Thanks Dr. Boster for the video. Hope you're doing well. I'll certainly work on watching UA-cam before sleep although it's been a bit difficult to sleep without it. I'm OK with the other three. Have a good day.
Listen I don’t know what other’s think but this is the worst symptom of MS for me Also I’m excited to notify everyone that though I just got diagnosed I have a wonderful neurologist who wants to start Tysabri right away I didn’t even have to fight for it! He brought it up straight away 😊
Aaron Boster MD thank you for teaching/informing me so I could be an advocate of my own care if I needed to be! So far I’m 2/4 for MS and I’m going to work on the others so I’m 4/4 in my fight against MS
It's best to start with best able as quickly as possible to stop what allowed you to be diagnosed and if abled it would have been my choice to defend the blood-brain barrier from trespassers.
FANTASTIC! It's a wonderful medication. I had altered sensation in my lower legs. During my first dose, I could feel the sensation returning in my feet.
i have been cleaning up my diet, especially removing sugar, the last few months, and it makes a HUGE difference. even lost 20 lbs to boot. the one thing i need to smarten up about is TV before bedtime. i am a news junkie, and just the content lately is enough to give nightmares alone lol!
My issue is not enough sleep. Two hours is a big deal but that's it. I have never smoked, never done drugs & I have one margarita on New Year's eve. I started sleep issues when I was 14 & now @ 69 still a problem.
Oh definitely cutting out screen time!! I am quite addicted to my phone and use it to watch everything on! As for processed food, I am quite partial to good dark chocolate with fruit and nuts. Please don’t make me stop that!! I have about 2-4 squares a day. Thank you so much! Sylvia from London (uk not Ontario )
You are awesome Doc! I do all these things and I would say the one I would add is exercise. It's hard to do when you are tired but pays in the long run.😎
i agree with you until you said to quit with the cannabis that is where i have to say hey now that is all that keeps me going lol for me cannabis is not about getting high for me it is pain management and spasms
Cutting out TV at night, I find the older I get I get up earlier than I use to (4:30 am), but I still stay up to watch the monologue on my favorite talk show. I will try to record my late night TV watching
I waa surprise you didn’t mention exercise. Exercising intermittently throughout the day helps me sleep more efficiently at night. It seems getting a better night’s sleep is more effective than just getting more sleep to me. I try to do all of these, but don’t turn off the tv. I turn the volume low and black out the screen. For me, this is as close as I can get to having my Mama read me a bedtime story. Lol Thanks Dr B!! 🤗❤️❤️
Hi from the UK 😊 I’ve already reduced my meds to just 2 for the Spasticity, don’t do any drugs & only drink very occasionally so it’s No 1 for me, have just started switching the tv off early to listen to music anyway so really hope I can improve the sleep quality. Only just found your channel & looking every day now..so thanks for the tips
Good morning Dr. B I will try number 1 & 4 I usually take a nap in the afternoon to recharge my batteries. I am trying to eat healthier. Thanks for the tips 🙌🏻👏🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻✌🏻🙋🏻♂️
I am doing Keto, so I am already away from fake foods. I really would love to get more sleep. I think of any that you mentioned, this one would help me the most. When I have a drink, it's a whiskey on the rocks. I will try to have those earlier so that it wears off before I go to bed. Much of my medications are currently performing a function and I can't get rid of any of them. My neurologist is good about doing her due diligence in trying to keep me on the straight and narrow. Thank you for these videos. I found them when I went looking for resources concerning secondary progressive. I was diagnosed in 1996 and I think I have reached that point. Your videos helped make that idea not as scary as it sounds.
Marijuana has helped me significantly. Study after study showed a massive improvement in health and symptoms with people with Ms. Also showed to lower inflammation. I didn't smoke at all. But when looking for answers that seemed to be the one. I instantly went back into remission after starting. I swear it will help. Use it before bed and wake up very refreshed. It also makes me sleep when I have severe insomnia from my Ms. Thanks for the video.
Ahhh another great one! I do all 4.... but screen time seeped in binge watching UA-cam videos this past week - most of that was your stuff!! On #4, I’m trying to be very careful to keep it simple as you recommend vs obsessing over every bite. For me #5 is - laugh & see the humor.....as much as possible 🤗
Dr B, I have done exactly what you have suggested in this video. I have been able to truly have the mind body experience of knowing at any particular time what is going on in my body. Cannabis was damaging to my cognition and glad I removed it. It created for more issues than what I was trying to achieve, less pain. For me being 4 for 4 is all about having quality of life. Another helpful video to help me stay on track to wellness. Cheers!
I already have 1,2,and3 down! I'm always trying to eat better but unfortunately, junk /sugary food has been my coping mechanism for the last 7 years. Such an ingrained habit at this point that it is soooo hard to break.
I do all 4 but I can't seem to sleep. My brain just keeps going. Reading helps sometimes is the light on a Kindle as harmful as the television? Thanks for all your help! Love the videos!
Thanks for your videos, always very well explained! Ps: could you try other microphones to improve the sound quality of your videos? that would be really appreciated I think!
Sleep Dr - i get good sleep from 10 pm to 3am (I am woken up by bladder) thereafter whatever sleep, is not deep & intermittent a most. I have afternoon naps 2 pm to 4 pm Cog Fog? Not really, but thinking have become slow and have occasional memory slips - Irritating...
@@AaronBosterMD Dinner at 6ish Sir and tablets after dinner (Water along with it) thereafter no need of fluids for me as Evenings/Nights are generally cool
I have trouble falling asleep without the TV. It helps me to focus on something else besides the what my I’m overthinking when I’m laying down. I do set a timer for it to turn off after a certain amount of time
I will really try to get more sleep. I will prepare myself for bed at 9pm, instead of pulling myself from a light slumber to get undressed and brush my teeth. That will wake me up and then I won’t fall asleep till 1-2am. I will work on it! Thanks Dr. B.
G'Morning, from Canada, Dr. B. & Thank You, for your channel. I don't always agree with you, but, the more information I have, the better stocked my MS Tool Belt is. Part of being my own advocate has been to read/research/watch information, including drug trials, from other countries. It helps me have a better understanding of how meds work in my body, and means I am able to better express myself with my Team.

Hi Doc, still struggling with the smoking, seem the more I am trying to quit the more I am smoking, and I don't know why. The anxiety is crazy, My sleep is crazy there are nights i don't sleep at all, I'll go three nights in a row without sleep and then usually interrupted sleep, it's crazy. I feel like I'm losing my mind, taking 10 meds, the food challenge, I got down, but still working on the others..any suggestions for sleep? Smoking? Got the patch..love the videos, always watch..have a great day!! Anybody else suggestions..thoughts..am struggling with my disease..bye guys. P.s. i know you didn't mention smoking..but..
Love. These. Tips! Our family already engages in all four most of the time. We could do better at cutting out one and four though. Question: Does cutting out TV include all electronic devices? Should we avoid watching vids on phones and tablets, too? How bout FB and other social media platforms?
Great video Dr. Boster. I'm only 1 hour in front of the tv at night. Set alarm for 8 hours sleep. Hour nap in middle of day. I'll work on stopping the ganja but use very little at night. I agree to stop some meds. I hope you and your family are well.
Will try to get Alan to stop the sugar foods. Really hard to do that he loves cookies after dinner. What about CBD oil, does it effect cognition? Hope things are ok.
I've been doing these 4 things already 😅 but I just can't manage a good sleep. I take melatonin and avoid my phone 3 hours before bed and I have no issues falling asleep, it's the staying asleep part. See my neurologist in a week, hopefully he can solve my problem. I want to know of I am doing something wrong. I am not that tired but nor I am energetic like I used to. You say 7 different pills? Does this includes vitamins? I am taking omega, multivitamins, vitamin D, zinc, selenium and biotin? Is this polipharmacy? Hi Dr B. When i drink a substantial amount of alcohol (especially beer) i wake up during the night very shaky and anxious. Could this be something to do with blood sugar levels or is it just part of having ms and drinking alcohol? The reason i ask is because i dont really get the same way when i drink spirits with a mixer as the mixer contains sugar which makes me think its something to do with sugar levels.
I fall asleep with my laptop on, watching Netflix or Amazon Prime. I also drink 64 oz/day for kidney stones (7 in the past, 2 growing now) and the water inevitably wakes me up in the middle of the night and I can't fall back to sleep. Cathy, here's a thought: try drinking 2/3 of all the water you'll consume in a day during the 1st 1/2 of the day. Then place a hard stop on fluid consumption after dinner. That way you're less likely to be actively making urine when you enter your bed at night. Just an idea! Aaron

When you say Medicine, do you mean what it prescribed? Or do you mean vitamins too?
I have been doing number 1 (sleep) and 4 (no fake foods) for over a year and feel much better. I don't think number 3 applies as I'm only on 2 prescriptions, but I should really ease up on number 3... womp womp
I don't drink now, maybe a glass of bubbly at New years, my diet is excellent and yes sugar is a killer, which I avoid now but I take 14 types medicines and I have done for 18 years now. I don't think I'd cope without them, they don't have a sedative effect anymore, they only did for a few years. I expect my kidneys to pack in before MS kills me. I'm lucky if I manage 4 to 5 hours of sleep 😥
Option 4
I use cannabis medicinally for some of my MS symptoms. In the European market, Sativex is available by prescription. It’s a 1:1 spray that helps augment the drugs for spasticity. A 1:1 vape or tincture in small doses helps reduce my spasticity. A 40:1 CBD tincture controls my tremors. Certain strains used at night control my C-PTSD. Others help with anxiety or depression. I also find certain strains effective for migraines. I do not use it recreational at this time. I do not drink alcohol. That step is covered.
Even though I take a number of scripts, I always monitor the necessity of each and take the minimum effective dose. If the drug has no measurable positive impact, it goes. So, I already practice that.
My diet could use improvement. It’s difficult because my husband is also disabled, and sometimes eating stuff that’s easy to get is the best we can do. But we’re already working on getting better food.
Sleep is problematic and the step I need to improve.
Even with oxybutynin I’m up 3 times a night. And rarely do I have a pain free night either even with gabapentin, it’s a vicious circle of never getting restful sleep.
Extra sleep 🙂
Polypharmacy is the other relevant one to me, but I can’t see any meds I can stop at the moment 🤔
Steps => Sleep more, cut out drugs of any type, cut out many different types of medications, stop eating junk food.
Thanks this helps
I'm glad!
I get 9 to 10 hours of sleep a night do you think that’s too much
