Bumped into Rou in a pub in St Albans a few years back, honestly the most down to earth guy you could meet, i have shikari lyrics tatted on my arm and he was so thankful to me for that and shook my hand, I couldn’t believe the artist was thankful to ME for something HE wrote, stood with us for a good 15/20 minutes talking, top bloke!
January of 2018 when they were playing in NYC my friends and i found a bar across the street from the venue. It was blistering cold so we wanted to just get inside in the warmth before the doors opened to the venue. We sat at the bar. Got some drinks. Ordered some food. And my friends girlfriend got up to go to the bathroom and she was like OMG THATS THEM! ENTER SHIKARI IS RIGHT THERE! Rob, chris, rory, and most of the crew were at a couple of tables finishing up their food. We didnt even realize they were there cause they were kinda behind us and the bar is right as you walk in. We debated on if we should ask for a picture but we felt like assholes if we interrupted their meals. So we didnt ask but then rou walks in and my friend gets his attention as he walks by and we talk to him for a minute or 2. After that he walks over to their table and theyre all getting ready to leave. I get up to go to the bathroom before we leave and theyre about to walk out and rob says to me "nice shirt" because i was wearing the TTTS shirt i got the year before when they played in nyc also for the 10 year anniversary tour of TTTS. He shook my hand and they went on their way. Thats a moment i will never forget. The absolute most random timing to catch your favorite band in a bar before a show in like 2 hours. I honestly wish i could have gotten a picture with them or just been able to ask them questions and talk to them cause theyre all so genuine and nice. Ill also never forget the first time i saw them live for the vans warped tour in my state in 2014. The same friend i was with in nyc and another friend of mine were covering their songs when we had a band together. I have guitar and bass covers on my channel. At their merch tent rory and rou were there and we talked to them for 15 minutes and learned a lot about them and who wrote what and what was used to make certain synths. It was amazing. And i got a picture with rou. So far since that first time in 2014 i have seen them every year when they come to the US. 5 years in a row. 4 years in NYC. Saw them this year for their quick stop the clocks US tour. Couldnt make it to the brooklyn show that was filmed. But i was at the other Brooklyn show. Im in the picture from that show with rory being being held up by the crowd. It was my girlfriend's first time seeing them live and she likes then so much more now because she sees the passion and energy they have for their shows. And she loves the meanings behind the songs and how theyre written. She has Stop The Clocks stuck in her head all the time now. lol. Im never going to miss a show when they come! I dont care if im in a coma. Better wake me the fuck up so i can make the damn show! Lol. Love these guys so much!
It's one of my pet peeves. I've been guilty of it once or twice - when I'm being rushed to get the interview done as fast as possible, but when you know you have time with someone, you should ALWAYS let them say their piece. Thank you for the kind words!
Keep on that hope. Frickin panic attacks and insomnia, that has to be even worse for a guy that does all that you do, I hate it too! Come back to LA Enter Shikari!
Half the music you listen to probably has some sort of political message in it that you're unaware of. I get not wanting to hear a 10 minute political rant in the middle of a set or something like that, but saying politics have no place in music doesn't make any sense.

Saw them 7 times and second time in Houston I went up to him and he was super nice and wanted to take a picture with me
I can listen to Rou talk all day I swear
Its always so nice to see an interview where the person asking the questions actually lets the person talk, and doesn't always interrupt. Nice work :)

Best Interviewer ever. Disarming and attentive, Asking relevant questions and letting the person talk. Top class dude well done.
I've been waiting years for Acid Nation to make a comeback too. The waiting game continues! Nice interview man, well done! :)
Dude, you are so good at having a conversation. Great interview
You're a great interviewer! Love Rou
Damn, crazy to see that you got to sit down with Rou. Great interview!
Honestly one of the nicest chaps in music
I LOVE interviewers who let the person talk freely and let them think, you always get the best answers doing that.
Well done!
such a brilliant artist and person, need more people like him in the industry,
Such a good interview. Thanks for that!
Glad you liked it! Always lovely talking to Shikari. Did you check out the older Shikari interviews on my channel?
Excellent interview. Rou's art and music statement is something people have really forgotten, ESPECIALLY in music created by newcomers.
Really good interview, very well done
smashing interview mate
Thanks!
Great interview, probably one of the best with Rou
Everyone else seems to feel this too but this was a great interview. You're a really good interviewer
Such an amazing interview really like your casual style. Saw them at Manchester last week and they blew my mind!
This was fantastic. Thanks so much!
Refreshing outlook on things so it is
Thanks! Great interview!
Really enjoyed this Ash. Good work!
Love the shoutout to Esquires in Bedford, hahaha!
I love Rou
Really enjoyed watching this!
Glad you liked it!
This is sensational. Some real nuggets of joy and wisdom in there.
Great interview! Gutted you're missing out on UK stadium tours :(
Me too! I desperately want to hear the quadraphonic sound that they've worked so hard on!
Never have I related to something so much as Rou’s dancing. I dance similarly like the majority of the time lol.
Great interview great real questions not like “how did you get the name”
I’d love one with dan from the wonder years they’re touring in April 2018
This is awesome stuff :)
9:19 :)
I feel you, Rou. Roaccutane is a HELL of a medicine.
Coincidentally watching this with a roaccutane nosebleed...I can relate. Involuntary sobriety isn't all that fun.
Emily have you had the black spots in front of your eyes/sudden blindness? That's just a barrel of fun.
is that idles in the background?
Keep on that hope. Frickin panic attacks and insomnia, that has to be even worse for a guy that does all that you do, I hate it too! Come back to LA Enter Shikari!
Rou is like the new Gandhi..such an inspiration
St Albans doesn't have a village hall, because it's a city ;)
Adam Protz we had the city hall that got turned into a coffee shop and is now the museum 😂
He mentions Corbyn in the UK and political hope.... Fuck. :-((((( 2020 sucks!!! The UK is broken.
“Hmm I’m interviewing Rou today, maybe I should shave and dress presentably…..nah fuck it”
Big Shakari fan but when they talk politics it's fingers in the ear and "la la la "
Politics has no place in music or sport .
End of
