I love the title, because Sims Jr. Said himself he takes pride in being old school. Even when he’s not throwing punches he’s able to disrupt his opponents timing.
I remember him in college. He is strength and speed to handle anybody. He is a great guy to speak with and talk with as well. I hope he climbs into more greatness.
I would add the gap in trainers age, experience and the rise of "conditioning coaches" your trainer NEEDED to be your "conditioning coach, Also the over reliance on MITTS @@francismurage895
I’m glad you uploaded this guy. He has a beautiful boxing style but he’s not as aggressive as he needs and he lets a lot of time go by during the rounds where he’s very inactive, but I will say he has a beautiful boxing style like the fighters in the 1970s, and 60s. He’s just not aggressive enough to be a world champion.
His "lack" of aggression and sticking too much to his idea of "form" and "composure" definitely did prevent him from winning that last fight, he was levels above that guy and he should have battered him. Needs to be able to turn up volume or intensity where needed
Man i haven't clicked a vid so fast in a long time. Been looking for this guy. He got robbed and a fight and I havent seen him anywhere since. Beautiful boxer.
Eddie hearn completely ghosted him and cut his contract after only one loss even though he was only 24 it goes to show how dirty boxing business is all it takes is one loss to get put on a shelf by fans promoters and even TV networks this is the real reason why so many boxers get there undefeated records protected
This was my intro video to your content, I've watched it multiple times, an amazing job, it was also me first look at Sims and he is incredible. Thank you
Great breakdown, made me a fan of Sims. He needs to use his right cross more like Hopkins did. Just throw it with no set up. With his movement and timing he would land it a lot and not just as a counter punch.
Even though I been out of Boxing for 20 years, I’m realizing as a California Native I have seen this firsthand since I started boxing in 1982, Till 1992, I also learned that style, It’s definitely old school, Michigan and, Philly and DC, Used this style, But only few masters it, I know Mr.Sims a Little spoke with him a few times, Great guy 🥊
Enjoy his style its unique in this era . He gets outworked in his losses . Was poor vs chelli his style was ineffective and he doesn't have another gear which is the reason he's not a top level fighter as he's got the skills
I think he can be however you are correct. The reason the Ali style worked is because Ali, Leonard, Holmes didn’t give ground easy they preferred to be on the outside but when they needed to turn it up they did.
@@bigman6781 you're right . I hope you're right as I like him as a boxer . But his loss to chelli was a poor performance..everyone is allowed a bad day in the office

I wonder what happened to him the way he talks the way he boxes really reminds me of Ali don’t know why he doesn’t have a good manager he should’ve been a world champion by now really would like him to win something some good titles
Although i really do like to see this more old school style, he's really missing one key factor. It's the sweet science of bruising, he needs that aggression. All old schoolers had, Louis, Pepp, Robinson, Ali, even Benny Leonard despite being more of a outboxer. Both pros and amateurs, Stevenson and Kindelán had a lot of the old style, yet they were really aggressive when needed. And not so far ago in the pros, Lennox. He had that old school flavour, but boy he produced some really nice KO's too.
@@kiboma4209 that’s cuz he doesn’t have about her gear where he can get aggressive and trade Ina pocket, Leonard, Ali, hearns etc. could. He seems like he prefers to not fight in the pocket for extended amounts of time
I've followed his career the last few years being that he's from Indiana and all. He was doing well but didn't fight with any sense of urgency in his loss to angula ( I think thats his name) it was for a international championship he didn't seem to want to commit to his punches. He has very good footwork though and a helluva a jab.
I would say that Dan Azeez is another boxer who clearly looks up to and tries to emulate a more classical style, he just strikes me as more of a Hagler imitator where Sims Jr shares more with Louis and Moore in my eyes
good to watch but doesn’t throw enough punches he’s lost a couple of fights against average opponents because of the lack of punches he threw, I hope he makes a come back with a few changes to his game because he’s such a talent would be a shame to waste it
this might seem like dent-head ass question, but lest say i really really wanted to study boxing, and make up a style but took pieces from others, would it work? or are the way current styles work its almost as if they have those set punches and how they throw them because its the most affective way to throw it?
What’s crazy is that my boxing style is actually VERY similar to this. I’m not as bouncy or as rhythmic, I’m a little more of a counter-slugger, but a lot of these hallmarks of old-school boxing are absolutely key in the way I fight. My footage actually looks a lot like Ken Norton (except I’m a relatively green amateur 😅)
why the hell didnt you mention his similarity of style with muhammad ali? thats very very obvious lol i was waiting for you to mention ali for the whole ten minutes
Anthony Sims Jr looks fantastic against no-name journeymen, but then got out-classed by Zak Chelli. He was so terrible in that performance. Chelli isn't a world-beater, he's a competent domestic fighter but managed to make Sims look like an amateur. Any one who has laced up and has a few years of experience can do the Ali shuffle, do roll-back, the philly shell or throw a lead left hook like RJJ, but doing them against opposition that isn't paid to lose? That's a whole different league. This video is a good style analysis, but Sims is never going to hold a belt, unless he develops more wrinkles to his game other than cosplaying as other, more skilled fighters.
I love the title, because Sims Jr. Said himself he takes pride in being old school. Even when he’s not throwing punches he’s able to disrupt his opponents timing.

Muhammad Ali’s style is so hard to imitate I’m impressed
He only imitate the footwork that’s it.
It’s Robinson’s style. Muhammad Ali imitated Sugar Ray Robinson. Then Sugar Ray Leonard imitated both of them. Now Sims is doing his thing.
I remember him in college. He is strength and speed to handle anybody. He is a great guy to speak with and talk with as well. I hope he climbs into more greatness.
