I am grateful that there are moments when I am living all alone in the desert. Thanks, Warren. Almost fifty years of your philosophic advice has guided me to many serendipitous places, especially the post office.
Zevon was an absolute legend. Everyone should listen to the gospel of Warren. The most underrated singer/songwriter of his time.
Put this man in the R&R Hall of Fame already for heaven sakes.
I agree but according to a recent interview with David Letterman, the focus groups utilized by the RRHF find Zevon’s music “frightening “ and not “poppy enough”. Holy shit! I thought these are some of the essential elements of Rock n Roll!😢
my friend does this really surprise you
Zevon is far too good for the Rock and Roll Hall of Phonies.
@@georgemartin1498 That tells me what there needs to be a new RRHoF that's actually for R&R.
He's ok with it.
Two of the greatest song writers of our time !
Or two of the most over rated individuals up to you ??
@@allanhughes7859 You are a ass ..........I guess clown school didnt pay off for your folks ..........
You must fun at parties
@allanhughes7859
@allanhughes7859 you must be fun at parties
Zevon is missed, therefore he lives on
When he passed over l cried for days! ....l know that I'm not alone in realising what a fantastic artist we lost
I first heard his music on a British variety show in 2000, when Life'll Kill Ya was released. But I forgot about his music until someone started repeatedly playing Werewolves every time he frequented the pub. THEN I acquired an IPod with Mr Bad Example, Learning To Flinch and The Wind uploaded onto it in 2007. I got into a conversation about him with someone and mentioned that I thought he'd be an interesting character to have a conversation with upon which I was informed he'd died
This hits home. my marriage was failing and I hadn't admitted it to myself, then Warren died and it gave me permission to cry, I was crying for him and the loss and I was crying for me. Since then so many of his lyrics have hit me like a freight train. Especially "Hasten down the Wind" Far away, I still cry when I think of him.
@@smeghead61 He'll always live in our hearts :) Time heals :) I hope You're feeling better now :) It's late but if I could think of a good joke I'd tell ya one ;)
@@mygoddess1 Thanks Donna, Crying is far better than not crying. I am in a good place now and hearing Warren just takes you back to good and bad times of the past. He wrote "she's so many women, he can't find the one who was his friend" That one got me. But now my best relationship is with myself, THE most important relationship you need to invest in. IMHO
@@smeghead61 Thank you :) Take good care of yourself & stay safe these are dangerous times in more ways than 1 :)
Soooo much love and respect here, WOW, and Neil just casually gives the greatest harmonica performance of all time as if it's nothin'. Again, WOW.
In what chord do you think that armonica is?
@@artemioturpaud1116 the song is E minor, so probably that.
This song just gets better and better, as the years roll by, I self-reflect, and ponder its lyrics more and more.
Is there a more respected and admired songwriter/performer of limited commercial success than Warren? His list of renowned collaborators over his career would shock most who only know him from Werewolves Of London.
idk, he was pretty well known back in the day. He really got notoriety when he started going on Letterman.
WOL is not even in my Top 20 FAV WZ tunes...overplayed and it’s probably a good thing most of his catalog never found the Radio...a sign that your only creating music with repetitive hooks and leaving behind great music
@@Oh_I_Will WoL was my fav Warren song when I was 9 in 1983. Today it is Desperados Under the Eaves. Tomorrow it might be The French Inhaler.
Two of North America's (OK Canada and the USA) best songwriters doing a song for the times.
I mean, Canada is in North America my dude, haha no need to correct yourself.
@@cvandy2252 True. I was wary that I may start a debate if I hadn't elaborated/corrected myself.
Such a great musician. Looking through his catalogue you see how many famous musicians were on his albums is a tribe to what a power he was within the music community. A few days after he passed, I saw Springsteen in Toronto. He started the concert to his friend Warren with "My Ride is Here". Acoustic guitar and piano - very moving.
His songs are amazing for hitting the nail on the head. Way underrated as an artist and legend.
So good, and the ending was a kicker
You gotta pay attention, this is splendid genius, feedback included!
Thank you David Letterman for introducing young me to Warren Zevon! Probably the greatest working musician of alllll tiiiiimmmeee ❤
This is music and not what we just hear on the radio
Rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame Please …Really …Come on ! It’s about time !
I love you Warren💔🎶
When two musical gods play,
The theme song for 2020...and proof great songs truly are forever timeless & timely.
It's funny how this song used to seem like it was about someone neurotically asocial, but now it just seems like a good survival strategy.
warren was a genius waaaaay ahead of his time gone to soooon-hope thisthing passes soon so i can get back to pissing you yanks off out there in bar land/airports/and everywere else-KEEP CALM AND ROCK ON!!!!! TOMMY27
Lol!
Chris Meadows: This is our anthem for these troubled times. Personally, I am enjoying my Splendid Isolation.
Introverts get it. Some of us love the cloak of night to be alone and comfortable in our own worlds of self.
Ha! Current situation brought me back to this video
All the years didn't know Neil was helping warren out. Legends!
Shoreline great place for concerts
This song is so present, so like the world is today. Facebooks, Twitters and other things, will leaving us increasingly distant from the real world and we live in inner islands. A sad reality, but that's the world we created every day. Warren nor should be thinking about when he wrote this song, but its actuality shows how much he was ahead of his time.
Since you said that, it is almost like he predicted something like that happening with the internet and kept it to himself
@@someoneelse101 No joke. "Networking"? How the hell did he know?
Gabriel, so true. The increased technology isolating us, not bringing people together. I saw Warren at Noe Valley Ministry SF. Several hundred people. Outstanding.
Greats like George Carlin and the Dali Lama have said similar things. Carlin funnier, Dali Lama, more philosophically and Warren musically.
my favourite song. RIP Zevon
Lovely , guitarwork and Harrrrrrppppp by Neil young! Thanks 🌺🌹👌🌞💥💫
I miss him so much.
RIP Warren. Thank you for all the great music you left us to enjoy!!
This is amazing.
Such passion in the song and so much mutual respect shown for each other by 2 legends of the musical world! Warren being very respectful of allowing Neil enough space and stage presence in the early stages of the song and then to see them toward the end , heads so close together and then Neil's hand on Warrens shoulder (playing the harmonica and still forming chords) and then Warrens smile and Neil's wave of deep respect at the end. This song has always been one of my absolute favourites but this performance brought me to tears. Bless you Warren. I will never ever forget your concert at the Long Gallery in Hobart Tasmania nor will anyone else who was there. So glad i got to introduce my wife to you and your music and that I got to shake your hand and convey to you how your music had profoundly impacted on my life.
Thank you so much for posting. I hadn't seen this b4 and its magic.
Not the only Aussie he had a profound impact on. Beautiful words.
could not have said it better
Wonderful comment on a beautiful performance.
I'm not disagreeing about the mutual respect, but I can almost guarantee that Warren wished Neil had started it a wee bit more uptempo.
;)
I'm SO the same Glen :)
Thanks again so fabulous, great sound great men great voices beautiful
What a pair!
Gawd I miss Warren.
You know you've made it when Neil Young is your backup singer. Zevon was like a magnet for musicians who were often as famous or more so than he was. It seems like everybody wanted to play with him.
Could easily be my theme song if I let it. One of my favs.
...and lead me through the world of self. Repect this intramusicical respect. I have never seen the like. It breaks me to watch this in post-Warren World. What incredible talents. This is what makes my world go 'round.
Good music always has it’s perfectly appropriate music.
Zevon doesn't need the HOF. He was unique. Greatly missed.
this song make me know how to be myself
Warren & Neil Young !! Thanks a lot !!
Warren felt it. Out.
My life in one song
I'd never seen this. Thank you so much.
Nobody coming by without calling
I think he may have been inspired by the the story of Mr. Paul McCartney dropping in on Mr. John Lennon unnanounced.
LENNON: "There was a period when Paul just kept turning up at our door with a guitar. I would let him in, but finally I said to him, 'Please call before you come over. It's not 1956 and turning up at the door isn't the same anymore.' "
GREAT POST THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow.
life is GOOD! alone or not!!! my opinion!
We lost a great one.
I've never gotten the sense that the character in this song was in denial till now. 30 years gone.
Do you see the love here?
Two of my top 3. Just missing Lou!!!. Thanks for the post...
By "Lou", I assume you are referring to Mr. Wild Side ? ... Wayne
A GOD...that's what Warren Zevon IS. I say "IS" because true Gods and Legends NEVER die. He is a God of Music, a God of Words...a God onstage...the only God I'LL ever worship, and there I am content. SPARE ME, all you screaming, hair pulling Christers out there...I'm a hardcore monotheist...for the illiterate among you, it means "believer in one god" , and that God, for ME, anyway, is Mr. Bad Example. All the threats of hellfire and such mean less than nothing to me. Warren is MY God...I figure, like George Carlin praying to Joe Pesci, I stand about the same chance of WARREN answering my prayers as I would going down on my hunkers to Jesus. And Warren's WAY more interesting. Rock the Hereafter, you Renegade, you! I miss you so much!!!!!!!
Splendid coronavirus. Now everybody is doing what I always do
I want to live alone in the desert
I want to be like Georgia O'Keefe
I want to live on the Upper East Side
And never go down in the street

@Nathan. Thanks for the lyrics . You and I know we don’t need a psychoanalyst to discribe these lyrics. In terms of the sound created , I think their voices are too similar , maybe needed a baritone , something like a Jackson Browne . But I know that it is just circumstances at the time. Do love the harmonica of Neil Young and the lyrics of Warren Zevon.
Gosh I bought this cassette the day it came out. His words always twisted and turned in unsuspected ways. Glad to finally meet him in 92, sad not with Neil tho, but hey--I'd rather have met WZ. I know this is a 10yr upload but... to think what his commentary on everything these days would be and what words he would choose to use. Best ever. Except for maybe Lennon. 😉 I think he's be OK with me saying that!
Holy fuck. Love this
Makes me think of Hunter S Thompson ❣️
History did Warren dirty.
Damn that's a good one. And Neil has his Michael Jackson jacket on too. What more could you want from 5 minutes?
oh my
Warren, van Morrison, Dermot Kennedy, Shane MacGowan, Neil ☘️🚬🥂🇮🇪🖤🙏
yet, you two sing together :)
Night Music was the only place you could see Todd Rundgren and Taj Mahal sing the score from H. M. S. Pinafore!!!
Me refusing every invite to hang out:
Neil, the Young, moving like a TSUNAMI wave rolling over Warren..
so fucking beutiful words fucking eat shit trying to describe it. so damn good
Cool people long hair
I, too, wanna live like Georgia O'Keefe.
The big guns have spoken
Now there's an example of male bonding! And a great song.
lol very cool, especially how Neil keeps chording with his left hand at the end, but isn't even strumming anymore lol
@ Kat Harper, you can’t teach appreciation for the sublime to the stupid. They will always be ignorant of the gifts that surround them
Jesus! Can't we build a go back in time and cut 200Hz out of Neil's guitar in the monitors for crying out loud!!!????
And, through all of that monitor nonsense, you'll see how fantastic Warren is through all of it. Warren is a treasure that I am thankful for the small part that I forever hold and will never fill the void for the parts that I will always miss.
The respect Neil must have for Warren. Usally Neil is the boss, lead man, front man no mattet who he is playing with, even if that person is a bettet singer or guitar player, it seems unlikely that you can get a word in fast enough before Neil does what he wants but you can see Warren subtly say some to Neil and then Neil backed of the harmonica and took no offense.
There have not been many times Neil Young played with a "better guitar player." If ever.
Omfg Neil with him!? 😂😭❤️
Ive decided cool people have long hair
You’ve made a wise decision, my friend
Neil Young jacket has a Michael Jackson style haha
Neil Young? I thought he was dead?
Michael Jackson in Disneyland ………… lock the door Goofy take my hand 🤣😆😎
Warren at his sardonic best with great quips.
Enjoy every sandwich.
TOW DINOSAUR BROTHERS GOOD
Notice how they don't shake hands...
They're holding guitars, you dont shake hands...duh!
WTF...85 comments ?
Zevon almost lost it when Young started to sing.
Peter yorn version of this song is excellent, the way the song shouldve been sang, imo😁
The intellectual's Bob Dylan
Neil young; a sound engineer’s nightmare
Poor Michael Jackson
Love them both, but together was not satisfying. You go over there and play your stuff, and I'll stay over here and do mine.
oh dear. Neil is hell out of tone. Totally ruins Warren's performance :(
OMG, Warren is such a pro on the first chorus. Totally saves that part to match Neil's out of tune harmony and keeping it sounding OK.
yeah! so what?
What do you mean by so what? He ruins Warren's performance. That's it. Not enough?
pecne neil sing's like neil sing's Warren knew this when he asked him on the album and to come on stage. Her harmonica made the the song, warren isn't the best vocalist either. Love both artists but nobody ruined anything, you can tell they both felt the song and were loving it up there with eachother.. i don't see how neil can ruin Warren's performance at any given point in time do to the fact that neil had been around longer and was way more successful.. RIP Warren though, can't wait to see you in the rock and roll hall of fame
What a stupid comment.
Neil "libtart" Youngs guitar skills are weak at best .
