Thanks, I really like your videos. I can't believe that at age 69, I'm just now learning to shave. I've been scraping my face for decades with expensive but cheaply built disposables. Being a cheap bastard I would try to push those horrible cartridges for 10 shaves. Watched your video and learned how to use a scuttle bowl for building a nice lather. I now really look forward to my comfortable morning shave. Thanks again.
Another good review geo. Love my Henson AL-13 mild, and I just got the Muehle Companion. Tried the Companion yesterday and I agree, mild but more aggressive than the Henson. I like the new Proraso bottles, more classic looking. Shave on!
the companion was my very first razor. I still like it a lot. But since I got a few more razors it got promoted as a body razor. This is where it really shines, the longer handle, the loop, the rounded and protected edges, the well balanced aggressiveness is what gives your skin an awesome shave on every spot.
Great vids GFB. You're passion for shaving is contagious. So I'm 3 weeks into watching your vids and now 3 new razors purchased... I do believe you've created an addiction. Any recommended non-shave-day routine for skincare and scent?
I've got an AL13 mild and love it. I would recommend trying a different blade than the Astra, though. I've gotten extraordinarily close shaves with Wilkinson Sword by Gillette. Regardless, very easy to use and comfortable. Definitely a fantastic razor.
I started using Astra's with my AL13. The first two were ok but the third was a bit grim. So, I switched to the Wilkinson Sword ones and they've been great.
This is interesting. I've used my AL13 mild for 9 months now, and I've also found the German made Wilkinson sword to be one of the best blades for it (I also liked feathers and med preps). I tested nearly a dozen other blades on this razor and these ones stood out by a lot.
I have the AL13 Medium and the Leaf Twig, I always get much smoother and closer shaves with the Twig. You should try out the twig razors. They’re cheaper than the Hensons too.
Geo, nice to see a green background behind you in the window during the month of January in Chicago!!!!! Or, might you be enjoying some vacation time somewhere else? Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Butch Waxx Rockwall, TX
Bought the Companion for my twelve year old to start shaving under her arms after she went through a pack of Gillette mach 3 three blades quicksnap. Paired it with an Astra sp blade. Hope it will save some money.....
Hi @Geofatboy.. Me from South Africa just thanking you for your helpful content. Yours and other UA-cam wet shaving enthusiasts really have me convinced on transitioning from disposables. I am still researching before pulling the trigger. My choice of DEs is either the Henson AL-13 mild or the Muhle Companion. In my region it's about half the price of the Henson so I'm a bit torn. For way less than a Henson price wise I can get a Muhle Companion, LOTS of Astra Superior Platinum Blades, a very decent synthetic shaving brush, a Proraso Alum stone and a Proraso shaving cream tube. This to me says that the Henson might be overpriced or is it really almost double better than the Muhle Companion? I would really appreciate your opinion. Then, too confuse me even more, someone recommended the Muhle R89 and the reviews are actually positive. Thanks again for all your help.
There is no night and day difference between them as far as shave and durability goes. If it's that much cheaper, then go for it! Save some $ for a brush and some cream!
@@geofatboy Thanks for taking the time to reply. In the meantime I have set my sights on a Muhle R89 Grande as well. So I'm still saving and eventually will decide between the 2 Muhles. I'm so excited! Can't wait to have one in my hand.
@GeoFatBoy A great detailed educational breakdown of wet shaving products is right to the point. I always look forward to your wet shaving videos. Quick question: How's the knurling comparison between each handle?
Geo💈💈 Nice comparison shave using these two razors. I've found that using too light of a razor is just as bad for my face as using one that's too heavy, maybe even more so. I'm heavy handed to start with and the lighter weight razors cause me to exert more force than needed, my bad. Great video as always, thanks. Proraso perfection, good stuff. Enjoy!
Only an amateur can't see that you needed 15 strokes with Henson and 10 with Muhle for every area of your face. That means 33% chance to get more irritation with Hanson. But, people are mesmerized by Henson's design, so they are ready to pay 70$ for this aluminum thing. It is enough only to hear your shaving and to see the difference, how much more blade you have with Muhle. If you go up your face after shaving, we could hear the difference, that Muhle did the better job.
Have you used both the mild and medium? I ask because I’ve used a medium Henson and it was comparable enough to my Merkur 33C although obviously not as aggressive. I can’t remember how they compare in closeness. I
Hello! I simply love ur videos! I've got a question. After watching tons of ur videos, i decided to purchase my first DE razor and which one u recommend as a first DE razor? Maybe merkur 34c?
Hey Geo, for really super soft smooth skin (all day long!!!) after the shave, apply a bit of "Arko Nem" cream on top of your regular balm - it's ridiculously good! Total fluke how I discovered it but it really works! Top man! 👊😎
Hey Geo! I would love to see a comparison shave between the Merkur Futur and the Merkur Progress. How do they compare in agressiveness and beard removal?
Can you review caisson shaving co soaps? I have their code four soap and it smells amazing and nobody else seems to know about this company because they are rather new and im relatively new to this style of shaving and am curious to hear your input on it.
Yes, no doubt. If you watch Geo's videos from a few months ago, he uses the old method where he shakes out the bulk of the water, and definitely ends up with a thicker, creamier lather. I've also verified this in my own trials at home. I think Geo could shave with dirty dish water and a blunt rusty knife and still look a million bucks. He has fantastic skin. I should be so lucky. Anyway, he's a joy to watch. Love your work Georgie.
Geo while shaving with Companion you look much more uncomfortable from your eyes, I recently purchased Companion but it has a very aggressive blade feel and also got nicks while shaving for the first two three times a way more aggressive than it's looks.
Stupid people have to pay full price for another razor, more practical people buy an adjustable razor like Rockwell, Merkur, Parker, and many more. Hensen razor was made for ChatGPT's face, and no self-respecting person wants ChatGPT's face!

Nothing more relaxing then a good shave

The Wilkinson is my favorite blade!
Is the al13 your favorite razor?

Been using Henson for a month with Feather, RK, Wilkinson and Proshave blades and Wilkinson was my least favourite..
I have the AL13 Medium and the Leaf Twig, I always get much smoother and closer shaves with the Twig. You should try out the twig razors. They’re cheaper than the Hensons too.
Just ordered the Medium Henson. Can't wait to compare it to my go to razor the Merkur 37c Slant.
I’m thinking about getting the slant, just looks scary with a blade in it the blade gap. I’m pretty new to wet shaving too
How does it compare with 37C ?

Nice shave to start the weekend
That was a terrific shave Geo! Both razors performed equally as well. What time should I be over for the lather party?😂
Terrific shave Geo! Keep on shaving on
Geo
I'm following you for a long time from Saudi Arabia.
My question is :
Does storing DE blades for a long time affect their sharpness?
If you're talking weeks or months I'd say no. If you're talking 30-50 years, I'd say yes. And-best from the USA!
Bought the Companion for my twelve year old to start shaving under her arms after she went through a pack of Gillette mach 3 three blades quicksnap. Paired it with an Astra sp blade. Hope it will save some money.....
Get her the Henson I got one and man you can’t cut yourself with that thing at least it feels like it
That's one way to make new friends, post a "Later Party" post hahaha.

Very nice comparison video Geo, I don't have tried any of these razors but watched the video right from the beginning till the end 👍👍👍

Would you say the muhle r89 is more aggressive than the henson?
Yes I would.
Can you do a Muhle R41 vs. Merkur 25c please?
good work all time.
this Henson razor is a real deal 💪🏽

Thanks for sharing Ice-I'll give it a try.
jesus! Video should come w a JUMP SCARE WARNING! 🤣🤣
Hmmmm, you got me going back to watch this one again...
I'm thinking about getting the Mühle Companion for my sister, since it can be hung up, but isn't a long-handled razor better for body shaving?
Isn't that what she'll be using it for? bit.ly/CompanionRazorSN
@@geofatboy I didn't think it was very long-handled, I ended up getting her the Merkur 24C.
Nice video Geo. Can you do in futur a comparison with Merkur 34C HD vs Merkur 38C Barberpole, my two favorite razors ? All the best 🙂
Could you do a comparison between straight razors?
Hey Geo! I would love to see a comparison shave between the Merkur Futur and the Merkur Progress. How do they compare in agressiveness and beard removal?
Great video topic-Thank for the rec!
Can you review caisson shaving co soaps? I have their code four soap and it smells amazing and nobody else seems to know about this company because they are rather new and im relatively new to this style of shaving and am curious to hear your input on it.
How are you related to them?
Out of curiosity, have you ever shaved your head before Geo? And if so, have you done so with a DE safety razor?
The closest I've come was down to a #1 on the clipper. I was told I look like a serial killer. Probably started using my middle name...
top video !! thanks
i am having trouble deciding if i should buy the mild or medium henson , is there any type of test i can do to know which razor is best for me
Without both not really. But if your beard is average I’d go with the medium
Cool!
This is not explained in the Henson instructions - that the side goes flat against the skin.
If you shave with it you'll see what I mean. It's intuitive!
Hi Geo, by not squeezing out the excess water from the brush (before swirling for lather), doesn't the lather turn out to be thin but slick no doubt??
Yes, no doubt. If you watch Geo's videos from a few months ago, he uses the old method where he shakes out the bulk of the water, and definitely ends up with a thicker, creamier lather. I've also verified this in my own trials at home.

You're very videos are very interesting and very good on all the information you give about shave Nation enjoy watching you

Interesting-Maybe I'm not used to shaving with a "companion" in the room 😂 Thanks for sharing.
Don’t bother with these, just buy a Rockwell 👍🏼
Pretty weak looking lather this week.

T-2 my favorite even though Arnold is a liberal joke now
