- Bought replacement from Amazon for $8.00.
*Added April 24, 2016 * Thank you very much for the kind comments. Wife and I did this on the spur of the moment. We were leaving for the park and just thought I'd install this real quick. And she said, "Hey, I'll video and put it on UA-cam." We had no idea anyone would actually see it and it's rather heartwarming to see we've helped others.
Wow… you’ve just saved me $300 to pay a guy to do 2 handles… THANK YOU GUYS!!!
Thank you very much for the instructional video. Without this, I wouldn’t know what to do or I’d pay $ 120 for a mechanic to do it for me. I did the exact same procedure, except on the other side, and got it done in 10 minutes. Very easy once you know.
Such a good video guide, clear instructions and saved me paying someone else to do it for me!
Thank You for putting this how to video up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Drivers side and Left Passenger side broke off just a few days ago. It's a 20 year old car, so I knew eventually it was going to happen. Looks very simple to do. I really thought I had to take the panel off. Thankfully I came across your video. Thank You 🙏
Thank you, just replaced mine, Madza wanted $102, bought from Autobahn for $21 and thanks to you I did myself and saved more money for a mechanic.
15 minutes wasted trying to figure it out on my own. 3 minutes on UA-cam. 3 minutes and done. Awesome!!
I've used this video twice now to replace door handles on both the driver and passenger side. Thank you so much for making it so clear.
Just came back from the car and replaced the door handle in a few mins after watching this video.
Thanks heaps
Great video, everything is well explained and carefully demonstrated!
Also, props to Mazda for making this an easy fix rather than some other manufacturers that would turn it into a one hour door disassembly exercise!
THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH! SIMPLY PUT AND CLEARLY EXPLAINED! YOU GUYS SAVED ME ABOUT $50! Aloha 🤙🏽🙏🏽
You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for this video.
Awesome video! We two sisters (in our 40s and 50s) were able to replace 2 handles in about 20 minutes thanks to this video!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for recording and teaching me. I keep having to roll down my window to open my door from the outside (I feel like Granny Camplett) and I already ordered and received my new handle, so I may go do that right now! I am glad I did not have to take the door panel off!
Thank you for this video. I have just finished replacing a broken door handle on my Mazda. I think I would have struggled without watching this video first. It's easy when you know how.
You saved me so much time, thank you.
About to try this based on your video - Many many thanks for uploading 🙂
Thanks for the great video and explanation - priceless !
I also was about to take off the door panel which was unnecessary, and painful.
I bought the replacement on Ebay. I reused the plastic clip that attaches to the wire "pulling" part. It looks better quality.
Very useful instructions! I've replaced door handle for my son's Mazda Protege in a few minutes. THANK YOUUU!!!!
Thanks for a great, well- explained video including the bit about making sure the clip didn't fall in the door well (I put duct tape over the gap, then forgot to remove it when I clipped the other side in :)) . As a person of limited means and needing it fixed ASAP this was a big help and I wouldn't have tried without watching it.
Glad it helped. Wife and I just thought to vid at the last moment. Wonderful to hear it helped.
Thank you so much!!! I found the door handle on Amazon for $11. My mechanic he would fix it for $100 😲 no way! I can't believe it's that easy. No more crawling across to the passenger side when my window is frozen! 😂
Yeaaa, mechanics like to try to fuck over girls who don't know much about cars usually. Good job doing it yourself!
Thank you so much for this, I thought this would be really difficult but I just changed two handles in 10 minutes thanks to you guys
Thanks... I thought I would need to remove the door panel too. Your tips to watch out for and the handle pull to fit the horn were excellent
Thank you. Wife and I just thought to video it on the spur of the moment. Glad it helped.
Thank you for the video. It was to the point and helped me change my handle in no time at all. Thanks for explaining about the retaining clip. Have a great day.
Watching this video was a huge help. Thanks for posting it!
Thank you for this! It's exactly what I needed to see to replace two of my door handles.
Thank you for this. Fixed mine in about fifteen minutes as the horizontal piece had fallen in the door so I had to jimmy the door panel open and push it back up But all in all great demo. Thanks
Removed a rear handle to replace a front one in my 2002 Protege. Like some others, I had a hard time getting the handle back onto the clip. I used my screwdriver to widen the hole a little and then it fit just fine.
Yep, I had to do the same.
It's actually easier to leave the little plastic clip on the handle and then snap it onto metal rod, then just swivel the bottom of the clip and snap on.
Once clip is removed from the handle and already snapped onto the metal rod it "opens up" wider to stay in place which makes it much harder to push through the little hole of the handle, making it easy to brake of.
Thanks a lot for sharing this video!!! I thought you have to take off the whole door panel... just replaced my broken driver's side inside door handle after seeing this video! i took the handle from the passenger door behind the driver temporarily until i get a replacement to come in...
Thank you. Just bought a Used 2002 323 Astina with the same handle broken. Easy fix.
Giant help on changing door handle on my 2000 protege. Thanks folks. I did run into a problem on mine: After I put on my little white clip I couldn't get the door handle piece to fit over the clip. I finally had to carve the hole on the door handle part, with a pocket knife, so it would fit over and then snap in place.
Had the same problem. It's actually easier to leave the little plastic clip on the handle and then snap it onto metal rod, then just swivel the bottom of the clip and snap on.
Thank you so much for your fantastic explanation. Very nicely done!
Really useful - Just changed mine in 5 minutes. Thanks
Love the video, saved myself $100 on labor.
Great video. Made this job a snap!
Thanks for the helpful video!
Thankyou so much for this video!!::-) I drive delivery and broke the inside handle on the drivers side😅 Don't want to have to pay $20 for something I know would be an easy fix!
Thank you so very much!
Thank I was having trouble trying to figure out how to put mine in... also a 2003 Protege rear door handle. Found the replacement part on eBay for $7. They wanted to charge me $86 at the dealership... before labor.
Thanks!! Great video. Very useful.
Recently both front and rear passenger side handles broke on my 2003 Mazda Protege.
With visions of soon becoming trapped in my aging vehicle I decided to replace all four.
I was unable to use your installation procedure for my eBay aftermarket replacements.
Once attached to the metal rod the clip was impossible to snap back onto the handle.
Fortunately it was easy to install the already attached clips directly to the L-shaped rod.
Mine wouldnt attach either and the new clip kept spinning until I grasped it in place with my needle nose pliers
Thanks so much for the clarity of your video. Would this be the same for a Mazda CX9 2013 that has the lock on the door handle?
Thank you very much it's exactly what I wanted to know ❤️😊
The plastic part where the screw holding the handle in came off and I don't know what it's called or how to fix it??? It looks like it was just glued in place, but what kind of glue is needed. So frustrating when trying to get help and you can't name it.
Perfect video
thanks for the video, it was easier than i thought! :)
Nice. Thanks!
I don't know why mine is not this easy. Following from the video, once I removed the retaining clip from the old handle, the metal "rod" that it was attached to didn't just stay where it was easy to access, it is now down inside the door. If I put my hand in the hole left by the missing door handle, I can feel this rod but it is too difficult to pull it into a position where I can put the new retaining clip or handle onto it? What have I messed up? Does this mean I will now have to remove the door trim? Can anybody help please?
thank you so so much
You're welcome. We never expected to help so many. We just shot the vid on the spur of the moment.
Thanks for usefull information
nice video.can you make how to do this outside (mazda )
THANKS !
Thank you my girlfriend appreciates it lol
good ending
On the driver side is different isn't it?
It really isn't. Just reversed. Same steps.
Thank you so much for this video. You explained everything very well.
Thank you so much
Thanks!
