@@slackerman9758 -- He "put his life on the line for his country" by being too gutless to tell Sarah Palin to stop calling Obama a nigger at her rallies. Yeh, THAT John McCain.
I met him once, very briefly, when he went to Nebraska Public Television station do a remote interview with Larry King about adoption. (Which is completely irrelevant to everything else I'm going to say, although everything else I'm going to say is only to justify my saying that I met him once. It's the circle of life.) This was the late 90s and at the time I'd never heard of him. After that, of course I would notice when he was in the news, and although I vote Democrat I did think he would have made a good president. But, as others have said, it's too bad he picked Palin as his running mate. There were many highly-qualified female politicians who'd have made better vice presidents, but unfortunately qualifications take a back seat to electability: except in this case the electability of Palin was seriously miscalculated.
The opening shot is not even from Vancouver, British Colombia but instead of Montreal, Quebec! Hahaha! I'm convinced it was on purpose. Love those subtle jokes 😅
This is in British Columbia, but the police officer was wearing a New York City Police uniform. You could also see the microphone. I love how the imperfections make the skit better.
RIP John McCain. As an Australian we always recognised this man as a fine heroic noble person. He was a great actor too - very brave of him to do this.
Of all the politicians to have hosted SNL, Senator McCain was my favorite. He was self-deprecating, could take a joke and was actually quite good as an actor. He didn’t even break at times when other seasoned actors might. Though I didn’t agree with his politics, I always saw him as a fair-minded, down-to-earth leader who would buck his party when it was the right thing to do. His love for this country and commitment to service was evident. He walked the talk. Before I knew who the 2008 Democratic Presidential nominee or GOP VP nominee were, I seriously considered voting for McCain. He would have been a good President, I think. Had a candidate lesser than Obama run; had he not selected Palin, I think he would have won. I often wonder where the US would be had McCain been POTUS instead of W. Imagine, no Dick Cheney, no Karl Rove, no Rumsfeld. He would have selected two Supreme Court justices, too. I strongly doubt he would have pursued an invasion of Iraq had he been given the true intelligence. There are a lot of things I think he would have called BS on the spot. RIP, Senator McCain. You were one of the good ones, a dying breed for sure. You will be sorely missed.
parrotprodigy productions - Thanks. Appreciate you saying so. You know, I don’t recall Giuliani’s appearance on SNL, but there were some years I was out of the country. If it was not long after 9/11 (which would be my guess), I definitely didn’t see him. Regards. 🌸
Watching this 10 years later and find myself missing John McCain, one of the few Republicans I ever respected. Didn't agree with him on lots of stuff, but he was able to compromise and reach across the aisle. Glad he's not around to see what our Congress has devolved into.

I love how they nailed the stilted acting of the typical Lifetime drama.
Martin Heermance yup.
Stilted is an understatement!!
That and the crappy overdubbed voices.
It also works because John McCain isn’t an actor so having him do something intentionally stilted does help
