We went to a pumpkin patch on Saturday. My youngest daughter is turning 24 on the 17th and it has always been a tradition ever since she was little to go to a pumpkin patch and a corn maze. You don’t have to be embarrassed about your situation, it can happen to anyone. I hope you are all doing well. Love you bunches!!🧁🎂🍪🍩🍰🧡

Thanks Karla for giving me some organising motivation! Just recently we had a flour mite problem which had spread to other opened packets. I threw all unsealed foods away as they had spread to the sugar etc then bleached the cupboard, sorted. We’ve had mice too when we lived near a big field, it happens so don’t feel ashamed ever. Glad you are sorted now and I am so glad that you felt that you could share this with us. I wish i had a big larder like yours, our kitchen is small so we have to the most of every available space. Sending love and positive thoughts to you and your family. ❤️🙏

Do not be embarrassed. I am a total clean freak and we have had mice. Granted in my shed, but I hover it regularly and clean it almost as much as I clean the house. We also live out the country on farm. I don't know how you did it thought. Its the one thing I cannot deal with. I think I would have had to move out until I was fully sure they were all gone, if they were in my house. However they were in my attic. But thankfully not in the house. Hate, hate hate them. Probably one of my worst fobias. Fair play to you for sticking it out. I would have nervous breakdown from all the cleaning and disinfecting of everything. I think you deserve a medal and a holiday fir all of that. You need to keep entry places watched closely and keep bate down.

We’ve had mice in our garage, and the best thing to get rid of them was this spray that repels them (I think repel is in the name actually). They sell it at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Just spray them on the outside frame of all doors, including the door from the garage into the home. Make sure to only spray it by the door that leads into the house from the garage, NOT near the big garage door. You want them to run away from the house. It works wonders!

  • @GoingGreenMom
    @GoingGreenMom Рік тому

Just a few thoughts. Mice don't like peppermint, so if you get some peppermint oil in a spray bottle with a bit of water, you can spray with it after cleaning and it helps deter them somewhat, but also, storing things like the big bags of rice you had are not great at keeping mice and bugs out. If you can get a gamma seal lid and a 5 gallon food safe bucket to store longer term storage it helps keep mice out. Even if you leave it in the original bags in the bucket. Also, if you freeze grains and things for 3 days, it will take care of any bugs or eggs that the grains have picked up in the warehouses or left from the field.

Karla, im so sorry about the mice🍎 we went through that one time with having the mice couldn't figure out where they were coming from sure did find that we had a lot of openings though, and we had cats and they were not interested in mice at all. Something to think about Carla with your freezer if you could take one of your containers and mix your Meats so like put hamburger meat and then your pork chop meat and a package or two of your chicken in the freezer in the house and put the rest out in the building freezer it would help give your freezer more air space so that you didn't have to push the back to the wall of your freezer because if you block the vents to your freezer you will cause your refrigerator and freezer to work harder. Your breadcrumbs that are on the door of your freezer can go in your refrigerator way to the back and they will last just as long and be easier to use because they will not have as much moisture in them. Something I do when I have a lot of mixed vegetables and not enough for one meal is I have a plastic jar and I dump them in it and when it's full I make soup or homemade pot pie I have an easy recipe if you're interested something else I do is I do not use the clips for holding things together I take a rubber band instead because I can stand more stuff up on my freezer door.
I used to do Sam's but I quit doing it because having the membership was a little more expensive then we could swing at the time and now it's just the two of us and with his appetite changing constantly I do walmarts and are loca grocery store, I go to Aldi's the most. But when we have weeks of doctor's appointments as we have last week and this week coming up we usually go out for one meal and we don't do much shopping. I do a lot of smoothies cuz I like fruit and it's a easy way for me to eat right with all the food allergies that I deal with. Like I'm still broken out from this last whatever it is, i'll be so glad when it's gone Im surprised I still have skin left after all the itching ive done the last 3 weeks come tomorrow. I'm not sure if I told you already or not but things did not go good for my husband with the doctors on Monday last week. God bless you and your family.🍎☕🤗💕

Katy order sonic plug ins on Amazon for each room in your house.
We have had them in our garage but not the house, we plug two of them in our garage and it keeps away bugs, mice, rats.
My husband keeps our 3 car garage spotless everything off the floor, we actually have everything organized and cars in our garage.
    Rodents are just everywhere.
We have had the best luck with the plug ins to keep they away, it’s slower at first but then they disappear.
I love Rosa, I found your channel when she mentioned it on her channel.
We buy our meats like you from Costco and use the same freezer baggies too. This way it’s less times to the store. I even have anything from Wal Mart delivered, it’s much more convenient.🍗🍿🥞🍳

What a great motivating video Karla! Please don’t be embarrassed about mice getting into your home. Getting a mouse or excessive insects doesn’t always have anything to do with the cleanliness of your home. You are a wonderful homemaker! Change in temperatures, pending cooler weather, construction, farming all can make those little rascals try to get in somewhere new! I had a mouse once and he was always in my laundry room he came up through my dryer vent! I was disgusted, terrified and I could hear his little claws scamper across my metal washer and dryer in the night! I would’ve been so upset just as you at the thought of wasting so much food, but it’s over now and I think they got the hint that they aren’t welcome in your home! You did an amazing job with a tough situation! Thanks for being so open and reminding us all that life isn’t always perfect!! You’re the best! 🍕🥪🥞🧇🍪

Been there and done that because of Construction being done. Get some large containers that are not regular plastic to put everything in that is not in glass or cans, so that they can't get into anything and will leave. Also, don't allow any eating except at the kitchen table or bar in the kitchen. The containers you have with the button on top should be fine. To this day, I keep everything in containers, because we had a couple of moths get in that we didn't see, and they got into the package foods. Nevera gain will I spend that kind of money to replace all the food we lost. I can see everything in the glass containers with lids. I also threw out every rag, sponge and gloves I used.

    🥫🍲🥚
Oh my goodness gracious Karla. I'm so sorry about the rat problem. Yeah, my parents lived in base housing back in early 1977. Dad had to do his tour out in the sub (Navy guy), and mom was in base housing. We weren't thought of yet, but mom had mice (not rats) in her house. This was back in the Charleston, SC navy base housing. She learned how to cook and clean and all the things from her momma, but they had something that annoyingly caused mice to populate. She had to temp move in with my grandma so they could fumigate the whole house. She got back just in time for my dad's shore duty (done with 6 month sea missions on the sub, and allotted 6 months of shore duty) to start, and they were able to move back in. And shortly after, my sister was expecting to arrive.
But yes, we sure watch you clean. Just still annoying to have "pests" in your house when you know you're clean. ❤️❤️❤️😥

Hey Karla, Great video! Sorry about your problem with mice, they are buggers to get rid of!
We are Costco members & we buy all our meats there & other items, except for beef we buy half a cow every Fall/Winter from a farmer & it works best for us that way, we wished the farmer did the same with pork & poultry, but he doesn't, unfortunately.
EVERYTHING is SO RIDICULOUSLY expensive & we usually don't have a budget when it comes to food, we like Quality over Quantity.

If you can figure out how the little beasts are getting in stuff it with steel wool. The won’t pass through it. They can squeeze through the smallest gaps. Mice are normal. Don’t be embarrassed. It is a ton of work but check under your sink, around the dishwasher and near washer dryers. Where we vent is where they come. 🦋

Yes so my husband put some steel wool by the dryer vent. And we we did our best with the dishwasher part. I think I'm going to have him look more into it so nothing gets in. 💗 I appreciate you so much n

Oh my Karla!! I have lived in two different homes where I had a mouse invasion. In one house they never came into the main part of my home but did get into the attic and chewed up some hanging suitcases. In the second home I had to battle them in the house. So upsetting. We did finally get rid of them but oh man. I feel for you. I love your organization. Where did you get the refrigerator drawer bin? 🍎🍎🥭🥭🍍🍍🍌🍌

When the companies use those big tractors to excavate the dirt, all the mice run out of their and find other places to hide and unfortunately they run to the houses because it’s cool and dark under the house and in the walls and chew their way through your cabinets and have a feast! Too bad you can’t go to those people and complain or tell them they need to pay you back for the mouse traps and the smell they created around your community. It happened to my dads house and a few neighbors when new homes were being built right behind my dads backyard fence. Ground was plowed up and tons of mice ran to the nearest safety which is usually a home and they can chew their way into the walls. My dad and his neighbors had to pay out of their own pockets for an exterminator to get rid of the mice.. These development companies who build homes or businesses, don’t realize the problems it causes the neighborhoods and since you live mostly around farms and open spaces, fields, you’re going to see a lot of Mickey Mouse’s cousins, the invited guests. 😉

You're sooooo right about everything!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. They plow less than 30 ish yards away from us so that doesn't not help us at all.

@@karlassweetlife I meant to say the UN-invited guests, because they’ll just come around without knocking but I hope by now all is under control with no more pests. But your video also inspired me to reorganize my pantry and fridge. I live in Bakersfield and my neighborhood is somewhat new but already developed with nice homes, but we’re a growing city and homes keep getting built and people selling their old farms and those neighborhoods are getting the pests now, even though they have fences, those little pests know how to get in, smart little pests. They like people food, even pop tarts! Lol 😉

Karla, I understand the embarrassment and the stress! We have had mice multiple times as we live near a creek. I can relate to how horrible it is. We even had them get into our oven and leave droppings in there (they love to go where it's warm). I got so tired of finding droppings in my oven and on my kitchen counters. It's definitely a process. I have had to thoroughly clean out and sanitize (with heat) the oven multiple times and it's exhausting and depressing. You are not alone (nothing to be embarrassed about). We think we have found their entry points (in our basement) but it's hard to let your guard down. Praying you have solved your problem. Peppermint oil is supposed to deter them as well. We are going to try that. We didn't want to do poison baits as we have fur babies and I don't like poison in my house. Glad to see you returning to some normal. I think that's important

    • @karlassweetlife

It is so hard to let our guard down, like you said. Finding the entry points is the first thing to figure out, so glad y'all have solved that.
We did use peppermint oil with water and sprayed it everywhere we could and could think of.
And yess moving into some normalcy after that is definitely the goal. And pray it never happens again. :/

I live outside of the city and every freaking fall we get mice, it sucks but it happens. What is really embarrassing is roaches, my neighbor has a bad house that the fire department finally told them they needed to fumigate because they had to keep going in for the lady who had health issues, long story short when they did fumigate all of us on the street got roaches. That was awful and embarrassing and the people at that house ended up abandoning the place.

We have been dealing with a mouse for awhile now. First I could hear it chewing on something in one of our dressers. I set a trap under the dresser. Then it seemed to move to my husband’s dresser and nightstand. I think that one finally left. Then the other day my 16 year old freaked out because he saw a mouse in the kids bathroom. So I set another trap in their bathroom. Stuffed a couple of towels at the bottom of the door (so the mouse couldn’t get out of the bathroom). So we have been down to just 1 bathroom now. I check the trap daily and so far nothing. We also have 6 cats. So if it gets out, I’m sure it won’t take long for the cats to catch it.
Our closest CostCo is in Myrtle Beach which is a little over an hour away. But we have a Sam’s and have a membership. But we don’t buy meat to much from there. We want to start buying it in bulk sometime soon though. We are a family of 6. So we go through a lot of meat. We just stock up from Walmart here and there. We have our regular fridge and freezer. Then we have a chest deep freezer and a stand up deep freezer. And we keep those pretty full.
We went to a big pumpkin patch. Did the hay ride and the huge corn maze. They had pony rides, petting zoo, huge jump pillows, rubber duck races, pig races…just a lot of fun stuff. Then of course the younger two will go trick or treating.

There is absolutely no need to be embarrassed about having mice. It happens to everyone. I just keep my eyes opened for their little "hints". I just put down traps and take care of it before they take over. Also keep dry food in plastic containers so they can't have a buffet.
