It's absolutely insane what they do nowadays. My friend was making his Met debut in Agrippina and I literally walked out at intermission, went and bought flowers, sat in the library for another 2 hours, then met him backstage and pretended that I'd seen the entire thing. I was finally not sad that I never had a career performing in baroque operas because the staging was so horrible, I said to myself if I'd had to choose, I'd never ever do a "Regie-Theater" production like they do today, and that would mean not having a career, cuz they're all like this nowadays.
