If you went straight to “Build Mode” from the map, go back to the map, select that lot or household and go into “Play” for that household. If you went to “Build Mode” and you were already playing with that household, just exit out of “Build Mode” and you will be back in “Live Mode” and you can enter the chests from there. Hopefully this helps!

Also if you want to keep the trophy’s and stuff you can move in into a rich sim, destroy their build and then take the funds and do it to the next sim
