First time ever seeing a gurnard cook up and it did not disappoint. What did Sam think of it? Thanks for the lunch time entertainment mate. Keep the banging content coming👍🇨🇦
Hi Jay and Sam! The water looked absolutely delightful. It's been hot and humid here in NY. The dolphins were fun to see. We have had a problem with shark sightings and attacks in the waters off Long Island. Beaches had to be closed in some cases. The gurnard is a beautiful color. I have never seen one. I don't know if they're found here. Take care, guys.
Yeh I don't think I've ever caught Gurnard whilst fishing in America so I don't think they are native too American waters? Although I must admit they make beautiful eating, especially on the BBQ. Florida is my No1 American destination for fishing when on holiday in the U.S. no where else can you catch huge Nurse sharks and Barracuda literally from the back of your holiday home when the yard backs off into the sea. One night I was out all night. Caught 2 nurse sharks and a Huge Barracuda which we put on the BBQ the next day😋
Great video lads well done I have never tried gurnard but will now .. I have a small mackerel cooking tip for ye to try I was shown just the other day and I was amazed well here it is place a few mackerel fillets skin side down on a plate season with plenty of salt and pepper add a knob of butter to each one wrap the plate totally with cling film.. make sure it's totally sealed.. into the microwave for 2 min 10 sec and enjoy.. i couldn't believe how juicy they were .. and no smell in the microwave after
As an ex crabbers, it used to hurt every time I put a decent Gurnard under the bait band , but they were such good lobster bait. Then Rick Steiner said they were his favourite fish and we never got another one from the trawlers who supplied us ! They landed them all unfortunately. When they were fresh I often took them from the boxes the trawlers dropped off from the night before and put a few fillets in the pan for breakfast on the way out to the gear. Happy days
I like the way you cook your fish. I use a white cake flour on my fish . It gives the fish a sweet taste .Mix it with a little milk, heavy cream is better. Keep On Fishing!
Great video jay, many years ago gurnard was only classed as pot bait but now it’s a sort after eating fish, I agree with you it tastes fantastic, keep up the good work mate
Great eating fish, red gurnard. My local fisherman’s cooperative here in Dorset sell them fresh from the boats. Fortunately they’ll fillet them for you.
Hello Jay, Great video! Great to watch you and Sam doing what you do best. You are very entertaining to watch. The mediteranian fish was amazing toi see. Do you think that the change in sea temeratures are bringing new species into our waters? I have watched several video where you have catch Wrasse but never seen a catch and cook. Are they not good eating?I bet the Dolphins made your day! Best wishes from Plymouth, Devon.
Your right Nathan Wrasse don't make particular good eating. Their perfectly edible but I tried it once and wasn't overly impressed. Although Gurnard do make beautiful eating. If you get the chance ask your local fish monger to get some in for you, if you live inland and don't get chance to go sea fishing.😋
Hello from Australia...looks like you's are havin a lot of fun and that's what fishin is all about , but one thing i noticed is, here in Oz we always spike and bleed our fish and into and ice slurry, less stressed fish taste a lot better...love your show...cheers
Hi guys was in guernsey Friday towards the end of our cruise( bet you heard the thing leave) and we had the best weather of the week it was glorious, you live in a beautiful place. Keep the vids coming I love em😁😁👍🏻
I love the colour of your sea, and them Dolphins are Wicked lifestyle too Watching the vids on the TV is best , but can't post them . Keep them vids coming 👌
Like your content very much and am a long term viewer of your content, especially like it when Sam's out with you. You both have good video presence and honest comments
Worked as a chef and one small hotel we did gurnard in a cider, vinegar flour batter,....superb fish, sold out every time,....with home made chips of course!
Enjoyed the show...nice hat Jay! We get Brown gurnards over this side of the pond but they call them Sea Robins. They are good eating if you catch one big enough.
Hi Terry love going to Florida for my fishing holidays. No where else can you catch such a variety of fish. One night fishing off the back yard of my holiday home that backs off into the sea, I caught two big Nurse sharks and a huge Barracuda, which was kept and straight on the BBQ the next day. Hoping too book another fishing trip in 2023 for Florida, just me and the boys this time, so no wife moaning at me spending too much time fishing😂
Cheers mate I didn't realise the Gurnard with blue on were a different type, I've caught two of them one in Devon and the other in East sussex. First one I was scared to pick up as didn't know what it was and didn't trust the blue!! Gutted after putting it back to find out they're good eating.
Hi smash, seen you and Sam on the boat, we were out on, out the blue fishing trips, foraged a small lobster today and scared jenna with a small conga lol
Back in the 1980s I started a little Express Bus Service between Thurso ( my home town) and Inverness 100 miles further south. On one occasion I bought a gurnard and popped in the glove box of my little 19 seat coach. At the end of the 100mile journey home I found it to be perfectly cooked by heat from the demister. Perfect by mistake 😂😂
Brilliant, smash batter looks lovely eh, smash I had a Gurnard, as you say they're as tasty as red mullet my favourite fish now but catch em rarely 😋 got one in freezer. Bouillabaisse is nice with pouting and Gurnard I call em Burnard the Gurnard in Plymouth. Thanks for the feel good video
We have the Sea Robin here in the Northeast States. More of a nuisance fish they are so plentiful. Different versions all around. Ours have big wings for fins. Some call them a poor man’s lobster because of taste and texture.
Red gurnard are a delicacy in France and northern Spain really popular, although I’ve seen them taking and selling fish that haven’t matured, so I bet their stocks are pretty low - no doubt that’s why they want to fish the UK waters, to decimate our stocks too
get yourself a different chopping board and a flexible fillet knife or a longer knife. Cutting on glass hurts my soul as a chef and seeing you use tiny knives and leave so much fish on the skin hurts too. I love your videos but utilising all of your fish to the best of your ability is important. Take this constructively. I do enjoy your videos, all of the way from Australia 🤙
Great video Jay & Sam 🎣👍. Sam was rocking the shorts & wellies 🤣, reminded me of. Compo from, last of the summer wine 🤣😃🤪

Fantastic baked whole guys 😋
smash one of your best videos by far had to watch it twice🙂

Something about you and Sam together makes everything more fun! And funny! Best mates are the best!

Beautiful eating fish even when you do them on the BBQ. Great video guys.

Its called Latchet here in Aus - absolutely delish!
Great video Jay!
Awesome video. I personally like to cook it in the oven with some oil and seasoning as it is and then pick on it. Really juicy and tasty

That gurnard reminds me of the white fish that we’d get in the Great Lakes for our Friday fish fry here in the States..
Class video man really enjoyed it 🎣
Hey Jay ! Greetings from warm sunny Florida ! Where is Smash these days , haven’t seen him in awhile ? Love the foraging vids !!

Hi smash, seen you and Sam on the boat, we were out on, out the blue fishing trips, foraged a small lobster today and scared jenna with a small conga lol
Great video liked and shared
There's grey gurnard as well smash. We catch a few over here in Jersey.
What rods and reels are you using. Looks fun
Hi!! Jay why do you handle the Gunard with a cloth?
love your videos buddy is there any where there i can fish I'm in a wheelchair so its difficult
Cheers Jay i am starving now. lol
We call them Burnards in the isle of man as well
In Norway they Are kalled rød knurr and knurr
Great species hunt bro 👏
I love this fish. Its so firm
That looked delicious!
Good video mate
Red Gurnard are a very underrated fish. I haven't had one for ages but they taste delicious.

Any cod this weather?
If you want to make the batter extra-crunchy, use cement instead of cornflour (ex-wife's cooking techniques). 😃
That made me well hungry 🤤my wee boy caught a gray Gurnard lats year are thay eany good to eat?👏
once you fillet the skin fry it in peanut oil untill crispy salt and pepper fish skins mmmmmmmmmmm
Everyone tell everyone else about SMASH FISHING! This guy is amazing and he deserves to be WAY over a million subscribers! :)
👍
Woo! Hell yeah!
Red Gurnard, in my opinion one of the tastiest fish I ever ate.
Sounds like Gerald on Clarkson's Farm.
Gosh I want to come fishing with you guys.
deepfry the skin...yummy
When are you gonna spearfish again. I love your vids!
Tomorrow smash said … he’s coming in with a 8lb brace of the finest guernsey sea bass
With Sam the Clam
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Surprised you didn't save one of the Wrasse for the frying pan, they have quite chunky, tasty fillets !
Maybe the one with the ruptured swimming bladder, for example.
@@dsmith6785 👍Yeah agree, that would have been the obvious one for sure.
Hell yeah!!!
when I've had Gurnard in the past, it's been roasted on the bone rather than filleted, a method of cooking that seems to do it justice.
Guys, what bait are you using ?
Finally someone ate that fish. 99.99% the fishing channels toss it back.
Hey guys why don't you have a decent Chilly bin full ice would be better that putting them in a bucket
I cam tast that from here smash
How u doing smash
Soak your fillet in very salty water to pull out the blood....
So beautiful
Gurnards the chicken of the sea .
You do know the dolphin are telling you to bugger off and leave their dinner alone don't you?
Why don't you eat the wrasse
Every time I see you cutting on that glass cutting board it makes my skin crawl😖
Why dont you show how you fillet them? Not catch clean and cook, only catch and cook
lol you mean how many species of fish on the title
you did not take one but without the sauce. basically you're talking about the sauce flavour. a real Fisherman enjoyed the proper flavour of a fish
never seen anyone leave that shines edge that separates the flesh from the organs… no thanks
