLift’s video wasn’t even that bad. Everybody just jumped on the NMIXX part and how they categorized NewJeans, which wasn’t the best way to put it, but after watching this it makes sense why they said that NewJeans is marketed to a older demographic. A older demographic that looks back on their younger days. NewJeans represents nostalgia. Look at their recent song Supernatural. Straight up 90’s new Jack swing. They are supposed to remind us of different eras and it makes sense seeing how old some of their fans are
@@kayziofficial people watched it when it didn't have subtitles yet (which was fully belifts fault) and saw different groups and were convinced that belift must be saying nj copied nmixx because why else is nmixx in the video? i still don't think it was a bad way to put it because even watching it now, them bringing up nmixx choreo is literally just what op did here but with weeekly. it also didn't help that the lack of subtitles left tokkis with full advantage to say whatever they wanted, they started spreading wrong translations and even i was convinced because korean fans were saying it. only to find out those korean fans were tokkis lol. but overall, its pointless now because the entire kpop community took the narrative and ran with it and haven't bothered to watch the video with the subtitles now that they're available.

@@kayziofficial personally, i still don't think the nmixx part is bad because the whole point of that segment was belift saying that anyone can create a narrative of plagiarism with just 2 second clips. and then put clips of nj choreo with another choreo that is the same. showing how easy it is to make up stuff like this. and also bringing up the point that nj uses beginners hip hop steps and showed different groups who use those same steps, and one of them was nmixx. they weren't actually saying that nmixx choreo is being copied because we know it wasn't being copied and like you pointed out, the song came out later. i genuinely don't think it was a mess up on belifts part, because they were right, the part they messed up in was not having subtitles. personally for me, i haven't been streaming nj since hype boy but i know a lot of armys have stopped streaming for them which hit them a little harder this last cb.
I used to criticise international fans who used to complain about K-Netz before but now that I have more exposure and knowledge of the kpop community, I see it. K-Netz are insensitive and the kind of people to ride whatever train is coming their way first, much better when it's young and innocent kind of concept. Though International fans might not be all good. During this controversy, I saw a larger number of International fans trying to go for facts and stay neutral.

i can’t tell you how many times i’ve seen bunnies call people “haters” just for raising concerns about the wellbeing of the girls.
i always considered kpop stans to be a bit overly protective of idols, so i was very surprised to see how many bunnies would blame the girls for the situation they’re in, while asking fans to simply shut up & look the other way if we think they’re being mistreated.
the cookie scandal brought out a bad side of the fandom that i can never unsee, sadly. i’d never been in a fan community that would ask others to never care or worry about the idol. it’s rare to see instances like this where the “haters” seem to care more about the girls than the fans do.

You literally never miss!!! I feel like i've been going crazy trying to defend illit and they're not even a group i stan or anything. Its like everyone woke up one day and decided to be delusional about illit and min heejin in particular.
I mean, is anyone surprised? As soon as I heard about her doing personal interviews and talking about the girls that way, something felt off. Cookie and the photo scandal just confirmed it. This girl is a clear narcissist, it's sad to see impressionable Knets and Bunnies falling for this. And, no, I'm not a HYBE stan, I'm an ILLIT, LESSERAFIM, and TWS, stand, ALL groups MHJ has mentioned to be "copying." There are also other groups noted that I support, so for their sake, I'm just tuning out of NWJNS for now. I keep saying that if you were confusing Illit for Newjeans, you never knew about or cared about Newjeans in the first place. Honestly how did you not recognise the members you claim to stan to the point where you saw a 5 member girl group with natural hair and assumed they were the same thing... you guys are telling on yourself, because you don't care about Newjeans you stan MHJ...
Like if you go out and look there are plenty of groups who are aguably more similar but you don't see their fans saying people are going to mix them up, sure they may yell about copying but they are never outright confusing the groups they claim to Stan. You could make a fair case of Ateez and Stray Kids ccppyig each other (they aren't) using selective evidence such as both having 8 members, strong edm discography and difficult dance steps, which can occasionally overlap. But you will never see even a casual stan of either group mistaking one for the other
MHJ thrown a smoke grenade with the plagiarism, that different groups made of her unique work, especially Illit. So people started to speak about the girls look, movements and forgetting to concentrate at her illegal plans against HYBE. Eventually most of the people could see the true color of MHJ.
New Jeans fans, they are something else. First of all, they're teenagers or children, and they are impressed by the girls situation. So it is "normal" to be passionate and blind when it is about the NJ. As we know, children and teenagers can be very cruel, and can hurt people around them very easily and almost unconscious, and that can be dangerous for others and for themselves. Unfortunately their role model it is a narcissistic woman, who was able to drag others, NJ girls, Illit, BSH, HYBE, through the mud, only to "protect" her interests.

Honestly I think the biggest thing I've noticed with newjeans is that they basically kickstarted fifth gen and set the trend that would end up being the thing we associate with 5th gen. Every generation in kpop kinda has a certain sound that kickstarted with a debut that inspired the sound associated with that generation. I definitely think that if newjeans didn't debut, illit and many other 5th gen kpop groups wouldn't have the sound they have today. However, do i think it's copying? Not really. Are there similarities? Quite a bit if im being honest but i think the real issue is that they both debuted under hybe with similar ish vibes. I can bet on my left toe that if they didn't debut under the same label (hybe), no one would have bat an eye on their similarities as newjeans kinda set the tone for 5th gen. They didn't copy anything, more or so just followed the trends of 5th gen that newjeans happened to inspire or participate in. Unfortunately this is what happens when you have a monopoly and create so many groups. There's bound to be overlaps

heejin's days at hybe are numbered. either they will wait a little and call for another board meeting (how many injunctions can she get?) or wait for her contract to expire. this is why belift lab's case against her is crucial. if they win especially if the court orders her to pay a fine, it will be easier for hybe to remove her.
if the court grants her another injunction im afraid korea will lose a lot of foreign investment. it will show investors that even with 80% ownership they wont be able exercise their rights. we already saw the effect of the injunction - nps reduced its stake in all labels.
the way new jeans is showing support for heejin, i doubt they will get a contract renewal that is if they last that long.

I looked up their ages and immediately was like nope this isn’t for me.
