I just can't believe he did the entire Crimson II completely by himself, it is such an incredible achievement.
Even today, after listening to this song hundreds and hundreds of times, the initial vocal harmony still floors me EVERYTIME.

Intro solo and outro are so beautiful. The whole album is a masterpiece. However imo crimson is even better, it has more original parts.

You have to agree though, it's quite genius how he has done it. It's like he is concluding an essay or something, how he has used riffs from the other parts and tied them together to finalise the piece.
man the whole crimson and crimson 2 is probally one of the best albums ever created, thr is a part in crimson where its like this but has a pretty mad effect on the clean vocal, its like a delay, thats prob my fav but i do agree its an amazn song !!!
"It is very Opeth sounding" - because Dan Swano was producer in April 1994 when Opeth recorded its debut album - Orchid :) and Mike Akerfeldt sung in Crimson 1 some texts - so they are close... Wikipedia will tell you more.

He did Moontower even more by himself - *every* part of every instrument plus all the writing, and of course the producing (as on Crimson II). No guest musicians or lyric writers (Clive Nolan wrote the lyrics for Crimson II).
I like this band. It is very Opeth sounding, it also kind of sounds like a toned down version of Crematory, the vocals I mean, but awesome none the less.

@Bio69 I've played guitar for about 8 years, and their stuff is very difficult for me. Sure, if you sit around and play nothing but Dragonforce for five years it's gonna seem like a cakewalk. When you first started (if at all) playing Dragonforce songs, you can't say it didn't take you forever to get it down. As far as Brokencyde goes, someone had to write their "beats", someone had to write their lyrics, and someone has to sing those lyrics. They have a very good understanding of music theory.
Crimson 2 is my favourite song/album of all time and yes that includes beating crimson 1 too.

@lionhead0602 i'd say Amorphis is quite similar. Opeth, Bloodbath, Graveworm, Hypocrisy a tad bit and maybe Kalmah are those i can relate to this music.
To people who love this, check out Persefone and their album "Core". It will blow you away nearly as much as this.

I highly recommend you the band Nightingale. It's a classic rock/heavymetal project he formed with his brother Dag. Check out the albums Alive Again and Closing Chronicles, both amazing stuff from Dan (both being all time favorites of mine). If it's too much to listen, just search the songs "Shadowland Serenade" and "Glory Days"!

Almost every band with Christian Alvestam on vocals (there's many of them). Scar Symmetry (before 2008), Solution .45, etc. This guy sings pretty much like Alvestam. Check out Scar Symmetry - "The Illusionist" first.

@darkkevin77 No, it is progressive death metal. The world knows "Swedish" death metal as the Gothenburg sound and the melodic death metal that evolved from it. This is progressive in scope, complexity and the territory it explores musically.

@MasterZealot09 While I agree that Dragonforce sucks as a power metal band, some of Cannibal Corpse's older stuff (original vocalist) wasn't too bad as far as raw death metal. But yeah, they aren't even in the same league as Opeth or EoS by any means. :)

Yes, I have seen them live and met them backstage and at after parties on multiple occasions. They have never disappointed and I in fact respect their right to have fun and drink during concerts. They're a great group talented, fun guys who make awesome music. You haven't seen them live, and nice try with the 'social life' bit.

@MrDimmucof I just have a bit of man crush on Alexi Laiho. and I don't really like Paul Gilbert. I mean I appreciate him as a musician and his music is pretty decent but stuff like that never gets to be one of my favorites now this stuff maybe :D
