My mates told me silky’s are garbage.. “blades are weak and snap”.. They eventually got quiet watching mine cut our firewood the whole trip 😂. Silky’s have hard blades but if you treat them right they’ll last, and replacement blades are only like $30.
Glad to hear someone actually bringing science and the truth to survival and bushcrafting videos. Conserve calories and sweat; not food and water is what I was always taught.
you'll save even more calories & sweat if you use the wooden bucksaw he showed. the folding pruning saws are convenient, but the shape means you have to use more effort and muscles to achieve the same result as you would with the bucksaw, people get tired quicker using folding pruning saws compared to the traditional folding bucksaw, the only advantage a folding pruning saw has is how small they can be (small enough to fit in your pocket for some of them) and how easy it is to set them up, though it is not that much harder to set up a folding bucksaw.
The Silky Gomboy Outback joins my GB Wildlife Hatchet, Mora Companion Heavy Duty and Cold Steel SF Shovel in my medium kit. The Silky Bigboy Outback joins my GB Small Forest Axe, Mora Companion HD and CS SF Shovel in my large kit. My ultralight kit has my Silky F-180 Saw, GB Mini Hatchet, Mora Companion HD and CS SF Shovel. I saw an episode of Survival Russia where he was using a Silky Katana Boy 500 and I couldn't believe how effortlessly and fast he got through wood! Whilst I believe the 500 is too large for my usage, the Bigboy seems about perfect. Reducing effort and minimising calorie burn whilst efficiently cutting firewood, what's not to like. My first outdoor saw was the one fitted to my Victorinox Swiss Champ, and 47 years on, I still carry the Swiss Champ daily, but have grown to appreciate the benefits of a larger saw.
Good question! PocketBoy is very popular beause it can literally fit in your pocket, you are definitely correct that 2-3 inch pieces can be processed with the PocketBoy. Save the BigBoy for the larger processing jobs. Personally, we prefer middle of the road - Silky Gomboy Outback Edtion. It's the perfect size!
We get that question often. I got it from a kid two years ago at the annual Georgia Bushcraft event in the fall (early Nov) each year. I have been trying to reach him since, but I have had no luck, nor did I see him at the event this past year. He was only 17 when I got it from him, along with a custom leather sheath for my Mora Garberg, so he certainly has some talent. Hat Creek Outdoors is his brand, but he hasn't posted anything on IG in well over a year, and his website is down.
The cutting strokes for those folding saws are backward strokes... You can see that the teeth are facing backward unlike the ordinary standard saws...you should only apply pressure on the backward or the pulliing strokes

Well, I love mine. I tell you what though, the handle smelled like I had been sawing with it for 10 years already. lol. 😂. Best saw I’ve ever owned.
I swear by these saws. Super high quality and easy to use!
Where did you get that leather holder
I use the big boy 2000 all the time it is a perfect size saw for me i also have the 500 katanaboy for trail clearing of the bigger stuff.
😂
Is it worth it to have the pocketboy AND bigboy?
Bigboy for larger pieces and pocketboy fir 2-3" things for more precision.

Wow what an awesome holder for the saws
Sometimes you don't have the room or can't afford to carry the extra weight of a monster saw that you don't need that size
Where did you get that leg holster?

But the science says that it’s the exact same amount of work to cut the log.
Just like science would say you use the same amount of gas in the city vs the highway... Same concept. Less stop start, less calories burnt.
muscles have different efficency while working slow or fast.
Love the video
Thank you kind sir! Appreciate you Paul!
A bit off topic here but that's a smart fjallraven shirt!

Most of the population, at least American population really needs to lose as many calories as possible... Let them have the shorter blades
