My summary for this game every time i explain it is "You are war criminal sentenced to stealing beans from drug-abusing demogorgons in an abandoned mental ward."
It seems to me like there's a theme of dormancy. If related to the Chicxulub event, the parasites must have stayed dormant for 66 million years, possibly using the same method that makes the infected "sleep." As for the humans, the company at the site invented those HSUs, meant to keep individuals in an unchanging state for an indefinite amount of time like cryogenic storage.
Super cool, something I'd appreciate is lowering the balance of the background gameplay audio, it can be a little tough to hear you communicating the important info
