Always used blue striped Golf Pride or Orange/Grey plastic tees until this week. Somehow I used a pink tee for the first time ever. What a difference it made to my game. For the first time I was hammering the ball down the fairway. I’ll be taking the others out my bag and replacing them with pinks. It was such a pleasant surprise.
Great stuff Andy.........normal height for most drives..........downwind I use 4" tees and get as high as I can!...........Thanks for all you do for us!
Well done Andy. It was nice to see this quantified. I have always heard that you tee up the driver with half the ball above the face but this is the first time I have seen it demonstrated as to why. Thanks
This video came to mind yesterday a few holes into the round, on the elevated tees with a bit of wind my drives were ballooning and so i tried the lower white tee and it worked a treat. kept the ball lower with no real loss of distance, in fact i had the opportunity on a few holes to try 2 drives 1 with each tee (white and pink) and saw very little difference between the drives. not something i would have even considered before so thanks for another great vid.
I mainly use wooden graduated tee pegs and tee it up around the height of the Pink plastic tee. The problem with using the plastic set height tees is that if the grass on the tee box is a little high the Pink tee then "looks" way too low. But my pet HATE is golfers who tie two tees together with a piece of string so that they don`t loose the tee! They are usually the same golfers who suddenly have to leave the club house when it`s their round!!!!!!!!!!! Tight B-------`s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Assuming neutral atmospheric and terrain conditions, my understanding is that the club head's CG position relative to it's neutral axis, in combination with delivered dynamic loft (angle of attack + loft where the ball is struck on the club face, which varies based on roll and bulge in order to generate gear effect), should be coordinated with tee height to optimize the combined launch angle and spin outputs for the accompanying swing/ball speed. As in, long drive contestants are typically inclined to employ higher tees which permit them to hit up on the ball as much as possible; but they also loft down to prevent excessive spin ... i.e., a higher tee typically calls for a lower-lofted driver, and vice versa
I use all 3 White into wind pink neutral or no wind and orange down wind the work great for me. I’m inconsistent with the straight tees so I use these. Great explanation Andy keep it up.
Can’t believe you’ve done this Andy, I was only searching this very question last week looking for this answer. Bought some of the orange tees and just got back from the range and course and the results for me have been ASTONISHING! Took about 40 balls to get used to the newer height as I’ve used pink tees with my G400 SFT set to 9.5, but the orange are now staying in the bag as I’ve literally just put 20-30 yards to my drives on the course. In fact I’ve never hit it so far!
I use both, the pink and orange, depending on ground condition and height of grass. When the ground is dry and firm and grass is cut short the pink is giving the best height, but when the ground is soft and wet and grass is not cut short then the orange gives you the best (1/2 ball) height. Since these fly away and you always need to search for them after you hit the ball, I have put both on a 4" string connected to each other. The one I use to tee the ball up is basically stringed to the other resting beside on the floor and holding it back from flying of the tee box.
A very good & interesting Test. I use the White/Blue wooden tees and vary the height due to conditions and how my swing is behaving on the day. Usually the height is somewhere between pink & orange.
I really enjoyed this test. I tee the ball based on the desired direction and ball flight. All things being equal I attempt to always tee the ball with the equator level with the top of my driver.
I use the pink ones mostly. Was playing the other day and due to the hot weather we've had, some of the ground on the tee boxes was really hard. On one particular tee I couldn't push the pink tee peg all of the way in and left it standing a few mm higher than it's supposed to. The resulting drive was possibly the best I've hit all year! Will have to try that again 🙂
Depends on the wind, I'll tee low for a lower flight but I'd say orange for distance. Ok, so after the video, totally agree, mid height tee work best for me as well, better rollout and control.
Hi Andy . I used the pink one for about 3 years woth my cobra amp cell. And it was fine. Then I swapped to the ping G driver and struggled with it until I changed to the orange one . I suppose it is worth experimenting with a few different tees until you find one that your comfortable with?
Going for pink. Had been using orange previously, coach suggested pink based on strike location and a few other things, so that's what's I've stuck with.
I use the martini tee with the driver and have about 1/3 of ball over top of club. Also been trying the zero friction tees and finding them to be just as good for me so far and cheaper. :) Martini tees don't bust easy(3 in last 3 years), big cup so easier to tee up. Zero friction seem to be just that. I don't feel any tee when I hit with them. I don't like the martini tee for iron/fairway wood tee shots - just my preference - so the zero friction ones or the "four more yards" iron/fairway tees are what I use when teeing off with those clubs. Still use wood occasionally but not very often any more. I tried the type of tee you are using in this video but found that I didn't like 'feeling' the tee when I used them and also seem to break them every time I used them, which became expensive and cost versus regulated height of tee wasn't something that gave a plus to that type of tee for me. Both the martini tee and the zero friction tee do not seem to 'damage' or hurt the club. The zero tee with it's 3 small prongs holds the ball well AND gives almost 0% chance of tee coming in contact with the club head. At least for me.
I experienced the same , I used a white tee until my driving too went doolally. I xwitched to a pink and then an orange and straight and long again. ! No direction but straight and long , ish
An interesting experiment but unfortunately it doesn't include essential information for optimising flight and distance. I have been doing this experiment myself just recently on Trackman to find my optimum tee height. It is important to include the driver loft, dynamic loft and face strike position as these change the results and conclusions. The pink tees may be optimum for you but may not be for everyone.
Without driver loft numbers tee height numbers are skewed, your going to do better with the tee height that corresponds with your ball placement in your stance and the driver loft your using , if you use a 9 deg driver and tee more forward you're not going to want to tee it low.
I absolutely use a different tee height for different situations. I used to tee the ball very low, lower than your white tee here, and my angle of attack was always down to the ball. Not a lot of roll but I felt like I could control it like a 3W. I then went really high and that was just too nerve racking, expecting the big sky mark on my beautiful driver head. The biggest improvement for me was going to something similar to the orange tee here but I now add about 10deg of spine angle towards my right foot at address. I'm hitting my driver further than I ever have, but I am unable to maintain the control I had at lower tees. I hate this game...
Interesting test. Shame didnt include club head speed in the stats as lower swing speeds may tend towards orange tee to get some decent launch conditions
You could have looked at the packets to get the correct length on each of the tees, instead of guessing them all wrong ! Good experiment though. Cheers
Still use wooden tees. I adjust height depending on what I am trying to hit. If I want to keep it lower into the wind I tee it lower. I'm not real keen on a high teed ball.
Very much so. For me the higher tee allows me to hit just above centre on my driver face, thus lowering the spin and raising the launch angle, but I assume that my Callaway XR Sub Zero has a slightly deeper face than your G400 Max. Any data on face strikes Andy? I assume that you were worried about skying it from the orange tee you actually hit it lower on the face than the other 2 tees. Or I could be talking rubbish :)
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer - great Vlog Andy - British Cycling applied ‘marginal gains’ to their approach and I like the detail and variety of your subject matter - I use standard tees, no preset height type but I will experiment with the height to see what works best for me. Two comps at the weekend and sadly up a point to 13.3 (next Saturday a major!)

Pink for me Andy, used to use the orange but found I was "skying" too many drives. Most people I play golf with tend to use pink also.

I use Pink... I used to use Orange/grey depending on brand. But found it got the ball high but too high if that makes sense.
it does make sense John and same as I found
Andy , on this video I suggest to use foot powder ou tape to show where on the club you hitted the ball depending on the tee height used.
I use both, the pink and orange, depending on ground condition and height of grass. Pink tees for me used to play white wooden ones fond pink gives a constant height for me good video as always

Tried them all and orange castle tee performed the best for me once you get used to the height.
Only just started to use the pink castle tee's love them won't change to anything else now.
Depends on the wind, I'll tee low for a lower flight but I'd say orange for distance. Ok, so after the video, totally agree, mid height tee work best for me as well, better rollout and control.
Have been using orange but might try with pink this weekend now. Good video Andy
The key is attack angle. I was recently told by PGA pro that tour average is 2-3 degrees up. So whatever delivers that for you is probably the best.
pink or higher makes me sky too often, white gives a lower flight with cut that works well on windy days.
Interesting I haven’t seen this test done before nice one Andy 👍😮
I've decided to use white as kept skying with the pink one and the occasional slice

Good choice James!
Funny you have a review on this. I started researching this today. I think the highest one might be the key. The orange one maybe.
Angle of attack +5 or so, more spin and more dynamic loft of course. 2” but 3 is better.
I use long wooden tees and set it as I need it... can't be bothered looking through my bag looking for the right coloured graduated tee 😁
I use the martini tee with the driver and have about 1/3 of ball over top of club. Really interesting stuff Ken, will try some of these
I don’t like castle tees. Just use wooden tees but do like to tee it up high. If I’m going for a more controlled shot I’ll tee it bit down a bit.
I use both the white and pink tees. Feel more confident with a lower tee
Hi Andy I use a pink castle tee but how far do you have your driver behind the ball when teeing up?
I played the pink tee all summer but as my driving went pear shaped recently in Dec I switched to Orange and we are back on song...? Hmmmm
I experienced the same , I used a white tee until my driving too went doolally. I xwitched to a pink and then an orange and straight and long again. ! No direction but straight and long , ish
Good setting your maxed out clearly with this driver would be interesting to test your old epic driver against these results 👍
hello there sir liking your stuff im trying to compare my distances with yours how far do you hit a 7 iron cheers shane
Good vid pal, cheers 👍🏻 Around pink height for me also 🏌🏿♂️💄😀
Same for me but nice too see it measured
What brand of tee's are they. Where can you buy them from
I definitely think you will get optimum performance with Pink.....maybe
What is the height for the pink tee?
An interesting experiment but unfortunately it doesn't include essential information for optimising flight and distance. I always use the pink one, works well for me
and me
Did your shape of shot change?
White tee for me I just make better contact and don't like hitting ball too high also I don't tend to lose much distance into the wind
I use a 2 3/4 in castle tee...or step tee.
I use the pink, seems to work!
The orange tee will give you the longest carry but depending how dry and hard the landing area, the pink tee might give the longest run.
called that spot on
I like to tee it half a ball above the tee, any higher than that I would sky the ball.
the taller the better.
but I would like to know what loft is best combined with tee height?
I usually use the one that is half a ball above my driver at the moment that is Pink.
I would agree with that
What tee do you use with driver? Have you tried experimenting with different tee heights?
I absolutely use a different tee height for different situations. I used to tee the ball very low, lower than your white tee here, and my angle of attack was always down to the ball. Not a lot of roll but I felt like I could control it like a 3W. I then went really high and that was just too nerve racking, expecting the big sky mark on my beautiful driver head. white less distance... more fw's
pink avarage of the two... my choice
orange most distance less fw's... thats what i found anyhow lol..
I think pink. It's the one I use anyway.
Interesting test. Shame didnt include club head speed in the stats as lower swing speeds may tend towards orange tee to get some decent launch conditions
Went from a 14 handicap to an 8!!! #tagers its happening!
14 to 8 in a few weeks ????
Adrian Adams yes sir
You could have looked at the packets to get the correct length on each of the tees, instead of guessing them all wrong ! Good experiment though. Cheers
Link to tees?
I may need to use these type of Tee's and learn to put ball in the same position as well HA'
Nice! Simple test. I always hit better with a high tee, low loft driver. Mind games!🤣👍
confidence is key!
White tee for me, may sacrifice distance but control is much better, never tried an orange tee, scares the 💩 out of me
Pink tees for me ⛳️😎
I hover the driver so my tee height is 1 complete ball above the head of the club 🤷♂️
Pink
Still use wooden tees. I adjust height depending on what I am trying to hit. If I want to keep it lower into the wind I tee it lower. I'm not real keen on a high teed ball.
I would think I do the same Fred
1.5 inch tee pink
I’m thinking 🤔 the pink.
Haven't watched the video yet, so I think orange for the win.....
surprised?
Very much so. For me the higher tee allows me to hit just above centre on my driver face, thus lowering the spin and raising the launch angle, but I assume that my Callaway XR Sub Zero has a slightly deeper face than your G400 Max. Orange
Pink.
I like to tee up low 😂👏🎉
right answer
Yes, just above the feat..
Pink . . . .
good answer Brian

Thats a very good point Brian, back to form for the Major!
2 inch works better for my swing
Pink Castle
good answer
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer dropped my handicap as well yesterday from 16 to 15.1
nice one Philip I will change the board
Video paused. I’d say pink tee but I’ll see after I watch the rest of the video.
Its got to be pink
