G'day from a wet boxing day in Aus, my mam (from county Durham) always crossed the bottom of sprouts - she called it 'kissing them' she said it aided the heat to get up into the thicker part of the sprout so it cooked the sprout at the same rate. My family came to me -regional Victoria, from Melbourne yesterday so a busy day, they've all gone back now so peace and quiet returned. I live on an Aussie 1/4 acre block with a small orchard, biggish veggie plot and chicken run, all put in 25 years ago so living off th land as much as I can. Had to get rid of my bees earlier recently - I don't eat honey wondering now if that'll make a big difference to my summer harvest this year. I enjoyed a lovely serve of strawberries yesterday. Good luck with the move and stay positive Jenny

Sean, only recently been watching your videos, I live in the Rhondda valleys and really hope you will enjoy your walks looking at the beautiful scenery from the forestry mountains down into the Rhondda valleys. You will see a cross on the mountain in Trealaw, there is a documentary on youtube about it. Sean you have a precious gift of making youtube video and I'm sure you are helping people feel so much better when they listen to you. All the best to you and your 2 lovely black cats in your little Welsh Cottage in the Rhondda. God bless

Hi Sean. I think one of the 2 rooms at your new home in Wales would be ideal as a Studio for you in relation to all the work you do for your videos. Also good to have a room to relax in away from all your video equipment. I am sure if you had your video equipment in the living room you would be tempted to do, just a few mins more, which would probably end up a few hours, and you had no time to rest and relax. Wishing you Good Health and Happiness in your new home. 😊

Yes, I too have favorite cups for times of the day. I enjoy a morning coffee in one, then tea during the day in another with the last tea of the day in a separate cup signifying it’s time to sleep. Made me smile when you shared your cup story because I’d never thought of anyone else doing that. So glad that the YT gods brought up your channel of late. I watch a lot of gardening and Irish vloggers so however the algorithm systems work I now can enjoy your lifestyle sharing too. In a often disruptive world, yours is a calming voice. Thank you.

I always put a cross in the sprouts because my Mum and her mum (and probably her Mum too) always put a cross (X) in the sprouts. I thought it might be a Welsh thing when I saw Sean doing it too. I am not sure about taking the bitterness away because sprouts never taste bitter to me, they are delicious. I think I did read somewhere that whether people like the taste of sprouts or think they taste bitter is something to do with your genetics. I just assumed that making the X in the sprouts helped them to cook quicker. Either way, its one of those family traditions.

We don't peel the parsnips. I was cooking for 8 and spent half of the 24th cooking. I do all the dishes in our household, but I do use the dishwasher for the small stuff. Thanks for sharing your day.

Sounds like you had a good Christmas. I was making the meal of the day and letting one video run after the other, so I don't know which one mentioned a garden nursery. It is actually not that hard if you start small. I grew the basic herbs and did surprisingly well, around $100 (CDN) a week for 20 weeks, and that was 20 years ago. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, summer savory, basil, mint, chives and oregano, peppercress. The latter was unfamiliar to just about everyone, but if you let a potential customer pinch off a leaf and try it, they generally buy it too.

cross is supposed to let the stalk part cook as soft as the leaves but its not necessary , i use a steamer pan with spuds in the water and veg above to cook in the steam ,i think roasting is only option for parsnips which is perfection especially if prepared an frozen first can be cooked from frozen, i harvest parsnips peel cut and bag and freeze a years supply far sweeter from the freezer, could never buy roast spuds

I was in one when I was living in a remote village in the Scottish Highlands for a year. I got a decent sofa and chair and an old freezer for free. I don't remember whether you do FB but they usually have these sort of groups if you search "buy swop sell" and the area.

I also don't have my food on a certain place on my plate but I do have to eat my food in a certain order and my most favourite food is left until last. So I'll eat all the peas, all the leeks etc and save the roast potatoes until last. It's weird but it's me lol.

Ack!! I hand wash because the dishwasher does a lousy job, Sean! Not kidding!! I like sparkling glasses and plate ware, and the dishwasher here (a rental) seems to leave a film or residue on certain items. Looks brand new...but I wash better. I'm looking forward to cooking a beautiful cauliflower. I've seen videos where you boil the head upside down in salted water for 10 mins.; dry well; anoint with olive oil and sea salt; roast in the oven until brown. People say it's delish!! I will likely sprinkle with parmesan toward the end. I'm going to make a wonderful cream of mushroom soup a la Rachel Ray...1 1/2 lbs. of various mushrooms + rehydrated porcinis--splash in the marsala. Immersion blend most of the mushrooms towards the end. I'm also going to try a crustless pizza--everything you like except the crust. You see 100s of videos about them on web. Like a casserole with Italian sausage (browned), mushrooms, onions, peppers, pepperoni, cheese of all variety--whatever you like. Freezes well. Looking forward to your videos from Wales. Hope you enjoyed your Christmas!!

    Season's Greetings, Sean!
I've never heard of ULEZ, how interesting. I think it's commendable that England (and London in particular) is being so proactive about pollution. Funny, I did notice on my visit this past summer that the exhaust and diesel smell was less noticeable! Normally, it quite hits me in the face when I emerge from a tube station.
As for the mayor dismissing the fee on Christmas Day, I do hope it's just with the intention of relieving those who may find such fees a stretch on the budget, and understanding that more traveling (to friends and relatives) happens on Christmas Day. It's likely that it's mostly lower-income people who tend to drive the older, more pollution-producing, vehicles.
Of course, I'm speaking as an outsider.
I'm so looking forward to "our" move to Wales!

They like very firm ground. Walk over it, dance on it, stamp it.

I think you could title a book ..."or just don't think at all. .." or maybe I will write it but you may have the title! What do you think of that idea?😊🤔❤️💯

If you have an extra room, you should look into hydroponics. You can grow your own food inside your home. I have two set up in my house and have fresh lettuce and spinach anytime I want.

Hi Sean. When I saw the veg you were preparing I thought that could easily be a pot of cawl. Strangely enough I made a pot today using just the meat from a couple of cheap lamb chops just to add a bit of flavour. Plus a few red lentils to thicken it. Easily enough for three to four meals. Although I’ve had some for tea and there’s only enough left for one more meal!!😳

@@seanjamescameronthanks for the reply Sean. I hope you’re making a video of the cawl making just to educate our heathen brethren and sisters?
64 live alone in quiet Devon village but have plenty of friends about. Got to say watching you moving back has stirred the hiraeth but can’t see me going back now. Too many reasons not to but loving following your journey back and the start of the new chapter. All the best my friend. 👍

Sean, don't wash your chicken like that because the water that comes off is splashing everywhere and covering everywhere in germs. Just pat it dry with some kitchen paper or put it straight into the pan

Don't know how you do it but it always looks as if you live in that big house and garden completely on your own with just the cats for company. You must be a master of illusion. Nobody ever goes in and nobody ever comes out.

Used to watch Vobes when he was The Bald Explorer - walks throughout the countryside. Was nice but not huge viewership. These days his channel has morphed into one of those nutty 'I am a sovereign' citizen type things. Unwatchable for me but now gets four times the subs thst his walking one did. Pays the bills. Good for him. But a sad indictment as to where we are right now.
