    You are not only an artist in Cinematography, but just as equally well you are a genius artist with explaining things, with which we can understand and follow easily!! Thank you very much! That is encouraging me to purchase your online course of how to edit videos like pro. So glad I found you on youtube!

    at 14:55 hot tub scene outside, how did you keep the sunlight from over exposing on woman's right side of face? Or is it not direct sunlight?

      The ones down low are candles. The ones hanging from the ceiling were just what were already in there. I assume some sort of incandescent bulb

    Hey Eric,
    another great example, thanks for sharing your truly cinematic formula! The more I see, the more I get the concept behind it. Also, I really love how you "scribble" us through the process and show your work very visually that way. May I ask what tool or software you're using? I guess it's an iPad + Pen and ...? Would you share the secret ingredient? I really look forward to using your tips in creating my own work soon. So again, thanks for sharing and happy to hear from you! Sending regards from Berlin

      Can’t remember exactly but since we’re balancing to daylight sources most likely around 5000-6000. That keeps the window light and skin tones natural, and the lamps nice and warm

    Eric, thank you for your breakdowns, I’ve found them so valuable. Can I ask what software you use to annotate your break downs? Would love to do the same to my photography breakdowns.

    Solid stuff man. I think my biggest struggle these days is that I have daylight lights and always gotta gel em when I’m indoors and struggle getting that nice warm look and balance with indoor lights. Love the tip on the aputure bulb. Def looking into that.

    • @EricThayne
      @EricThayne  4 роки тому +1

      You don’t *have* to gel them when you’re indoors unless you want your lamps or other indoor lights to look white. To get a warm look leave the key light daylight, balance to it in camera, and your lamps will be more warm.

    Q: How do you set your WB when using warm and cool light like in this breakdown.

    • @EricThayne
      @EricThayne  4 роки тому +3

      Short answer is whatever looks good. More technical answer is typically close to whatever the key light is (in this case around 5600-6000) so the skin tones look natural and the lamps stay warm.

    Thanks for this helpful video Eric!! I have a question hoping you can answer. I have the GVM RGB LED Video Lighting Kit but I don't have a light dome. Is these any other way to make the light bigger as you state in the video for that soft light affect on the face? Thanks :)

    • @EricThayne
      @EricThayne  4 роки тому

      Any diffusion layer in front of the light that is bigger than the light will make it softer. On a budget you could even use a thin bedsheet or some sheer curtains. Or you can also bounce the light off a white surface for a similar effect.

    Man, all of this stuff is gold! Thank you! So I was curious though, a lot of the lighting is rather warm - did you gel your 120d to better match that "tungsten" feel? Or are you using the tungsten version of the 120d? I find myself rarely using light domes, and just using silks, gridcloth, muslin, etc as the modifier, just so I can gel my lights (everything I have is daylight balanced). However, it seems you're always using a light dome in conjunction with a silk? Curious on your approach there?

    • @EricThayne
      @EricThayne  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Jarrett! Nope I’m using daylight on the 120d, then setting my white balance to match, which makes the lamps look nice and warm. If you use tungsten lights and set your white balance to tungsten, the lamps will look white. So in a way, using daylight balanced lights actually makes the image warmer. Plus, if you have windows in the room you pretty much have to use daylight anyway. The light dome II comes with a gel holder that makes it really easy to gel if you need to.

      @@EricThayne thank you so much for the reply! I guess I need to watch more closely, as I assumed you wanted to match your key to your practical, as that’s your motivation for your key. Is that ever an instance for you? Nonetheless, keep killing it. Love these breakdowns and your content!

    Dude, quit blabbering and SHOW US. All you do is talk crap. This is technical stuff, you need to make diagrams and show us images of the set instead of talking theory.
